  1. Close call = dash cam ordered from Amazon! Was driving along, doing about 65, and a Mercedes taxi chose the last second to pull out at the jct for furzton lake, I slammed on the brakes, and had to skid my car to the left to avoid him. If I hadn't have turned as well as braked I would have t-boned him. And after, rather than stop and say sorry he sped off! So popped my GT86 in sport mode, went all Jason borne on him and chased him around mk till he went onto the a5 and I got his license plate and taxi number. I've called the taxi firm and they got him to call me to apologise 👏👌

Close call = Dash cam ordered

Yeah mine cost 130 :S was a bit more than i intended to spend but the reviews don't lie, this thing is awesome! I didn't check this list, but would be surprised if this one isn't on it as this tends to be the 'mainstream' one people go for I got this one vvv https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B071JTRQK4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I won't review it further as the reviews under amazon sum it up really nicely, but so far i would agree with the top ones

Close call = Dash cam ordered

Dash cam all fitted I went for the nextbase 512GW as it is really highly reviewed. It was really easy to set up and really easy to run the cable through the roof and into the glove box 12v port without the need for any tools Turns on and starts recording from engine start. Let's hope I never need it but it's nice to know it's there!

    Heel/Toe Advise

Hey all o/ So i have a quick question, until i put in some research i had no clue about the heel/toe technique for downshifting under heavy breaking to rev match. My rev matching is fine when downshifting when not breaking, but i just wanted to clarify something. So since doing some research (mostly youtube) on how to heel/toe i have been out quite a lot in my spare time just driving around so i can practice. The issue i'm having is the stock pedals have it so the brake is so much further up than the accelerator when idle. So the issue is, unless i am practically doing an emergency stop, i find it extremely difficult to reach and give a quick press of the accelerator whilst braking with my toe. Is this because of the stock pedals? and can you adjust/replace them so they are both nearer to the same lateral level whilst idle. Or is it that i just need to practice more and more and maybe wear clown shoes or shoes with a massive heel xD Thanks in advance for any tips

Close call = Dash cam ordered

To be fair the Jason borne comment was a bit of a joke, I did follow him for a few roundabouts to get the index but I didn't break any limits or corner speeds to do this so didn't put myself in any further risk

    Heel/Toe Advise

Yeah, in fairness i can reach it, but then not enough to actually compress the pedal. So even just the few MM extra this gives will help, plus i presume this is also slightly wider at the bottom than the stock pedal? this would also help Cheers lauren Yeah i appreciate it all comes down to practice practice practice which i will keep doing on my daily commuting Cheers for the link!

    Heel/Toe Advise

Yeah that would be perfect, just to bring that accelerator up to the same level. How much did that cost if i may ask? and i presume the installation is just a few bolts and pretty easy? *edit* - i just googled it. For 38 quid that will help a lot. I'll get one ordered and get it on obviously i still need hours and hours more practice but this will help a lot thanks!
  8. Hey all o/ Just a quick post in case anyone was having the same thought process as me. Basically i have the issue that i live in a top floor flat, so i have no access to a hose pipe, and although i could wash my car with the ol' bucket and sponge, this would still mean i have to fill a bucket of water from my flat and walk down 3 sets of stairs carefully with it, and then have to keep going up to get fresh water xD As that isn't practical for me i tend to use these hand car washes that are all over the place. But now i have a car worth looking after i am reluctant to take my GT86 to one of these hand car washes in case of scratches etc. So that's when i stumbled across Waterless Cleaning products. I was really hesitant to try these as i was doubtful they would work, but i decided i would try some and i was very wrong! I'm sure most people already know about these products or can make a educated guess over what they do, but essentially just spray on the cleaning product onto the car even when bone dry, wipe it off with a microfiber towel and then buff it with another one and you get a perfectly clean and shiny car This sort of product is perfect for me because where i have to park for work i am constantly getting bird poop on my car so rather than having to take my car to the car wash once per week thanks to the poop i can just clean it off super quick and easy when it happens, and generally clean my car myself hassle free Thought it may be helpful to post this in case anyone had been looking for a similar solution or wasn't sure if these products actually worked well i can confirm it doesn't scratch your car, it does only take 2 mins per panel to clean, and it really does clean off mud/dirt/dust and leave it showroom clean Here is the link to the product i used, but there appears to be a lot out there https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01IF9VGNC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I forgot to take photos this morning as i'm at work now, But i'll update the thread with some photos of before and after if anyone is interested to see the results

    Waterless Cleaners Review

See thats what i was worried about to but it really doesn't. I tested it today on some dry light mud and was no issues at all, i didn't have to use any pressure because the cleaning fluid lifts it off so you don't need to use the pressure But don't get me wrong, if my car was ever caped in thick mud, i will take it to a proper car wash. But for day to day washing of light dirt, bird poop, water marks and light mud this stuff is perfect Yeah obviously if i was able to wash my car properly without so much effort i have with my flat i would. But this is a great alternative

    Will this work?!?

