  1. I think its probably unlikely any large events will go ahead prior to June 21st (although who knows), but looks like Simply Japanese at Beaulieu (July 25th) and Go Japan! (Sep 26th) should get enough interest.

I will check with organizers whether we would be allowed to have club stands. Assuming yes I will put both events provisionally in the club calendar.

  2. Now, with a number of Covid cases going down and vaccination up my be its time to think (or dream) of when we can have again our club and social events and meets again. I think 1st half of the year is probably a non-starter, but according to the government 4-step plan we should be back to near normal from June 21st.

    So, here are some suggestions:

Tunerfest South (Brands Hatch) - Sunday, June 20th

Tunerfest Show – South – The Ultimate Performance Car Event

(I know I said June is probably too early, but Tunerfest was always one of my favorite events (and the 1st ever I attended with the club 4yrs ago) - would love to do it again this year as 2020 was cancelled)

Simply Japanese at Beaulieu - Sunday, July 25th

Simply Japanese Rally | 25 July 2021 | Beaulieu, National Motor Museum

Good event for entire family, can be combined with New Forest weekend. I am usually away around this time, but if I stay in the UK due to travel restrictions would be keen to do it.

Go Japan! (Brands Hatch) - Sunday, September 26th

Go Japan! – Japanese Automotive & Cultural Celebration

I think it was probably the only "official" event in 2020 where we had a club stand. Even with social distancing it can be great fun.

Autumn Action Day (Castle Combe) - Saturday, October 8th

    Castle Combe Race Circuit (castlecombecircuit.co.uk)

Halloween Action Day (Castle Combe) - Saturday, October 30th

    Castle Combe Race Circuit (castlecombecircuit.co.uk)

Castle Combe action days are not that popular with the club, but we have done them few years ago and also joined couple times Weekend Racers club.

If you keen to attend any (or suggest any other events) let me know. If we have enough interest I will organize a club stand (and muffins for Tunerfest or Go Japan! are on me for all attendees on club stand :) ).

... and subject to restrictions being lifted I hope we'll do couple social meets and drives 2nd half of 2021!

Look forward to seeing you guys in the coming months.

  3. I prefer my GT86 being serviced by a specialist rather than any Toyota dealership. Tuning Developments for example is nearly 50% cheaper than what you've been quoted by Toyota (although there is risk you'll end up buying few other bits if you visit Mike ).

Tbh, my car has not been serviced by Toyota dealership once in nearly 4yrs of ownership (and I get it serviced every 6mth as I have turbo kit and regularly track it).

As long as genuine service parts are used the warranty should not be affected (I had few minor bits fixed and battery replaced under warranty).

  4. Hey Mani, welcome onboard.

Dont think order matters that much, whatever your preferences are. If anything I would say:
    - suspension before or at the same time as wheels (will give you wider choice if you go with coilovers).
    - wheels and tyres before FI (its hilarious how fast you can loose traction with a bit more power).

In W London you are pretty close to a number of circuits. Both Bedford and Silverstone will be just over an hour away, Donington probably 1.5 ish. Don't worry taking stock car on track, its perfectly fine and will give you better idea what mods you would want to do. I did several track days on stock car before my 1st mods (suspension, wheels, front brakes and TD NA tune).

We have a "club" track day at Bedford on Jan 30th (provided it can still go ahead) which imo is a perfect option for 1st track day (even in wet), then Silverstone on Feb 19th (also good for novices despite being fast circuit) and I will also organise group booking for Donington on March 20th.

    Hopefully will see you around!
    Enjoy!

  5. Check disks if you feel judder. I had a slight lip on my, giving judder only when braking at speed over 80 mph (Paddock Hill at Brands was very challenging due to vibration).

My experience with pads so far (Ksports BBK fronts, stock rear)
    - ECB Yellowstuff were absolutely fine, good combination for daily and occasional track day. Not too much dust, no noise. Dont last though, particularly after going FI.
    - DS2500 front, ECB Yellowstuff rear - ok, but much better with ECB Bluestuff rear. Good life (fronts after 5 track days were just over 1/2 worn, rears lasted over 2 yrs, probably 15+ track days would have lasted couple more). Lots more dust, occasional sqeel but not too bad.

I have tried ECB Bluestuff on front and rear, but fronts crumbled on edges and I got a lip on the disk, hence had to change them.

