  1. I have Ksport bbk and are great value and really good. These are curved vanes as these are based on AP. Don't get me wrong AP and stoptech are the mutts nuts but I rate highly of KSPORT just need a good pad
Do you have Ksports front only? And if so which rear rotors do you have and has it affected bias much?
Also do you have experience/ views with different pads on KSports and your preference for road and track set up?
    Thanks

  3. Castle Combe circuit revealed the dates for 2018 action days

    https://castlecombecircuit.co.uk/news/castle-combe-revs-up-for-2018-action-days/

and they have an offer of 2 tickets + 1 track session (15 mins) for £45

    https://castlecombecircuit.co.uk/offers/action-day-ticket-track-session/

Here is the list of selected events:

    1) Spring Action Day - Saturday, 7th April

Acting as a ‘season opener’ for many car enthusiasts, Spring Action Day returns on Saturday 7th of April to set the tone for another electrifying year of motoring shows. Focusing on performance cars both old and new, be sure not to miss this kick-start to 2018!

    2) JDM Combe - Saturday, 2nd June

Another event that returns for a second year is JDMCombe, which this time around will be held on Saturday 2nd June. From Honda Civics to Nissan Skylines, if it’s Japanese you’ll probably find it here! Huge drifting displays and themed show car stands are some of the highlights of this spectacular event.

    3) Summer Action Festival - Saturday, 7th July

Summer Action Festival will take to the circuit on Saturday 7th July – the all-action bonanza celebrating cars of all ages, all makes and all models! With specific areas for classic, kit, performance and modified cars, you’d be hard-pressed finding a more eclectic mix of vehicles than here.

    4) Forge Action Day - Saturday, 8th September

Finishing the year’s string of multi-marque events in style is Forge Action Day – set to be held on Saturday 8th September. Here, performance cars are put in the spotlight with high-speed track demonstrations and a huge trade village offering up car parts bargains.

Would be nice to have a club stand and see a decent turnout next time :) (proud grey GT86 & awesome blue BRZ were the only representatives at 2017 Forge Day)

And may be a track day:

(I will aim for April or May if I get enough practice on simpler circuits before then...)

  4. Thanks for the feedback. I am not planning on putting racing buckets or multi-point belts, so HANS is not an option I am considering. I have looked at Simpson hybrid sport harness as an alternative if i decide to track more, apparently it works even with 3 point belt.

There isnt really a motorsports store close by (at least i couldn't google one up in South East close to Wimbledon), so i might go and check it out while I am at Silverstone.

  5. Booked next track day at Silverstone on Nov 26th.

Thinking whether to buy my own helmet. Any recommendations?

I have tried Bell and Arai. Bell seem good but I cant decide whether to go for M or L.

Will inside mould a bit after few days?

I know people say get the most expensive you can afford, but for few (novice) track days hard to justify 400-500+ pounds.

  6. Ended up going with Sky for GT86. They came down on price a bit and although still more expensive than main insureinsurers i decided to pay for an option of having mods added later on.

But, frankly, Sky was the only specialist insurance broker I had on the shortlist left.

(DL for Lexus as they were cheapest and seem ok when i called them with questions).

Well, thats insurance sorted for 1 more year.

Not sure if I would want this discussion every time i change pads...

Do people really tell their insurer when they fit different brake pads? I really had no idea.

I would guess not, but reading the small print (and from experience I'd say it would not hurt) it says "any" modifications from manufacturer standard... as a minimum i would inform the insurance company that the call is recorded, note time and date and clearly confirm what changed either do not need to be declared (pads, tyres, wheels...) or will not result in an increase in premium.

  8. If you're going to mod, avoid a mainstream insurer. Not worth the hassle down the line.

    Thanks

Just had a call also with Admiral (my current insurer). They did try to match the cheaper quotes (not there but close), but my question about potential mods made the rest of discussion very amusing.

Interestingly they must have some guidance from underwriters (for example also said that wheels and suspension mods will cost nothing extra if lowered by no more than 5sm) but anything not on that "list" needs to be discussed with underwriters.

  9. I changed from 1.6L auris to gt-86 as my daily driver only 4 months into a policy with direct line. They charged £65 extra for the remaining 8months (I have business class 1 insurance) so I have put any after market mods (declared sat Nav, rear parking sensors and leather interior as these as not standard on a gt-86) on hold until renewal

My supercharged gen7 celica is with green light who did me a really competitive price at a similar price to my Auris which sky couldn't get anywhere near so left them. It better be the same this year or I will move insurers again

Well, Greenlight thinks Wimbledon has lot of dodgy drivers claiming on their "under 20k" policies. Well, with all the Porsches around and very few modified cars (i have seen 1 that might be under 20k) I dont know, but they told me no.