Yeah it says its down from 500 to 400 xD but oh well, i'm still happy getting it from halfords as they will fit it for me as i know its an easy job but i know id still make a mess of it haha. Ah good spot! i would have kept it stock and got this, but only if it was cheaper. For £360 i may as well upgrade to something with android auto play and more features and looks nicer Although i will keep the stock one should i ever want to switch back or should i ever sell my 86 and want to sell it as original Haha only just Gary! Thank you yeah there are plenty of good brands out there, it all just comes down to how much you are willing to pay, against how many features you are willing for it not to have Personally i the minimum i wanted for a headunit was: Bluetooth, Usb, Aux, Cd player, Satnav. But ideally also wanted a better EQ and the ablility to remove the screen for security

    Will this work?!?

Hey all Me again, So i've got my GT86 now, and one thing i have noticed is my media system hasnt got the Sat Nav installed. I was aware that i believe it was an optional extra, so clearly mine didnt get it. But obviously its still the same media unit, so presumably i can install the SatNav? From a previous forum post someone recommended the below link as it was cheaper than from toyota themselves (half the price in fact) and would update it. But does anyone know if the below link is just like a software update? or basically like installing a fresh program. If its the latter i presume i can pay the 75 pounds for the latest update and install it and i'll have access? Any ideas? i juust want maps xD https://www.thesatnavshop.com/product-page/toyota-touch-go-1-touch-2-2017-usb-update

    Will this work?!?

Yeah i did see that, i guess you normally find the people leaving those stars are people that are unhappy, most people that are happy with products don't think to leave feedback xD i watched a lot of videos on youtube and reviews and i didn't hear any horror stories Plus its on sale so i like me a bargain xD but yeah i'll update this thread with some pictures of how it looks in the GT86 with a little review myself when its in
  14. Ch1L5t3R

    Will this work?!?

**update** I've picked myself up a new headunit thanks to the advice from this thread I've gone for a good all-rounder as i wanted something that still had the basics (bluetooth, usb, aux, cd/dvd) but also had android car play so i can use google maps etc. I've gone for the Pioneer 8700bt as linked below, Got it at a good price, plus halfords made sure the correct face plate has been ordered to fit it, and will fit it when it arrives in a few days saving me from making any mistakes xD http://www.halfords.com/technology/car-audio/apple-carplay/pioneer-avh-x8700bt-car-stereo-with-apple-carplay-and-android-auto I'm happy that by the reviews of the above product i'm sure i'll be very happy with it But if anyone happens by luck to have the same or simular model and wants to let me know what they think of it would love to hear!

    GR HV Concept GT86

haha i didn't think of that, but now i would never be able to look at it the same :'D
  16. Ch1L5t3R

    GR HV Concept GT86

I personally really like it, i tend to like cars that are a bit out there. Obviously i'd want to drive it before making any conclusions to if it works, but i personally really like the looks both inside and out. If toyota have managed to make a fun to drive hybrid car that can still be around the sub 30k market then i for one will jump on board. As others have said it must be really weird to shift in a manual but not need a clutch... would take a while to get used to i guess Also loving that Fighter Jet style start button xD i'd feel like a 9 year old everytime i start it up haha!

    Will this work?!?

Ah okay no worries, thanks for the heads up. I'll take a look at the options, don't suppose you know what size the head unit is? or is it pretty universal size to look for?

    Few nice photos

Hey all! So just another post now I've finally picked up my gt86. I'll do another post a week or so in with my thoughts etc, but for now will leave you with some nice shots I took of it today after driving around for hours!

    Here she is!

Fair comments thank you. Well considering it is an official toyota dealership who use Genuine Toyota parts, i would hope they do use the OEM Tyre or better, but i will check when i see it tomorrow. If it is budget tyres i will ask them to put better ones on then. Cheers for the quick updates @Steeps

    Here she is!

Hey all o/ So the other day i posted in the Newbies posts to say hello to say i was buying a GT86 at the end of the month, well that time is here and i couldn't be happier to say i officially now own a Toyota GT86! Happy to say its 2013 manual with 32k miles and stunning condition. I unfortunately don't pick it up until tuesday but can now at least say i've driven it, fallen in love already and paid for it! I'm not getting it till tuesday as before i get it my Toyota garage do a 52 point check and will put on 4 brand new tyres, brake pads, put paint protection on it, and check if there is anything else that may need replacing at no cost Can't wait to join you all at the meets and wave at every other GT86 driver i pass o/ Charlie From Milton Keynes

    Picked mine up today

Welcome mate o/ Lovely looking car. I'm just over in Milton keynes and getting mine tomorrow. Look forward to seeing your car at some meets!

    Here she is!

Cheers guys, i will check what tyres they put on. I mean if they are budget ones i doubt they will give me better ones, they probably only stock a certain type of tyre. If they are cheap ones i'll run them for a while but just be careful as i know they wont be as good with grip, and then possibly look to upgrade to winter tyres considering it is getting colder now. At least they are putting something on rather than selling me a car with tyres that would need replacing within months And thanks for all the updates on the Paint protection too. I do note if it is supaguard they do say to do it on fresh paint. I should add what toyota are doing for me first is completly buffing the car to remove any dirt/grime first, and also getting rid of a couple of small scratches so that when they apply the paint protection it is as immaculate as it can be I appreciate this is still a main dealership so of course they are going to talk highly of their services and i could get it elsewhere cheaper or better. But in all honesty i'm just happy its all getting done, and getting done professionally before i get it rather than the hassle of me buying it and then having to do immediate work to it I get it tomorrow so more pics to follow!
