Cross Forum Crap

Recommended Posts

I would have liked to discuss the fate of GT86OC too but it seems that was never on the agenda for Stu who was obviously acting in the interests of himself.

Ps. First post. Hello!

Hello. :)

Don't forget it's Dan who owns the forum. He's sold it to this company that runs many forums. In effect given that Dan ran the forum for an income generated from advertising and trader revenues. So, that he's sold it to a company that runs forums professionally should mean there is in effect no change in that respect.

However, profit generated will be less likely to go on providing subsidies for events and all that stuff for members. I should remain fair here as I understand that the GT86OC have dipped into their pockets to join up with us and halve the costs for BHP this coming Bank Holiday Monday.

So, essentially as Dan owns the forum (or did!) he did not have any requirement to discuss this with the members, that was always the nature of the setup for the GT86OC. You are entitled to think that this is not in the interest of the members should you so wish is entirely up to you of course.

I think given that the information that the GT86OC had changed owners was publicly available that for anyone that has not signed the NDA, they can say what they like in all honesty.

I also think that there is absolutely no harm in discussing this. Removing posts and censoring what people talk about providing it is within the rules and not abusive should be allowed I think.

My apologies i did mean Dan i get confused because both their names have 3 letters (i'm a simple chap lol).

And yea like you say there was no requirement to discuss but now i feel like I and all the other members have essentially just been farmed for targeted advertising etc with no benefit to the club other than Dan lining his pockets. I fully appreciate that adverts go hand in hand with stuff like this but i'm not cool with the members who have done so much and contributed time just for one man to profit. Not cool yo!

In the words of my fellow countryman "It's for that reason, i'm out".

Well, the decision has to be yours.

What I would say is that we may well have some advertising to generate revenue too, but any income we receive is non-profit, so the monies go on running the forum and susidising events for the members. The idea is that this club is run by the members for the members. :)

Just wondering is it just me and Fatrab who have the same name on both sites? should we change names on one site, I could be Ivorlittleun and Wejockpoopongmcplop could be Rab, what d'you think ?

And me. I am Pitman everywhere (except Pistonheads, where I joined before I became Pitman :) )

I did have the same name on both sites and would happily have posted as me on there if they hadn't banned me.  :P

Rob please don't close any threads on here, if people want a place to discuss stuff, it's not right for anyone else to decide what can or can't be discussed, if the title is clear if people don't want to read it they don't have to

If a post in a thread is threatening/abusive then it should be deleted but please avoid the thought police mentality on here

Steve, don't take it personally, I just like trying to stimulate open discussions and hate little secrets being kept only to those in the know, I put a lot of work into Dan's Forum (2744 posts? numerous pics reports and vids) and was a bit miffed at being lobbed off for daring to have an opinion that differed from Dan's. He's now done what we all expected and realised the asset that we all helped create.

I have said many times that I don't mind him making money from it, I make mine from stuff I do on computers as well, its just it would have been better to just admit he didn't want to make it into a club but was just offering a free forum for people to use

But hey, its caused us to have to set up this site where we are working to a different agenda and we are happy for members of Dan's forum to be on both and come to our events as well

This is my own personal opinion and not that of any organisation, I just like to say what I think

Alec

Steve, I don't think you realise how betrayed and bitter some of still feel from being banned for no reason from a forum where we've spent so much time and effort in. Some of use have reacted in different ways because of this, Alec seems to enjoy posting random things on the OC forum where as I don't even bother looking on the OC forum at all anymore (not even bothered signing up as a different persona and lying about who I am to people).

But I agree, Alec probably shouldn't have posted up a silly post like that but he's free to express his feelings how he likes and as he said, he felt that others should know.

We're free to discuss whatever we like, weather it involves us or not, but in this case there's plenty that involves us. Especially our partnership for the up and coming BHP event, nevermind our fellow friends who still post on your site.

I don't know who or what this big company is like but it's a bit naive to believe that nothing will change with new ownership, they may leave you guys to it but they could easily turn the forum inside out and change it to their own purposes. So it should be something that everyone should be aware of and be able to discuss.

Depriving Fensport & Abbey of customers! How dare you!

Ever heard of subliminal advertising?  Look at my sig  :D .

Don't worry, I think I do more than my share of advertising for Fensport.

I have no objection to sponsor adverts, it is the ads by google that truly pee me off.  I don't know what revenue they bring in, but I would far rather pay to belong to a forum, than to have to be subjected to totally random adverts for things I have absolutely no interest it.

I see more potential for a rat forum than I would for a specialist car forum especially if generating ad revenue is your main goal. A much wider range of ages, affordability and general running costs of a rat make it a larger target who want help and advice (and approval) from fellow rat owners.

I will turn adverts off for premium members, how's that? :) How it should be I think.

Fair point, there are many species of rat, differen't sizes. Larger range of colours than the GT86 and plenty of accessories for them. I'll consider a rat section  :D

Will you then also have to have rats as mods?

Or should that read mods who are rats?
