1. Quick one, here's my shopping basket, how does that look? Need a 4mm backing plate as well, it's out of stock on this website.
I've picked liquid wax as well, you don't use hex pads for applying wax, do you? Shouldn't it be one these soft pads?

Looks about right, I've never used valet pro clay bar, I use bilthamber.

Is this the polish you intend to use or are you using it as a wax? It looks like a "cleanser polish" with wax built in, could be a glaze, I don't know the product....

I would use a more dedicated last stage protection over that as if your already polishing you won't need the cleaning/glazes of that polish/wax, I mean it'll be fine but there are better products to use. I can't really advice as I've only used paste waxes/sealants by hand.

2. Yep, catted manifolds and track work don't seem to mix well. From what I'd read before I knew it was likely to be a case of when and not if for it failing so it wasn't altogether unexpected.
Yeah, how does the standard manifold hold up from your research?

3. I had a few exhaust tweeks done at Rogue Motorsport this week the main one of which was swapping the 2nd oem cat for a high flow item. While Rogue were doing the work they found that the cat in my JDL manifold had come out and got itself rammed into the overpipe! They replaced the overpipe for me and also reworked the catted manifold to make it into a catless version.

Couple of pictures below:-

And the reworked manifold and high flow sports cat in place:-

Below is a video clip of the car at startup and low speed manoeuvring (not a cold start):-

And a video running through the rev range:-

The video below is how it previously sounded recorded using the same camera and mic set up:-

As you can see it's a little louder now but not massively so. I'm not sure how it'll get on with Bedford's noise limits but I had a reasonable amount of headroom before so I'm hoping it'll be OK. If not then I'll look to have a resonator added to the second cat pipe.

Oops!! 🤣🤣

4. You have to be 25 plus and am 23. If i get a family member to drive for me i will get a feel for it , or just hire them 2 cars out for a day or two and see what they are like to drive

This must be a new rule? I yes drove 3 86's at 3 different dealerships, Colne Derby and Nottingham, with no issue and I was 24 at the time.

5. But it doesn't have anywhere near the same level of comfort or convenience, the 86 is archaic inside compared to a MK7 GTI. Yes it's not as fun, but it certainly has more, easily accessible performance and comfort.
However, a GTI doesn't do skids like a GT86 and that's what really matters
Yeah I guess, I've never been one for German styling.

6. Beacuse of my age i can't test drive them. I was all up for the c class and gti. Then i started to think.

The c class is just for comfort and that's all, not full to drive
The gti is a all rounder but where I live its associated with drug dealers. That what put me off it and because of that insurance is really high

Then i seen the gt86 i dont know why but something about this car made me fall in love with it. From the outside it got the looks. To me looks 10x better then the c class and gti.
Inside not so much but i can do things to improve it.

Its not technology advanced like the other two.

What am looking in a car is a car that is fun to drive, but that also has good looks and and easy to live with.

The 86 is very easy to live with, the only thing is more than 1 passenger. But with the rear seats down you can fit alot of stuff in, very convenient for DIY trips

7. I've always found the shift on my car (especially into 2nd) to be a little problematic when it's cold.
I saw someone in an American group who fitted a shifter extension and said it made a massive difference. A quick look on ebay revealed this would cost me a whole £2.20 to try so I ordered one.
will300 tried it in his car and was impressed enough to order one for himself which I know he's had fitted for a few days now and is still a fan.
I definitely prefer the shift with the extender on when the cars cold but possibly prefer the non extender shift when it's warm. In the original post I'd seen they combined the shifter extension with a short shifter and I can see how this would be a perfect combination.
If you've got a slightly reluctant gearbox and can live with the look then I'd say it's £2.20 well spent!
I think your over compensating..... 🤣

8. Is a DA not suited for that or just an overkill?
Sure, if you don't mind. Let me get my orders in and I could pop in.

Although I think you'd have to show me on yours, unless we did all the prep work to remove the road muck, when I come over...
Yeah, good point. Overkill for paste waxes, you need to use so little and have to keep putting the applicator back into the tub often so you don't overload the applicator.

Liquid based products on the DA

9. Oh applying wax.... Get some small foam applicators and apply using small circles, real thin coats, like as thin as you can, you can't get too thin, leave it for the time on the wax instructions and buff off using a good Microfibre.

I normally do two panels. Once I've finished panel 2 panel 1 is normally good to buff and then once panel one is buffed panel 2 is ready to buff. Rinse and repeat.

What wax are you using?

10. Yes, I use a das6 pro with those pads and backing plate.

Start with a finishing Polish and that green pad and see how you go! As long as you don't smack the machine/plate into the panel you'll be fine.

Also Pro tips keep the chord looped over your shoulder so it doesn't bash the car plus get yourself some tape to put on the trim/badges so you don't damage them with the polish and machine.

11. What's the difference between different coloured pads? And how many will I be using?

Are there any other accessories that are a must have when you use a polisher?

So I have some experience with a DA but by no means a pro. I'm guessing you know the basics.

A 3" backing plate is almost essential along with equivalent pads to polish things like the spoiler, details on the front bumper, wing mirrors etc.

So the pads differ in firmness (is that a word?) the firmer the pad the harsher the cut as it will press the abrasive into the paint harder (if you maintain the same arm pressure) black is a finishing pad, good for glazes and fine polishes, green is a moderate polish pad good for most polishing duties on the 86 and orange is a cutting/heavy polish pad I haven't had to you this yet still sealed in the package but I've never gone for 100% perfection free.

I haven't tried to do a whole car in one as it is longer than I have patience to work on a cars paintwork but one of each pad in both sizes is good for doing 1-3 panels, don't see why you can't do the whole car... But you need to clean the polish out the pad after each panel.

A panel wipe is pretty much essential to remove any fillers post polishing to inspect your work along with a high powered led torch.

Make sure you decontaminate fully before polishing.

Oh and a few decent Microfibre to remove polish residue and buff after panel wipe.

Anything else fire away!!

12. Looks legitimate matey, I like chemical guys hex logic pads, orange green and black. You'll find with the gt86 soft paint that a finishing Polish with the green pad will get all the swirls out but you will need more aggression for the random deep scratches. I use menzerna but lots of people use meguires. If they are still liquid I'm sure they are fine.

14. Sorry to hear of your predicament mate. I have used Chemical guys gear before but never ordered from them direct, I must admit I do not rate their gear that highly, there is alot of hype to them.

Where are you based? is it near midlands? I use Shopnshine.co.uk for my stuff and I go straight to their depot. Very good customer service and you can get a detailing world discount DW75 I think it's 7.5% off.

15. I used to have this problem when it was new. It would keep cranking over for what seemed ages before it fired up. I got told that Subaru engines are common for this as the fuel sometimes drains back. Was told to put it in ignition for a few seconds to start the fuel pump then start it. I’ve never had a problem since.🤷🏼‍♂️
Great thanks Gary, haven't had the issue again yet. Rich at Macclesfield said he will take a look at it next Friday with my service.
