Hello from Arizona

Just picked up my new 86, and I have a dumb question.  I don't remember ever seeing a car where the engine bay was not painted either black or body color.  On mine, it's white, and looks like the car was painted orange (supernova) with the bonnet closed.  Even the underside of the bonnet is white, not orange.  Are other people's cars like this?

Thanks!

Welcome, Alan. The UK has a special edition called the 'Clubsport' that looks to be the same colour as yours. The colour here is called 'solar orange'. I don't know whether or not this special edition is available in the US, but this is odd, as I wasn't aware they were painting white cars orange!

I've never seen this before either. If the UK special edition was like this, I am sure that Richard at RRG Macc' would have commented if it was white under the bonnet. All other GT86's have the same colour of the car under the bonnet albeit with the paint looking dull, no clear coat I suppose.

Have you lifted the cover in the boot (trunk to you) to see if it's orange or white there?

Thanks, Lauren for the welcome.

In the U.S.,  it's called either the "Special Edition" or the "860" (instead of "86").  It's available in the orange that I have or what Toyota USA calls "Halo", which is either white or off-white.  It almost looks as if this was originally a "halo" car that was re-sprayed orange.  You can actually see the paint spray pattern fade from one color to the other under the bonnet.

I haven't lifted the carpet in the boot yet, but I did stick my head in and look up inside underneath the rear window.  It is painted orange, but the paint is very thin, so that areas of white show through.

Well all the cars are painted in a similarish body colour because it's the base coat for the colour, it could just be that white is the base coat for this orange. They don't paint the inside of the cars with a top coat.
