JamesP1991 222 Report post Posted February 19, 2015 After much deliberating I will probably be ringing up Fensport tomorrow to enquire about booking my car in for an Ecutek remap. At the moment I don't have any plans to go FI, and probably won't either as I love N/A cars too much. As some members know, mine is currently fully decatted, with a complete exhaust system (catback, front pipe and overpipe), UEL header and I have also replaced the panel filter and intake pipework, has anyone else had a similar setup and then taken their car in to be mapped? I didn't know if anyone had any first hand experience with how the engine responds to a map with a quite heavily breathed on N/A setup, what kind of figures did you get in terms of improvement and how much of a change did it make to the feel of the car? I just wanted some ball park figures to work from really. Any answers would be much appreciated
Tareim 343 Report post Posted February 19, 2015 should see up to 230bhp I reckon based on examples I've seen online from people putting UEL's on, but that's a ball park figure I didn't see any dynos to prove it

I am guessing that is 230bhp at the fly? Obviously when I talk to the guys at Fensport tomorrow about it, they will be able to explain a bit more IE realistic targets, but I just thought I would ask the question here first to see if anyone else had mapped a setup similar. Mark-in-Stoke 488 Report post Posted February 19, 2015 Having this very thing done tomorrow, UEL header, cobra o/p cobra sports cat middle, Miltek cat back With Takeda air system. For mapping with ecutec licence it's around £550 inc vat.

No doubt I will get answers from Adrian and the gang tomorrow when I ring up, but it would be great to hear how you get on! Be sure to share all the juicy details like dyno graphs and what the car is like to drive afterwards Will you be staying N/A too?
rob275 1817 Report post Posted February 19, 2015 The likelihood of dyno graphs tomorrow is slim as Adrian doesn't have a dyno! but you should see between 220-

Mark-in-Stoke 488 Report post Posted February 19, 2015 Someone posted a link where it showed expected gains using different set ups, think it was the FT86 site??? (but can I find it now....D'oh) Got it LINKY

(but can I find it now....D'oh) Got it LINKY Great little article that Mark, cheers for the link! I don't know if I'll be able to hit close to that 40hp target at the bottom, but a 28-30hp gain is something that would satisfy me! The only problem with FI is that it is close to £3000-£4000 as an investment and I just don't have that kind of money laying around!
Mark-in-Stoke 488 Report post Posted February 19, 2015 I like the idea of the extra torque and no dip anymore .
Jamie_GRMN 177 Report post Posted February 19, 2015 You won't get any power/torque figures from Adrian, he road maps them and they don't have an on site dyno. I have the same set up minus the manifold (we're not American ) and am yet to have mine dyno'd, don't really see the point in needing the figures, all I know is it pulls a hell of a lot better and feels quicker all through the rev range, I'd expect mine to be around the 215 mark so as with what rob said I'd guess between 220 and 225 with the manifold as well your torque dip should pretty much disappear though as well Mapping with the license was £514 when I had mine done last August. I apologise for my Americanisms! I have been reading the FT86 club website too much and it appears to have rubbed off on me! To be honest power wise I am not too fussed as I don't plan to go FI any way, the only thing I want rid off is the torque dip! Far too many times have I pulled out of a second gear corner only for the engine to go flat at 4k and I just sit still! £514 is great value to be honest especially as you get all the features with that and the license... Looks like she will be hopefully booked in for March then ready for the Japfest trip in May!

JamesP1991 222 Report post Posted February 19, 2015 Everyone calls them headers, winds Lauren up too I abuse my car a lot when on track and try and always make sure that I'm above the torque dip so never bothers me, plus I only have one silencer the standard manifold so noise would become an issue (already at 98db) so I'd have to cut up my lovely custom exhaust to fit a HFC and extra silencer I'll try and refrain from using the word in future! I do tend to keep her pinned above 5k when I can as that is obviously the sweet spot.. But sometimes on tight corners you just wish you had that little bit lower down to pull you out! Funny you should say you've gone custom with your exhaust, as I did too with my frontpipe and overpipe! Same quality but much cheaper as prices for GT86 parts are yet to fully come down! Oh by the way, I sent you a message RE Japfest and sharing a room, let me know what you think Jamie as I need to sort a room out ASAP too!
Special K 442 Report post Posted February 20, 2015 James - yes, you can realistically expect 225bhp at the flywheel. You won't get rid of the torque dip completely but it will be greatly improved. If you get above 180bhp at the hubs you've got a result.. For dyno runs I would recommend TDI at Thurrock or Mark at Abbey Motorsports. Quick thrash down the A12/M25 for you.. gets the car nicely warmed up, heh heh... Spec K
Lauren 2259 Report post Posted February 20, 2015 Must admit I don't really get the whole 'torque dip' issue. I have noticed it when accelerating in 6th gear on the motorway. Otherwise I don't notice it that much. When pushing on I'll generally be well north of the 3500-4000rpm area (where you notice it), so it's never been an issue. I don't have a remap either. 1 Mark-in-Stoke reacted to this
