    Bilstein B14 coilovers - review

Yes but good damping tech costs money so if you want that its gona cost, to be fair to ohlins it is actually not badly priced when you look at other high quality dampers, comparing it to Bc or Tein etc is not comparing apples with apples

    Bilstein B14 coilovers - review

Tried a fair few setups on the 2 x GT86's ive owned and for road use the Ohlins kit is far above everything else, its very nearly "have your cake and eat it" and im VERY fussy :D... Ohlins low speed comfort is a little firmer than stock setup but once your traveling at speed it just soaks it all up and a different planet to Tein or HKS coilover kits i also tried (as well as Eibach lowered stock dampers) Standard Ohlins kit is a bit soft sprung for track use especially at rear but thats easy remedied with some firmer springs if you want it more track focused, these dampers can take much firmer spring rate if required. Lack of damper travel is a real problem on these cars like many these days which makes it hard for suspension companies to get enough travel to cope with uk roads! , also as with most things its all personal preference so best to try and get a ride/drive in a car with kit you would like to try.

Tein Monosport or SRC owners ?

Hi, Currently researching next move with suspension and as i already have the Tein EDFC active setup on my Streetflex it makes sense to try and stay with Tein brand if i can find something suitable. Otherwise will go Ohlins probably. So anyone on here running the Tein Monosport or even SRC setup on there 86/BRZ for road use i welcome any info Ian

    Wheel nuts overtightened

Over tightening can have some serious consequences, there is a big chance of snapping a stud or stripping a nut which is then a real mission to sort, especially with locking nuts which are often a bit weak I find, im sure it was a minor glitch as RRG seem to have a good rep

    Wheel nuts overtightened

Pet hate of mine this!, makes me boil at one of my local tyre places where they go crazy with the windy gun when refitting wheels making them mental tight! then think they are doing right thing by checking with torque wrench, obviously they think a torque wrench is for making sure its not loose but not for checking how tight they are in first place, i always take my wheels in loose these days or go elsewhere if i have time.
  6. Still got these cluttering up spare room! if anyone wants them make me an offer
  7. SOLD ! I have a pair of Tein 5kg @ 150mm long front coilover springs for sale, I bought these to try on my old Tein Streetflex coilovers but they will work on most Tein setups, get in touch if you want me to check fitment. I replaced the 6kg front springs that came on my kit with these to soften the front end for road use and they worked well, I preferred the 6kg for track use but on road 5kg made a nice difference so worth a shot if your car is mainly road and a good saving on buying new, they have done around 300miles so pretty much like new. SOLD - Price wise I would like £60 including uk postage (I paid £94 the pair including delivery) Collection from me in Cumbria is possible just drop me a PM for details. Pics below. Cheers Ian

    Ebc vs stoptec vs hawk

I have some used but refaced etc Carbotech XP8 front and rear i could do you a good price on as they came out my old 86, certainly a big jump in performance over all the above mentioned pads, bit dusty and can squeak if doing gentle road use but if you want to stop these with suitable fluid are all you need drop me a pm if of interest. ***PRICE DROP**** Supercharged GT86 62 plate

Looks a nice kit that decent spec for the money as well Its a bit of a select market selling these charged cars but buyers are out there just might take awhile, i chose to put my cosworth charged 86 back to standard to make it easier to sell and just sold the car to Arnold clark and parts seperate on here, ended up costing me nothing to own it for 6months/9k miles which was nice for a change, just an option for you if you need to sell it quicker.

Price wise I would like £180 ono including Uk delivery, RRP price on this is £288 so a good saving. Located in Cumbria and can be collected if required. Pic below, get in touch if you need anymore details. Ian

    EcuTek Programming kit/cable/dongle

No the Cable/Dongle kit is always seperate to the license, if you buy a license from Fensport or other dealer you then need to buy/rent/borrow a cable to flash the maps onto ecu or data. Software for basic access and tuning/datalogging etc is free download from Ecutek website, there is also a Tuner Race software package for fiddling with custom maps etc but i didnt bother with that just used free software. Brake upgrades - discs/pads?

Personally i always avoid dot 5.1 for the reason it generally has a much lower dry and wet boiling point compared to racing dot4's as you can see in chart above. Dry boiling point is only relevant for when you first open bottle, as all dot 3/4/5.1 fluids start to absorb moisture as soon as you open the sealed bottle the wet boiling point is just as critical, unless you bleed system on regualr basis keeping it fresh, this is why the Castrol SRF is thought of as the best Some look to Dot5 which is a totally different thing and doesnt absorb moisture at all and doesnt damage paint if spilled, however downside is not all seals work with it and when it does boil you often get no warning, it goes from hard pedal to nothing at all usually!, unlike dot 3/4/5.1 etc which usually start going spongy before pedal goes completley Ian

    Brake upgrades - discs/pads?

RBF600 is where I usually start and if kept fresh with a quick bleed before each track outing is usually good enough, Castrol SRF is the best as said above and the wet boiling point (much more important than people think due to fluid absorbing water as soon bottle seal is opened) is leagues ahead of anything else as you can see on above, its not cheap but not stupid money and way better than loosing pedal on track. My advice would be to start with fresh RBF600 and if that doesn't keep pedal firm change to the SRF, if you boil that then learn how to drive! Ian

    Brake upgrades - discs/pads?

