  1. The problem isnt as simple as at X BHP a rod will go. I got speaking to Mike at TD, he was explaining it was more about peak cylinder pressure. This is something that Supercharging has an advantage over turbo as it increases in a linear fashion where a turbo nowadays can push to max boost early on in the rev range. As the car revs up the peak cylinder pressure naturally drops off. The rods are also sintered which produces an irregular output hence why it is a lottery.

    Disks and pads.

Hi All. I have been looking around on the forums trying to get my head around brake pad and disk recommendations. I have the standard Calipers and don't have the funding to change these out at the moment. I just finished up my first trackday and the front disks are toast, not checked the rears, but the fronts are exhibiting a mild shudder on the brake peddle which can also be felt through the wheel. I am looking at the EBC Yellow Stuff or DS2500 pads. But I have absolutely no idea on disks, will they make much difference, are there any that work better with one or the other of the pads I'm favouring? I dont drive the car daily, its mainly for long motorway travel to and from friends and family or (now) trackdays. I found plenty of advice on pads, but not much on disks, cheers for any advice.

    Disks and pads.

Hence why I said think hard about a BBK, and why it's the upgrade I'll take after the DBA disks finally wear down. One problem with a BBK is very few of them fit under stock wheels so you need to factor that cost in as well. Luke, cant remember if your still on the stock wheels?

    Disks and pads.

I would say entirely stock breaks aren't up to decent track sessions. Mine didn't inspire confidence, with judder through the pedal and fade after about 15 mins. The dba disks and yellow stuff pads haven't found their limits on a 15 minute session. And at that point the engine oil needs to cool off anyway. A bbk would certainly do the job, as well or better but I would do an oil cooler at the same time to allow longer sessions.

Think hard about a bbk up front. Certainly the dba is great, confident feel vs stock. I think when my current disks are out I'll get a bbk though. Seems to be a sensible option for long term cost as well.
  6. Aye, we got the Shetland, the R33 got the Shire.
  7. Enough did, you. They fixed it, the website. They offered to compensate the owner, you. If you refuse a product that's your right, but if the car was written off in your care, that's insurance, not Toyota. Good luck with the ombudsman, it might come though. 😊

    Badger's BRZ

Could you post a link to this fella? Looks great, and a great addition for track usage, although I hope you never have to use it.

Mind telling me what the symptoms of the wheel bearing was Lauren and N_spr?

The good news is, if it's the spring recall issue, you just got a new engine for free. 😊

    Unsure What To Do?

If your a 62 plate don't bother with the plugs. Get them to do them when you get the recall done. Then you only pay for the plugs, not the huge time cost.

    El vs UEL drone question

I have the el but still have the stock sound generator. Can't say I noticed much difference on track between mine and uel on track, doubt the drone would be much different if it isn't there on wide open throttle.
  13. Hi All. Just had the dreaded check engine light appear. Plugged my ODB reader in and got the following codes -P0390 - Powertrain - Camshaft Position Sensor "B" Circuit (Historic Fault) -P0391 - Powertrain - Camshaft Positon Sensor "B" circuit Range/Performance (Bank 2) The car is a 62 plate, so one of the originals that were impacted by the lumpy idle that was fixed with an ECU reflash. It is also covered under the current recall for Valve Springs. Now, I don't know if the car was ever reflashed as I am not the first owner (its been in my care for ~6 months), but its outside the 5 years that would usually cover this as warranty work. Looking at the ft86 forums, it seems that the 2 codes I have could be thrown as part of the re-flash problems, the idle on the car would bounce a bit, but I always put that down to the AC cycling. So, oh gurus of the internet, what do you think my best course of action would be? Drive to the nearest Toyota garage and ask them to look to see if the reflash was performed, get the springs done later. Book in to the nearest Toyota garage. Get the springs done and ask them to look at the reflash. Dont drive it anywhere, tow it to Toyota, get the CEL looked at, but mention the potential for the reflash to fix it. Other (please specify) Note, I dont need the car as a daily driver, however I do have a trackday coming up on dec 10th... so I need it before then! Also, if anyone has had these codes in the past, could you let me know how you handled it when it happened? Cheers.
  14. Sorry I missed this originally. Once I cleared it its been fine, it went to a track day in early December and certainly wasn't driven lightly.

    Nexens on Gt86

Are the fronts still the original set, if so how much wear do they have. New rears mean it was definitely driven spiritedly.

    Where Did You Buy?

Toyota dealership over in Yeovil. Which was just over 100 miles away for me. If I was less picky on mileage I could have got one closer, but I'm near London.

    OE Front Pads and Discs

Depending on the quote you get for OE it might be worth looking at an OE replacement like. https://www.part-box.com/d972-ebc-oe-replacement-standard-front-brake-discs-toyota-gt86-subaru-brz

Is the DB administered by the host or by an 86 member? Only asking because I work with them, might be able to help if it's administered by one of us.

    Problem With Heat Wrap

Mike shared what mike says He was posting about it as I walked in the door, top bloke. I think the basic consensus was it doesn't make any sense to be that close now, its a fixed system at either end, it shouldnt be possible to move that much.

Flat battery - locked out - BROKE key

Unnecessary would be electric seats and a waffle iron. Dash cams and phone charging are pretty much mandatory now.
