Denbies Vineyard Dorking Sunday 26th July 11:30

For the uninitiated, what's the form for this? If I can get away, I'd like to come along (mainly so I can be nosey at MartinT's car!).

    MartinT's BRZ

    Thanks, that's good to know.

    MartinT's BRZ

Quick question Martin: what clutch are you running?
  4. The Perrin steering rack lockdown kit looks like a cost effective way to eliminate unwanted movement in the rack: Product page at Amber Performance But it's only for left hand drive cars. Has anyone encountered an equivalent product compatible with RHD cars? I figured I'd ask before going to route of changing the bushes.

    Perrin steering lockdown kit equivalent?

That looks like it's solving a slightly different (closely related) issue... probably a more important one, at that! Added to the shopping list! Thanks.

GT86 BRZ Tuning Package from Tuning Developments

Thanks, that's great. So, it looks like it is slightly in the way of changing the accessory belt, but not badly so...

GT86 BRZ Tuning Package from Tuning Developments

Could someone post a photo of this kit from the top - i.e. from the engine bay? I'm interested to see the top part of the manifold routing. Cheers!

    Rear Parcel Shelf removal.

Aby chance you could post a picture (or point me at one) that shows the view through the rear-view mirror with the Intec fitted? I'd like to ditch the intrusive stock high level brake light, but I'm less keen on just moving the intrusion from the bottom to the top of the screen.

Sold Perrin Shifter Knob Large Black

Still available? If so, I'll take it off your hands. Chris

    Short shifters

I'm using the TRD (US) short shifter kit. Unlike the one from Japan, this isn't a complete new lever, it's just an extension that fits to the bottom of the stock lever. This one: GENUINE SCION FRS FACTORY TRD QUICK SHIFTER ASSEMBLY I absolutely love it. Chris

    Aftermarket Steering wheels

Does a TRD steering wheel count as "after market"? Chris

    VSC Sport mode

Perhaps you could find some other members local to you, and get together for a comparison. I've had a couple of "hmm, not sure about that" moments with the TC etc, so at some point I'll be trying to get a comparison with other cars.

Anyone up for an epic adventure? 9th-13th April

John O'Groats looks a bit barren from the accommodation point of view......

Anyone up for an epic adventure? 9th-13th April

It's something I've been contemplating since I read about the NC500 on PistonHeads, so definitely would be interested (as if my '86 weren't already racking up miles at an alarming rate!!). But it would depend on dates and work and other commitments.... Chris
  15. Well, after a slight spilt milk episode in the boot of my '86, I wondering about something less milk-permeable. There are several different ones on e-bay, but it's hard to tell what the fit is like. So....... Has anyone got one? Does it fit well? Which one? Cheers, Chris

    Rubber boot liner mats

The front runner for me right now is from Australia: Boot Liner But it would be hard to return it, so I figured I'd solicit opinions on here before taking a punt.

Edelbrock SC kit Fa20 powered by Eaton 1320 TVS

Yes, back on topic: I'm interested in the relative merits of the positioning of the throttle: the Edelbrock (and Harrop, IIRC) with the feed running forward beside the blower putting the throttle body near the stock position, versus the Cosworth and Sprintex that put the throttle near the back of the blower...... Is it just a packaging/aesthetic choice, or is there more to it?

Edelbrock SC kit Fa20 powered by Eaton 1320 TVS

Interesting... I could swear I saw a US supplier showing the air filter and thermostat coming with the Stage 2.0 - but now I can't find that. Maybe it was their (now corrected) mistake, or maybe my mistake.

Edelbrock SC kit Fa20 powered by Eaton 1320 TVS

My understanding of the Cosworth offerings is: Stage 1.0: air filter, thermostat and custom ECU calibration Stage 1.1: 1.0 + cat-back exhaust Stage 1.2: 1.1 + exhaust mid pipe Stage 1.3: 1.2 + exhaust manifold Stage 2.0: 1.0 + Supercharger, inlet manifold, chargecooler Stage 2.1: 2.0 + + cat-back exhaust Stage 2.2: 2.1 + exhaust mid pipe Stage 2.3: 2.2 + exhaust manifold That's always been my reading of the Cosworth catalogue, which is supported by the catalogue saying that the Stage 2.0 is: "...supplied with Cosworth engineered ECU calibrations for both the stock exhaust and the Cosworth free-flowing sports exhaust system".

    AutoExpress Cosworth GT86 Review.

I really don't think the Cosworth SC price is that bad, at least, the price than Fensport quote (4.8k ukp). Five years ago I was looking 3.6k ukp for a much simpler, non-intercooled Eaton MP62 blower based kit for a Mk1 MX-5 (without engine management as I already had an aftermarket ECU). So, the fact that the Cosworth kit includes a fairly complex manifold, chargecooler, an engine management solution and a more expensive blower (Eaton TVS) makes the price, to me at least, seem fair. The Stage 1.x components do seem very expensive, though - I'd really like to see the Stage 1.3 coming in at well under 3k ukp. Chris

    Any device to Monitor Knock?

Is the knock sensor reading available via OBD2?

    Cosworth GT86 article on Pistonheads

As my '86 is my only car, and sort of daily driver, I'd pay the extra for the Cosworth blower because of the amount of development and testing in it (although I do have huge respect for Sprintex, ever since reading about their E30 BMW kits in the much missed Cars and Car Conversions!). Although, I suspect that the amount of development cost in, and subsequent pricing of, (at least) the Stage 1 components reflect the original hope of being approved by Toyota/Subaru (and thus not voiding warranties). I'm guessing that hope is a bit forlorn now (he said with 4.8 years still to run on his warranty!).

    Lee's HKS v2 Supercharged 86

That's why I'd only consider using that temp range of oil from someone like RedLine or Miller. I used to run an MX-5, to which I'd fitted an oil pressure gauge. I'd had to use Mobil 1 10w40 as that was the best I could get locally. On cold start at idle, the pressure gauge was pegged on the top stop, whilst when hot, after a spirited drive, again at idle, it would barely register off the bottom top. I then changed the oil to Amsoil 10w40 (so the same temperature range) and with that, the cold oil pressure lowered by about 15psi, and the hot oil pressure rose by about 25psi (again, both at idle). Frankly, I thought that was outrageous for the same spec of oil. (Should have said: by choice, I'd still use Amsoil, but it's become rather a pain to get hold of in the UK now).

    Lee's HKS v2 Supercharged 86

Both Miller's and RedLine do 10w60 oil, RedLine also do a 5w50. I'm not convinced of the need for going colder than 10 in most of the UK. And I do rate RedLine quite highly.