  10. And another update

Sky - could not insure Lexus. About 40% more expensive than cheapest quote from main insurers (although smaller excess ). No cost for mods not increasing power (apart from £25 admin fee), fairly reasonable cost for modest (up to 20hp) increase (well, no FI for now).

Direct line - cheapest quote for Lexus, extra discount for 2nd car (although not the cheapest overall). Told me changing wheels and keeping same level of cover does not need to be declared. Spend a lot of time on the phone talking about increase in premium if i upgrade brake discs and change suspension/ lower the car (for some reason they keep asking whether mods will be done by the manufacturer - i guess this can only mean authorised dealer in the UK). Estimate came to less than £50 higher than original quote (but I may call again to double check tomorrow).

If i consider non power mods the difference between Sky and DL is just over £110.

Do i save me some headache in the future and go with Sky?

And considering Greenlight dont want to insure me in SW19, no luck finding insurance with track days included...

  11. Thought I would share some experience as well...

I have 2 cars (the other is Lexus NX), 12yrs no claims. Had GT86 for 5mth, time to renew insurance. Plan to drive 3-4k miles p.a with occasional track day. No mods at this point (will not have any power mods yet apart from filter, will change wheels and tyres though next year).

Greenlight - told me they do not insure in SW19 (one of the safest affluent areas in London).

Chris Knott - told me i need to own the car for at least a year before qualifying for main underwriters. Quote was nearly 2x of my renewal quite (more than 2x of best i can get using comparison website).

Adrian Flux - more than 2x more expensive than best quote i can get using comparison website.

Not impressed... will do couple more calls...

  12. Hi guys, can I ask for opinions on tow hooks/ straps.

Do you typically fit both front and back? Do you prefer a hook or a strap, and why? Any recommendations?

Based on the quick Google search looks like hooks are more straightforward and some look decent enough to leave permanently. Straps do look nice (IMO) but require bumper removal to fix into sub frame, right?

  13. Glad you enjoyed it, no point having cars like ours and not use them to their full potential and you can't really do that on the road.

I've thought about Bedford too as it's not that far compared to others. I stick with sprinting for now, but quite a few of them are just to far.

Bedford is very good to start with (as was highlighted by quite a few people here), combination of fast and slow corners, lots of run off, I also felt marshals were rather good (though i am sure few chaps banned for noise would disagree).

Its also long enough to be interesting and once you split it into sections you challenge yourself where you feel more confident.

The only part i didnt particularly like was 2 straights with chicane between them. Even if you carry decent speed out of the corner, our cars are just too slow to accelerate (i could just about reach 110 ish before i had to brake again). But "slow(er)" corners are fab, I often noticed i was getting back closer to M3 on coeners that was overtaking me on straight.

    I'll definitely do it again

  14. Great first track day at Bedford.

Started slow. Quite a lot of cars (eager drivers) in the first session, but them I was pretty much the slowest on track to start with.

Took me nearly till the lunch to learn the track, corners and lines (well, nearly). Very pleased with my instructor (Steve Mansell) - started with quite a lot of info and detailed instructions and progressively concentrating on mistakes and where most noticeable improvements can be made.

Then progressed to more spirited driving in the afternoon, enjoyed a very good few laps on my own (even managed not to be s cared to overtake little Clios).

Last session spoiled a bit by some inconsiderate idiots trying to squeeze in last few laps and overtaking on both sides, and into corners 🤢.

Need to start planning next track day. Oh, and my brakes started to squeak , and 2 small chips on the front glass

  16. I was looking for insurance had a qoute from them and they were very help following recommendation from Keith. Which included modifications etc but I did ring round a few of the the other insurers who offer modification insurance.

I ended up going with Adrian Flux as they were the same as  Greenlight price and included breakdown recovery and they can includ track day and competition insurance where Greenlight only offer track day. They included all modifications and was fully comp for two drivers and usual two week cooling off period if you find a better quote.

They also offer club discount and don't restrict cover up to car value of £20,000.

If there are any other wheelchair users on the forum they also cover wheelchair damage/replacement in the event of accident plus hand control adaptations to vehicle.

I would of gone with Greenlight as they very helpful and the cheapest but Adrian Flux matched and included additional items.

Thats interesting. I called them few months back just trying to find out which companies offer insurance with track days included or with discounts for track days and was told they dont offer this.

Well, will find out if couple weeks time.

    Thanks again
