  1. Spring garage clean and I need to move on some parts from my now sold 2017 facelift BRZ

Collect from near Anglesey Circuit, North Wales, Chester or South Manchester

  2. I am running the Ohlins SUSMP21 coilovers with 5kg springs all round. They came with 40/30kg springs upon purchase in 2019 which I found a little soft on track.  As for ride comfort, set at a anywhere from midway to soft settings will have them riding AND handling way better than stock.

Just be aware that the strut design makes fitting camber bolts nye on impossible, so to obtain any camber you are looking at top mounts.   I like many others have experienced the infamous Ohlins 'clonk' at low speeds over undulated road surfaces which is definitely related to the top mount to strut connection area https://www.gt86.org.uk/forums/forums/topic/8471-coilover-help-required/?tab=comments#comment-125547.

I spent a great deal of time and money diagnosing the issue and assuming I had purchased damaged goods, the dampers were tested by Ohlins. They got a clean bill of health, and the top mounts were replaced FOC. The noise vanished once the stock mounts were fitted to the Ohlins struts, so the top mounts are where the noise originates. Saying that I also had some lovely Raceseng top mounts which were also ‘clunky’ at low speeds combined with the Ohlins struts.

Obviously some NVH is to be expected on any coil over set up but the annoying noise I have experienced with these does cheapen the driving experience given that they are far more expensive than many other set ups which don’t suffer the same issue.

Saying all of that the actual damping that can be obtained for both Road & Track is an excellent compromise IMO.

Any more progression Booboo? Your story sounds extremely similar to mine with a very prominent clunking noise when going slowly over slightly uneven road and small bumps. Similarly I can also recreate the noise by bouncing the front of the car.

I also have the Ohlins SUSMP21 kit and the Ohlins adjustable top mounts. After many hours checking torques and trying to find any clues I took it up to Ohlins at Silverstone to get the shocks refurbished with new bushes (at expense) and it made no difference. Dyno showed shocks were fine.

Since then I've gone back to stock top mounts and it's definitely lessened the noise, however I can tell it is still there. I think the stock top mounts dampen the noise with the rubber material in contact with the chassis, compared to the metal-metal contact of the ohlins. So it's more bearable to drive but not a long term solution as I know it's still there and I have no camber adjustment.

ARB bushes seem fine but I haven't tried replacing these. Whiteline droplinks are fairly new also.

This is an issue that several others have reported with the ohlins kit (perhaps no coincidence?) but no definitive answers that I've seen. I'm almost at the point of switching to alternative kits, but it seems such a shame to downgrade from the ohlins shocks and isn't necessarily a guaranteed fix.

I might try sticking the Ohlins top mounts back on and try recording a video under the wheel arch to see if that can give any more clues.

  6. Before these go on Fleabay etc I have up for sale four Matt Black Rota TItan's in 17x9 5x100 ET42 currently fitted with 245x40x17 PS4's

These are a comparitively light wheel for their dimensions and lighter than the stock 17x7's

I purchased these new, so I know they have zero issues.  There is a small stone chip on one wheel and two teeny weeny ones on two anothers but other than that they are in great condition.  Tyres have approx. 3mm of tread left. Two have a bit more life.  No punctures or repairs.  Valves are standard and not TPMS.  Rota wheel centres are included.

    Looking for £500

I have no way of packaging them, but you are welcome to organise your own courier

Would prefer collection.  Based in North Wales but could get them to Chester or South Manchester with prior arrangement

  7. I've recently tyred the same size wheel and it took me a while to decide. First thing up is recommended sized tyre width for the wheel. 225 is min and 255 your max.  Rolling radius is next up.  Enter stock sizes then ones you would prefer to check differences in this example website    https://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyre-size-calculator/

I discounted the 225 from the off and although they would have been the lightest and most playable set up I figured the stretch would be too much

Having already ran a 245 on a 17x9 wheel  (245x40x17)  I fancied going down to a 235 to reduce not only width but weight.  Unfortunately matching a 235x40x18 to the stock size means running a 20mm larger rolling radius which I personaly didn't fancy.  In the end I went 245x35x18 which is only a 4mm difference.  Tyre choice Michelin PS4 as I had already run a set on the car and liked them.

  8. Recording in Gwrych castle in 1988 well before it was sadly left to vandalism, rot and ruin. Although it is recently being restored to its almost former glory and anyone who watches too much TV will know it as the current home of 'Im a celebrity get me out of here'

I still have the white kit although I play something a little more civilised these days

My advise would be driving without them. They are only there to simplify a bit putting on. They do nothing once wheel properly torqued down. If you are ok with slightly less convenient putting wheel on, there is no drawback with driving w/o them.

Hi Church. I've read conflicting info ref the negative effects of not using them but agree,  mounting and removing would be far easier and less likely to result in damage to the locating holes of the wheels or nuts with some fitted and would prefer to have a set on.