After putting BBK on rear as well (DS2500 front and rear) brakes still feel weird with ABS engaging way too early (better in track mode, but Bedford was not to try it out tbf). Need another track day to get used to them.

Cheers for the update @VAD17 and co

As @maurice said restrictions don't start until Monday officially so this show should be going ahead as normal, unfortunately it might be the last event for a while :(

Did anyone get a club pass in their email? Can't see anything in my inbox yet but will check my work email as I can't remember which one my MSV account goes to.

You should be able to use either Tunerfest or Go Japan! ticket (you may need to log in to print it out though), but the ticket did not come with the email.

One of the links in the e-mail is the Car Club pass (you fill details yourself)

you would need both. They would scan the tickets when you arrive and and will direct you to our area

  7. As @maurice said you should have received details today. Its unfortunately an early start for red zone.

Arrival time 7:00-7:30 am and please print your club vehicle passes

    ENTRY & ARRIVAL

When approaching either from the north or south on the A20, please look out for the car club direction signs. You will be directed to the northern access gate. Please have your vehicle pass displayed in the windscreen and your ticket ready. Once in the show are, please head straight to your club stand. Event officials will help direct you. Please look out for them as they are there to help you.

A sign displaying your club's name will be positioned in your area and the edges will be clearly marked on the ground. Please make sure all your exhibits fit within the boundaries. Additional space has been provided this year to help with social distancing.

We are club #5 with space for 9 cars (I think 10 should fit as there should be a bit extra space). Roughly where we were last 3 years, but 2nd row of clubs rather than 1st.

    See you Sunday!

  8. I didn't get much info back from Simon when I enquired he just said to keep an eye out for further correspondence. Anyone heard anything?
Just if I need to print anything like stand passes I need to do it before I leave work on Friday
I have not heard anything either, guess they are digesting yesterday's Government announcement.

Tickets for either Tunerfest or GoJapan should be valid, but we should also get a club stand pass and instructions via email.

I was actually planning to send chaser to Simon today, but guess he will be having quite a few people chasing and considering you have done so already I will wait for further correspondence

  9. So Sad, RIP Smudge.
    We will truly miss him
His cheeky responses and comments were not always to everyone's liking but he was helpful and friendly on PMs to some of us newbies.
My condolences to his loved ones, family and friends.
We should arrange flowers from the club I think.

  10. My are Gramlight, but then I compensate extra weight with a bit extra power from TD Turbo

Nov 9th with Circuitdays is fully booked I think, but you can get on wait list and they probably will have few last minute spaces.

I am also doing Thruxton on Sep 22nd

And hopefully we will have a nice group of GT86s for Bedford GT on Nov 21st

@VAD17 I ordered my tickets the other day which was a seperate process to registering for the club stand is this right?

Just wondering how this works on the day so they know who to send where. Or will we get emailed passes to print nearer the time.

Can't remember the scenario last time 🤔

Yes, club stand registration is separate. I dont think you have booked club stand (at least you were not on the list Simon sent me), so I suggest you e-mail them and ask for a space on the club stand (let me know if you want e-mail address, can PM to you).

There are 7 of us booked.

Details should follow end of this week (if not will chase again).

  12. Hey Max

    Welcome onboard!

I would say your best bet is to look for 2nd hand car and budget for new wheels and NA tuning package (decat manifold + remap).

Depending on manifold and wheels that would be £2k +.

Abbey (http://www.abbeymotorsport.co.uk) is closest specialist garage/ tuner for you (have used them several times myself, highly recommended).

Alternative is to look after club members selling modified N/A or boosted car and get it before they put it back to stock (which is pretty common). If you after boosted GT86 that would be best and most cost effective way, and many cars would have coilovers and other worthwhile upgrades.

    Good luck!

  13. Hope you all have received e-mail from MSV (or look in your spam folder) about cancelled Tunertfest South on June 14th.

For those who have booked tickets and club stand, tickets are valid for Go Japan! at Brands Hatch on September 13th.

You can either (a) join us on September 13th (we will have a club stand) or (b) get credit valid until the end of 2021

(use the following link https://covid19.msv.com/Covid19/BrandsHatch/Tunerfest before August 14th). For those who have tickets for both, get a credit and hopefully you can use it next year.

I will confirm club stand details and logistics closer to the date (MSV offices still closed).

Hope to see you there😎 (will have muffins 😉)
