Kodename47 446 Report post Posted December 21, 2015 Shame it's not a direct swap....
Keethos 842 Report post Posted December 22, 2015 Why's that knightryder? What would need to be done to get this bad boy in?
Tareim 343 Report post Posted December 22, 2015 been awhile since I seen the thread on ft86 about it but I think it was the turbo location which stopped it from fitting
Mike@TD.co.uk 467 Report post Posted December 22, 2015 Cheaper to boost the FA20 already fitted? For most, the bolt on kits available provide enough of a power increase to satisfy needs?
Tareim 343 Report post Posted December 22, 2015 the main advantage of the FA20 DIT Mike is that the compression has been lowered to about 10.6 so less chance of detonation I think
Nicebiscuit 655 Report post Posted December 22, 2015 Mind you, if it's only the turbo location, presumably that bit could be modified... I'd always wondered about the compression - with what little I know about such things - the Saab Turbos always ran lower compression than the n/a cars. You couldn't simply bolt the turbo gubbins on... How do the kits get around that - clever mapping?

Indeed, mapping is accommodated in mind of it being a high compression engine with air being forced in. So long as its done carefully, it is reliable. We've tried to break ours..... Kodename47 446 Report post Posted December 22, 2015 I believe the gearbox mounting is different too, so custom work required. Plus the bonus of having to get a custom manifold for the turbo and extra bits that needs too for the turbo. The DIT also hasn't got much headroom as the injectors aren't a simple swap. Remember that DI does help with FI and having a high CR actually helps turbo spool.
smudge 1020 Report post Posted December 23, 2015 That's like saying this is a nice upgrade http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LS3-stroker-tuned-Chevrolet-V8-engine-600bhp-LS1-LS2-LS6-LS7-also-available-/111853340843?hash=item1a0afa88ab:g:IhAAAOSw3xJVac~u Yes, it is. But it's not a simple swap 1 KevinA reacted to this
Nicebiscuit 655 Report post Posted December 23, 2015 The Chevy engine is nice, but lacks ambition. How about one of these? 1 smudge reacted to this
