is it OK to switch engine treatment?

Because of my job I visited lubricant research labs of a few large oil companies, in the past. Many identical test engines are being tested with different oils, 24/7. Every parameter one can think of is being monitored. Engines are taken apart and used oils are analysed for a wide variety of parameters. They know much more than they share or are allowed to share. I'm not here to argue, the pub is a better place for arguing. 😁 I just want to share my thoughts and learn. A great New Year's Eve to all!

is it OK to switch engine treatment?

Meanwhile I gathered quite some info about additives. For the large oil companies it's small money to buy the rights to use certain additives. Their product span varies from very cheap oils to very expensive synthetic oils. So an oil with some extra fancy additives would certainly sell for a good profit. Then, why don't they offer such wonder lubricants? There must be a downside, which I haven't found... yet. I can imagine that worn engines may benefit from some additives. Also, an engine which has to perform at any cost, say in an F1 car, may benefit from a special lubricant. After each event the oil will be changed anyway, plus the engine hasn't been designed to survive 100k miles or more. Interesting subject.... πŸ€“

Some more testing. I genuinely wonder what the trade-off is. Thermal distribution across the engine? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3CfLBkew2c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88vwUwa3igQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8ZKMCfAue4

Oil additive testing for what it's worth... πŸ˜‰

Exactly! Premium engine oils have all additives required to give optimal performance under a wide variety of conditions.

    Bonnet adjustment rubbers

Was the problem there immediately after replacement? If not, maybe some bolts haven't been tightened well, allowing the bonnet to move just a little.

    Bonnet adjustment rubbers

Use a little removable paint or maybe some grease or shaving cream to see if there's contact between the metal and the rubber. Maybe the bonnet latch needs readjustment?

    Bonnet adjustment rubbers

Does the metal touch the rubbers? Tried to hammer those down? 😁😬🀐
  9. Machining a few caps, from material that's available anyway, takes little time. I like to experiment, you know. ☺️
  10. I could quite easily have a few plugs machined to perform some testing. That'll be in spring I guess, as right now it's too wet and cold outside. 😬
  11. Quite an old thread, but informative. I didn't know about this bizarre contraption. It might be worthwhile to experiment with a set of caps with little holes of different sizes. Maybe the sound can be improved? πŸ€” By the way, this is a great provision for nitrous oxide injection! πŸ˜πŸ˜‚

NA Tune up and CAT back exhaust

+20 hp sounds good. How about torque delivery? Any (measured) data?
  13. Watch this... Even a BMW 10 cylinder engine fits... By the way, the guy who runs this YouTube channel owns a BRZ.

    GT86/BRZ with BMW engine

I like the V10 sound, which remembers me of the good old Formula 1 V10 era... I'm really surprised to see a 90 degree V10 fitting the engine bay.

    Seriously want a GT86

Feel sorry for you. Didn't want to hurt you. Lost my dad a few years ago. Mom's still alive, almost 85 yo.

Congrats! πŸ‘ Let's hope you may enjoy your GT86 for a long time in good health, despite the background on your pictures. 😁

Squeak in Engine Bay, THINK It’s The AC

Apart from wear, the belt could be squeaking due to a slippery substance it might have picked up (oil, grease...). Inspection of the belt and eventual cleaning may cure the problem.
  19. Conclusion: Both rear spoiler designs only reduce lift by their newtonian mass. πŸ˜‚
  20. I see mine as a nice handle to open the trunk. 😁
  21. If useful downforce would be generated, this should affect top speed. There are no separate top speed specs for cars with and without rear spoiler.

    Which winter tyre?

@Twigman Maybe a heated driveway will solve the problem? πŸ˜πŸ˜‚ I live in Micro Siberia, as it concerns just a few square miles. Over here the sky tends to be clearer, so at night temperatures often drop below the freezing point, while 5 miles from here the temperature remains well above zero. Luckily this part of the country is as flat as a pancake, so I don't encounter severe grip problems.

    UK GT86 Xenon Temperature Colour?

They seldom are whiter than 5000 K. To be honest, I prefer them to not be too white. I've got LED head lights, which cause pretty harsh reflections. Also, a high colour temperature can be quite annoying under rainy or foggy conditions, as a lot of the short wavelength light reflects.

    Tail Wagging

My TPMS lit as well. After resetting it, it's totally happy with 2.3 bar.

    Tail Wagging

I have been driving around with reduced tyre pressure for a week, mainly on wet roads. There's definitely more stability in the tail. It's amazing what difference a pressure change of 4 to 5% makes. 😲
