FI tuning on AT, questions.

Your big weak point is the auto box - I'm not sure if you need an auto box but if not if your long term plans are bigger power it may be more financially sensible to swap to a manual?

My days with Manual are over, personal preference.

I've accepted a lower target for performance, just trying to work out what is safe for a 30min track run (with oil cooling solution).

1) I'll probably ship over a jackson racing oil cooler or similar.

2) I could easily freight forward an HKS v3 if i'm going to benefit from that.

If you're going for the JR oil cooler/radiator solution you'll need to confirm fitment with the lines etc. There's no benefit of the V3 over the V2, I believe it comes with no restrictor but a larger pulley so power outputs are similar. The V2's restrictor can just be bored out for more power if you like, cheaper than a newer pulley. The V3 also comes with the F-Con style tune box but again it's loaded with US based calibrations and not any compatible with our ECU.

You'll prob want a gearbox oil cooling system too for extended track sessions.

If the above is correct then i see no reason to go for the v3? Will go Ecutek for tune on the HKS v2 kit. Thanks for the tip on line fitment, i'll look into that when the time comes.

Gearbox oil cooling solution noted, will have to look for fitted quotes nearer to the time.

Still leaning towards the TD kit overall due to cost and hoping for some more people to chime in.

Thanks, well i saw a few threads on ft86 and assumed otherwise, hope somebody can clear this up, as it would infinitely suck if that's the case. I'd definitely be after more than 280 at the crank in the long run.

I can dig threads up if needed, basically saying the AT is good to withstand around 350whp. Also, according to the thread below, there's a solution to cooling the AT trans, but a lil expensive:

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51851

Would love to see a tuning shop chime in on this thread and spread wisdom.

Stark performance A.T cooler.

I had a sprintex with methanol injection on my car running 240 wheel stock A.T trans. S.c is off the car now. Had zero issues with the trans at that pwr level.

I'm pretty sure the trans will handle more defo. But not much more. For road you will be fine. Hard track use is what will blow it as the heat will cause the clutch packs to just fail. I've really looked into this subject as I've had a manual car and a auto.

A new torque converter won't do nothing for longevity. I spoke to various auto box specialists and they all said you will have to rebuild your clutch packs to handle more torque. The peak hp is not the worry it's the torque.

Yeah you can put 350 on the box for sure it's been done but it's clear the box will give in no doubt. Proven. It's longevity you need.

If it's big bhp your after you choose the wrong 86.

You can run more power with a trans cooler but avoid the track. Or just a few Laps here and there.

By the way the box is straight out a older lexus and not designed for high performance

If going turbo no more than a stage 1. 2 at most. 250ish wheel I'd say will be your limit.

Centrifugal s.c will be your best bet as torque is thin until top end. They can also produce bigger numbers your looking for top end.

YES! Thank you :)

By the way wait on choosing kits. There is a new turbo kit coming out and it's turbo is supposed to deliver linear power like a s.c. price will probably be competitive too. Not long now. :)

Too late, i found an AVO stage 3 billet with race breather and dump valve for just £2000, with 20k miles and previously fitted at fensport. They are gonna fit and tune tune so that will be taken care of responsibly. I'm not after more than 270/280 as don't want to risk the stock block either.

Obviously i'll be buying one of these coolers before i track it :)

Literally so excited ;)

My car is also silver, was just wondering how to go about getting a racing stripe like that? Very tastefully done.

Basically my car is all out with options when I bought it. Stripe inc. Has everything apart from the upgraded audio. Don't need that. 😎
