Standard Touch & Go maps

Recommended Posts

Pretty much mate. I think the web site recently changed which has made life hard work. I posted on the Toyota blog in the end in the comments section for a post on touch n go. They responded really quick to my questions.

I don't use the connect drive stuff and the sat nav update seems to involve putting a USB drive in to download an identifier for your car and then upload that to a website to then download the sat nav update for £££ :-/ or you register using some digit on your log book

Just to update this, we bought the car new with Touch & Go +.

I knew I'd read it somewhere that if you have plus, you get 6 map updates over 3 years for free, via the dealer.

I looked into this on Friday as my dealer said it was chargeable.

The My Toyota Portal confirms the car had T & G + and Nathan at Toyota confirmed what is on their FAQs (q7) is correct.

Spoke to the dealer who said this isn't the case but they'd do the update for free as goodwill.

I've given them all the details & they said they'd look into it.

I don't want to get shafted & I don't want the dealer to take the hit either.

Will keep you posted.

I didn't think the 86 was available with T&G+?, other cars that have that (Prius, Auris etc) do get some free updates as stated in the link you posted but T&G doesn't.

The new car configurator on the Toyota Website still says T&G only for 86 so if it is available they aren't advertising it

But the owners page for mine states T&G where yours says T&G+ so who knows...

I paid for a map update on mine as they were about 4 years old (18 months older than the car) the update was worth it. If you bought a brand new car though even with the T&G (non +) system the dealer could update them for free before they had 100 miles on the clock I think, so if it wasn't done as part of PDI you could make a case for having it updated for free in any case.

Ours has standard toyota Touch (I) headunit that can be optionally extended with Go or Go+ modules. Both can be chosen/purchased at dealers. Imho though both are not worth to get (but then again in my eyes other car makers stock navi options are inferior too to specialised navigation products like tomtom or navigation apps we have on smartphones) and way too overpriced. Clunky UI, overpriced unit itself and overpriced/outdated map updates, i see nothing good that can be said in support of stock navigation. IIRC Touch II should have at least screen mirroring from smarthpones option, but ours is version I.

It's being updated tomorrow.

The service lady said the new parts have arrived (see below).

This could be the memory stick I guess?

Not got to the bottom of having six updates for free but tomorrow is FOC regardless:)

Squadrone Ross: Hmm, if your's is T&G+, not T&G, shouldn't you have free map updates? I wonder for what it's charged in that bill?

IIRC one had to: ready fat32 formatted usb stick (at least 4G size), make usb footprint from navi to it, install toyota's T&G toolbox, create user & login on my.toyota.eu, enter there your car VIN / navi serial number, check what's available from maps (for standard T&G one needs to purchase. Don't know how it really is with plus version).

Meanwhile with toolbox running insert usb stick with footprint, agree to download some updates on it, login in with my.toyota.eu created login, in Downloads or Updates(?) d/l map update, wait till it copies it to usb stick. It might be lengthy process, especially map updates (was 40min for me). Imho worth do it at same time with some longer trip, to not burn fuel for nothing during update process.

If one fsck-up FW upgrade process, from this page listed 1.7.4 firmwares (high for plus version (link), low for standard (link)) can help unbrick. They can be used to update (read - unbrick) any T&G without any purchase/footprint issues (probably because they are listed as minimum version to work with T&G toolbox), and it's fast (as they don't include navi maps, firmware only. 78M vs ~ 2.5-3G).

I also found a way to to install newest firmware even if one doesn't have 'purchased' very latest maps (when i generated in toolbox usb stick with firmware and maps i had, i put in newer firmware version's swdl.iso & it's checksum file instead or original), but imho it's not worth the hassle. Failed to successfully update maps to newer that i haven't purchased though, even if i found where to download latest maps, i still need to get it through toolbox, that setups them on usb also checksums & licences for maps update to not fail at the end with update content consistency check. After fail needed to unbrick and after that reflash back with whatever latest was listed as purchased/available.

I still think that stock navi is overpriced crap that is far inferior to normal navigation systems and totally not worth the cost. I got it used for cheap from ebay, but imho those 100GBP would be better spent on some aftermarket HU. My condolences to anybody paying full sticker price for Go/Go plus.

