  1. Around town... On the motorway... Changing up at 3000revs... As above,a GT86/BRZ is not good at all. On the other hand,on a flowing curvy country road, with the engine between 4000 and 7000 revs it’s really great fun like nothing else around the same price or considerably more. That’s the point of the car. P.S. The OP’s preconception of a GT86 not matching his expectations might just mean the car is not for him and we can’t all like the same.I would say also try a Coupe that has a different sort of appeal, say an Audi TT...some may deride them but if the OP prefers one that’s fine.

NA Tune up and CAT back exhaust

No danger of that...merely posted for discussion,I was already 99% sure they were pointless

NA Tune up and CAT back exhaust

Thanks for that, Lauren. Next question,do these gizmos add anything to the party? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Subaru-BRZ-Toyota-GT86-Scion-FRS-Power-Block-Intake-Spacers-19HP-UK-SELLER/264525626402?hash=item3d96f4bc22:g:hZoAAOSwvzFdyHeA

NA Tune up and CAT back exhaust

Just for future reference,so I can eventually decide which way to go... I assume with the new exhaust set up you don't get that droning at certain rev levels? (had that in the past on a 370z with a rear box delete and it was awful!) Now you have the lovely exhaust noise you want,I would think it makes sense to delete the sound generator?...(when you have the proper noise from the outside why would you want the artificial noise on the inside any more?)

    Aftermarket seats

Nice seats, but no GT86 subframes are available,as far as I can see.

    Meguiar's Foam ruined my car

Simply... Wash normally with a good quality car shampoo. If there are still marks use Autoglym Super resin polish (or an equivalent polish, but not just a wax) and that should restore the finish.

    Supra Review

Thanks for that Lauren, great review. Can I point out that you can have that very same engine/gearbox combo in the M140i...something to be considered when you think how little you need to pay for one of the last of these compared to a Supra. However, having briefly owned one, I can say that the rest of the M140i (i.e just about everything other than the engine and box) was distinctly average...and no doubt way below the attributes of the Supra, certainly it seemed to have too much power for my talents and UK road conditions! If I was in the market for a Supra I would have to sample an M2 Competition first (similar engine and gearbox again)...but I'm not,so I'll carry on debating what to do/when I'll do something about the GT86's torque dip...next year,I hope!

    Service cost

My car is just coming up to one year old from first registration but since ir was sat with the dealer for six months and I have not been able to use it much the mileage is only about 1300. A glance at the Toyota website tells me that an intermediate service will be £250.I suppose oil and a filter could be say £50,so the total price seems excessive ,unless they will be doing something clever that I'm not aware of. So,what to do?...any alternative or just suck it up to make sure the warranty is preserved?
  9. XK140

    Service cost

Quite, but there's a big difference between what an 120k miles car needs and a one year old car with 1300 miles! In reality, the car just needs an oil and filter change now it is run in (some might say not even that) and...absolutely nothing else, but I suppose I'll get a paper with a lot of ticked boxes about things that I already knew were OK !

Discount for October - NA Tuning Package

Thanks, good to know that. Sorry to bother you again, but can I just ask what would be the effect on noise levels if at the same time as this mod the noise generator thingee was done away with by fitting the modified (closed) inlet pipe?

Discount for October - NA Tuning Package

With this package,i.e. manifold and overpipe, what happens to the overall noise level if the rest of the exhaust is left standard?

    Taking off private plate question

Correct, it's easy online. Follow the steps and pay the fee and within a week or so you will get a retention cert in the post and also a replacement V5 containing the new reg that they have allocated to the car.

A nice car,not sure about the price! https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/toyota/gt-86/toyota-gt86-gt1-d-4s-giallo-2016/9842732

Needs to repeat the exercise, then the price would be about right!

    Wheel Offset

Not strictly about a GT86,but some general principles will apply and I thought there will be a fair few on here knowledgeable on such issues. THE STORY... By a perhaps rash decision I bought a set of new alloys at a very attractive price to serve as winter wheels for the family car I have on order (I won't be using the GT86 when the snow and ice is about!)...it's a Octy vrs 245 Estate. Compared to the oem wheels they are the same diameter and width BUT have 15mm more offset. (If you want to look at it in GT86 terms, wheels are 17x7 ET48,so it would be like fitting 15mm spacers or going to the same size rims but with ET 33.) Leaving aside clearance issues,I'm confident they will be OK here,I'm starting to get worried about how the car is actually going to drive with this increase in the track...Uneven tyre wear? erratic handling?...lots of fwd torque steer?...Also,might the Insurance company disapprove? Any thoughts?..or should I cut my losses and sell them unused?

    Wheel Offset

Lauren, many thanks for that reassurance. I've never gone down the road of fitting spacers/more offset rims and when you do a search on that topic you come up with some dire warnings that problems as I mentioned could well happen. On the other hand, you only need look at a few forums to realise that loads of people routinely fit spacers with no problems stated. I will tell the insurance before I fit them. P.S.Now I've driven the GT86 a bit more I'm feeling the torque dip from 3 to 4.5k...so the TD package beckons...maybe next year! Regards,John.

    Toyota Warranty

A strange one this... My GT86 Pro was registered by Toyota Derby last October.I purchased it earlier this month with less than 100miles recorded. Given those facts I would expect that as of now the manufacturers warranty has about 4 and a half years left? But,there may be better news.In the Service and Warranty booklet there is the following para: "When does the warranty begin? The warranty period begins on the date the vehicle is delivered to the first retail purchaser." So it will be a nice surprise to me if I now get the full 5 years! What do we think? Is there a catch?
  19. XK140

    Toyota Warranty

Just a follow up on this one. I spoke to Toyota Customer Services and they tell me that the warranty starts from the first registration date...since they say a dealer registration means they have purchased the car. I said,OK,I thought it was too good to be true that I would get a full five years warranty, but I told them that I considered the warranty wording misleading and should be changed.I doubted that the average person would in any way consider that the dealer registering a new car would in any way be "the first retail purchaser." So there it is...anyway,still loving the car.Just gone over 500 miles and now going to 5000 revs and will work up to redlining it when I approach 1000 miles.
  20. I was very surprised with an item omitted from the GT86 I've just acquired...a stop/start system! I thought they were compulsory on cars now,but what do I know... Anyway, quite pleased NOT to have one.

New (and oldest ?) GT86 owner

After considering quite a few of the 17 on models available at the moment I settled on a pre reg (Oct 18) Pro model with less than 100 miles on the clock,so still to be run in. At 70 years of age this may be my last sports car!...and I've had quite a few in the last 50 years or so. Now I've been well aware of the GT86 since its launch, and of the great reviews it has had but circumstances have not been right to get one until now. The main thing that has moyivated me in its direction now is that in recent years I have chopped ad changed with a number of 300 horse power cars but eventually thought that on UK public roads the power of the GT86 would be enough for me and actually more fun. I was right! Just one more thing...I would like to say a special hello to Lauren, whose enthusiasm for the marque and knowledge of automotive matters (and most other things!) has few equals.I remember her from MR2 forum days and trust that she is well.