Well they are track pads really and while from a performance point of view they can be used on road there is always a downside to track capable performance, in this case yes they can get a bit squeaky if not given a regular workout and are quite dusty, usually on my cars i leave them in for road use but i found on my 86 most of road use was gentle with very little braking so they got a bit squeaky and hence swapped them in and out between track outings which is simple to do thankfully, i think these have done 1 trackday and 3 sprints so not much use really I

    Brake upgrades - discs/pads?

Ive got some part worn Carbotech XP8 pads front and rear in my spares collection im going to be selling, I found these coupled with good quality/fresh brake fluid more than man enough for the Cosworth charged car on track Let me know if any interest I will measure how much life and work out price, I know rears are hardly worn and front probably 20% used from memory but will check. Ian
  18. All SOLD thanks Ok another part left over after sale of car is my Sports Cat Manifold, this was fitted to my Cosworth charged car when I bought it and made good power so flows well as you would expect for 4-2-1 setup, its near enough equal length runners for best power and coupled with the free flow cat will allow engine to breathe lot better than stock item. I only removed it as suspected It had a cat problem due to EML coming on but turned out to be a map issue and cat looks fine, however if I was to of refitted it would probably of hollowed the cat out as these cheap cats can struggle to pass mot's so might as well open it right out imo. SOLD - Price wise for the manifold I was thinking around £100+postage, or can be collected from me in Cumbria, it was £275 new as you can see on paperwork Also to go with it if required is a manifold to heads fitting kit, this is all genuine Subaru parts as you can see and consists of 2 gaskets, 6 studs and nuts to, price wise £15 if sending with manifold, or £20 posted on its own. - BOLT/GASKET KIT SOLD Pics below get in touch if any questions. Cheers Ian
  19. Gaskets/studs etc sold to TTR Manifold still available Ian
  20. SOLD Ok as im returning my car more to standard spec ive removed the amazing Ohlins MP20 coilover kit and they are now for sale, i bought these in July this year after a lot of research to try and find the ultimate coilovers for my usage, which is mostly road with the odd trackday/sprint etc so needed plenty of compliance/ good road manners yet enough body control for fast road and odd trackday. Most coilover kits on the market are too firm for the bumpy roads we have around here in the Lake district and after a good chat with Ohlins and a test drive/chat with another owner running this kit on his turbo GT86 i made the purchase, i was initally slightly concerned with the softer springs on this kit possibly being a bit too soft and spoke to Ohlins about capability of dampers to cope with firmer springs if i did feel need to upgrade, they confirmed that as these dampers have same valving as earlier MI20 kit which ran a much firmer spring there is no problem just changing springs if requiring a firmer more track suitable setup, however after 3 months and just under 4k miles ive not felt the need to change them! as well doing mostly road use ive done a trackday and 2 sprints and they have performed perfectly, doing exactly what Ohlins said they would This kit uses the stock top mounts to stop increased NVH/Harshness you get with solid adjustable top mounts, i will leave the stock top mounts fitted so they are ready to bolt striaght onto your car, unless someone wants them removed then i can take off its not a problem SOLD - Price wise im thinking around £1450 +delivery (if required and collection no problem) is a fair price, brand new this kit is just under £2000 +cost of top mounts (~£200) if you didnt have or want to swap your stock ones, so with such low mileage and amazing condition (as you can see in pictures below taken after just a quick wipe down last night) i think this is a good price for what is probably the ultimate road setup for the GT86, or if you wanted to make more track spec a quick spring change is all that is needed. Located in Cumbria just off J41 of M6 if you wanted to inspect/collect Will include all original boxes, instructions and c-spanners etc. Pics below, get in touch if your interested Cheers Ian

Tein Monosport or SRC owners ?

Depends what you want the suspension for and how much comfort is a factor for you i guess, out of the box the Tein Monosport is more for track/smooth road use and very good at that from what ive read, works well enough on road but is quite a firm setup. The Ohlins MP20 kit i have is more for road/fast road/occasional track use and more compliant than the Tein kit for that reason as it runs a softer spring setup, as well as more compliant damping, however a spring change on the Ohlins is all that is needed to cope with serious track use if required as the damper valving is capable of handling much firmer springs if requried, i was going to change the springs but have found it pretty good allrounder as it is and with most of my usage being road/fastroad it has been perfect for me. Tein Monosport or SRC owners ?

I bought the Ohlins MP20 kit in the end as I wanted a more road focused setup, the Tein Monosport is by all accounts very good but I think probably a bit firm for the roads around me, the Ohlins kits uses quite a soft spring and just soaks up the bumps when damping is on softer settings yet still capable on track if damping is turned up, I did plan on fitting firmer springs but its a good allrounder as it is so haven't bothered. It maybe coming off soon as car is going slowly back to stock so if your interested let me know Ian
  25. Think im sorted now thanks everyone