Well. Dealer updated the maps today as a goodwill gesture but the jury's out on whether or not I get a further 5 updates for free as per Toyota's insistent.

FYI, these are the versions in question.

I have to say I like the system, as does my wife. It's slick & easy to use, the JBL sound is very good (if a little too bassy) and the HF calling is superb.

We miss voice dialling & steering wheel controls though :(

Well done. You've done rather better than I did.

Copy & paste from back then:

My car was due for delivery on 1 September, it was delivered to Toyota World Bristol South on the Wednesday prior. I emailed them to request a few things were checked including the maps as it was becoming an issue on several forums. I didn't receive a reply but that's not unusual for them. They rarely return phone calls either.
When I collected the car the maps were still dated March 2011, amongst several other issues. I was told they'd not had a chance to check it out but would get back to me. I should have rejected the car there and then, but I accepted their assurance (as I was like a kid with a new toy).
As I'd not heard from them I called them a week later and was told they still hadn't heard from Toyota and would chase it up. Several emails, calls and weeks later still nothing. The dealer 'Principle' got involved and assured me it would be resolved ASAP. It was booked in to have the updates though they said it may take a couple of days, but I could borrow the principle's GT86 auto in the meantime. I accepted this and agreed to drop my car off and pick up the loaner at 0800 the next day. The principle didn't turn up until 0820 so by the time I left I was late for work. As I'd not heard anything by 1500 I called to find out how they'd got on and they said they'd had a problem. As the car had done more than 1,000 miles it had exceeded some arbitrary limit built into the system to allow a FOC update - it was now chargeable. When I finished laughing I was told they'd have to get a authority and codes from Toyota to perform the update and would get back to me. Again.
More time passed and I was told they'd got approval but it couldn't be done for another ten days or so.
When I'd established they weren't joking, just taking the piss, I told them where to stick it and I'd take it up with Toyota Customer Relations. This is now nearly four weeks after delivery.
I was told their response time is 2-3 days. I was disappointed with that - once someone has found it necessary to escalate to CR I'd expect them to take it seriously, but no, not Toyota. To be fair, that's probably a standard, scripted reply and I was called back within a few hours.
I was given a case number and told to book the car in with any Toyota dealer to get the update FOC using the case number as a reference. The other dealer in Bristol, Toyota World Bristol North (another Sytner dealer) didn't know anything about it and would get back to me, once I'd given them the case number, telephone number and name of the CR contact. A few days later they called back to say they'd not done it before and it may take a couple of days. In addition, they didn't have the 'equipment necessary' so I'd have to wait for that to arrive. When they contacted me again they said it would be another week or so. I couldn't believe what a farce this was becoming so again spoke to CR and another dealer Platinum Bath.
They weren't familiar with the issue either, but sounded a little more knowledgable and helpful.
Nearly seven weeks on, finally booked it on Monday for the update to be done today. Got there at 0800 - it was done by 0840. All parties happy (at last) and rather less than two days.
Well done and thank you to Mark at Toyota Platinum, Bath.

Wait a sec. FW version is L(ow)? Then you have T&G, not T&G+. Later should have firmware ending with H(igh). And as except first (IIRC there were extra details to this, as in milleage driven should be small enough or something like this) all the other updates are at price. And for such update price on bill seems cheap enough.

Yeah, like I said before, I'm pretty certain you can't get T&G+ on an 86, but the OP's 'MyToyota' page states they have it, hardware seems to confirm otherwise

And i'm certain that i could get it for my 86, just like for other Toyota vehicles like Rav4/Avensis/Corolla and rest having Touch as stock HU .. When i asked my dealership they listed both options, but if full price of even just T&G seemed insane to me, T&G+ seemed way worse price wise. IIRC partnumbers are: PZ490-00331-00 T&G, PZ490-00332-00 T&G Plus kit (last 00 may change depending on how new it is and what maps are already in, eg. A0 or D0). 100GBP is as high as i can go for such. 200 already too much, and real prices .. to pay 3 times as much as for smartphones or aftermarket Hu-s with better navi options/better multimedia playback seems wrong. That money is better spent on performance/suspension upgrades imho :)
