smudge 1020 Report post Posted July 8, 2015 Just seen this in the main headlines for the 2015 budget: "New car tax bands with a standard charge of £140 - and new cars will not need MOTs for the first four years, rather than three" My car isn't due for it's 1st MOT until February 2016. Does that now mean I don't need it until February 2017 or is it only brand new cars as of today?
rob275 1817 Report post Posted July 8, 2015 I would assume new cars, as in unregistered ones.

Mike 458 Report post Posted July 8, 2015 I thought this was going to be you budgeting for mods for the rest of the year! Anyway, neither the express or BBC make it clear, but I would have thought it would be cars registered after a certain date, presumably when the VED change takes place? Lauren 2259 Report post Posted July 9, 2015 It's brand new cars from 2017 that are affected. You will still need an MOT next year just as I will.

Nicebiscuit 655 Report post Posted July 9, 2015 It's quite a lot now for the first year... I didn't really notice as it was all rolled into the purchase price, but I was quite surprised when I saw the breakdown...
Mike 458 Report post Posted July 9, 2015 Was going to say, first year tax is included, think the first year was £300 or so? Either way, it'd drop to £140 which is pretty low...
Foulsmell 120 Report post Posted July 9, 2015 If like a lot of people have the car from new on 3 years options then the cost spread out would be £313 per year. Not cheap.
