    Update 11/07/2020 - Blyton Park Trackday - Video #3

After posting the track battles footage on youtube, the Lotus Exige owner commented on the video and informed me that he had footage of when I was infront of him for a couple of laps, here is his video. It's nice to get a different persective of my driving.

You can see a big difference in line and speed through bunga bunga... What kind of corner names is that! But anyway, you pull away nicely from the Lotus there.

  2. I'd suggest once you upgrade the brakes and are still planning to do trackdays grab an ODB reader and keep an eye on your oil temps.

Stock brakes tend to suffer fade before your oil gets beyond 130C, however once you drop some new pads in, oil temps are your next big worry.

Heat management is the main reason for bbk not braking force?

Yup. Stock brakes can lock your tires already, so you literally cant gain from more braking force.

However, give it 15 or so 60to10mph hard brakes, and suddenly your stock system isnt stopping you as well as the brakes are fading.

BBK will take longer to start that fading process.

NB - Its also for looks.

Is there any need for that kind of dick move on a track day?

No, usually that kind of thing will get you a talking too or potentially kicked off the day. Opentrack are a bit lax with it though.

@will300 the consistency may also be down to driver experience.... But it couldn't be that, must be the mods 😛

  5. Cheers Church.

The current plan is 20mm bolt on spacers to ensure clearance, that effectively gives a 68 ET on the stock wheels ET of 48.

Pretty sure I got that the wrong way.... it'll have a 28ET effective NOT 68.

It also means the Rim Outer edge is 156mm out from the hub vs 136 stock.

It also means the Rim outer edge is 60mm out from the hub vs 40 stock.

Scrub radius is what has me concerned, and that's why im after the configurations that others currently run, especially those that track the car.

  6. I'm looking to get a K-Sport BBK installed at the front. I'm having a bit of a crisis as the stock wheels (which I like, sue me :p) wont fit them meaning I need a spacer.

However, I dont really want a spacer which means I'd need a new set of rims. I'm worried that the spacer will screw up the handling, but I expect I'm worried over nothing.

If you already have a BBK fitted, could you let me know what ET & width/spacer you are running (along with the rim name?) so I can get a few ideas on sizes that will practically work.

  7. Sorry to hear that VAD.

Jack it up at the front first to see if they spin, if it does likely it's the handbrake seized. The roads were seriously heavily salted for the drive back, so that would accelerate the binding to the brakes.

Some percussive persuasion on the rears may help if thats the case.

Dont forget if your floor it to try to brake the lock off, you're going to shoot forwards once it clears, so have a clear road around you!

It depends on the track, at Oulton Park I'm sure I got less than 13mpg fill up to fill up (includes the short journey to the track).

This is what I have found too.

Silverstone was dire for mileage, had to fill up at lunch after topping the tank on the way into the circuit.

Most of the time im using about 1&1/2 tanks of fuel for a track day.

I'm going to throw a potentially controversial car in here.

    Peugeot 206 GTi.

I know a fair few people will like them, and I did until I drove one. I was working in the motor trade at the time so it was a good opportunity for me to drive a lot of cars, this particular one came in part exchange and my god was it a lemon.

It didn't drive anywhere near the expectation that I had and it felt like it was put together with plastic and some superglue (it is french, after all).

That's really disappointing. That was a Peugeot I always wanted to like!

There's a video thats on YouTube just been uploading by some Aussies. Who have had their rods go at about 400bhp. Pretty interesting watch as they take apart the engine and show you.

If I remember where on YouTube I'll post a link.

I know I'll go supercharger route but thought hmm if I went harrop and eventually wanted more power to do internals and then ask if harrop could make their smaller pulley. Haha now I'm dreaming

High performance academy? Had it go while testing their anti lag.

  11. Honestly, I live near Heathrow and can't really hear the planes when they come in, but outside its noticeable.

If I can hear your car when I'm in my flat it's pretty damn loud, I think those are the ones they are looking at.

  12. The problem isnt as simple as at X BHP a rod will go.

I got speaking to Mike at TD, he was explaining it was more about peak cylinder pressure. This is something that Supercharging has an advantage over turbo as it increases in a linear fashion where a turbo nowadays can push to max boost early on in the rev range. As the car revs up the peak cylinder pressure naturally drops off.

The rods are also sintered which produces an irregular output hence why it is a lottery.
