  1. I found that only Recaro can fit in the back with sufficient space for the front passenger or driver (just about). I have Recaro sport hero.

Also, I could not fit seat with isofix properly, but as seats are sloping slightly downwards Recaro fitted in quite nicely and seems fairly secure.

And the little one loves it (the car).

  2. Thanks for the detailed responses guys, in terms of tuition the CATD guys seem to be very pricey? I saw something like a Day was £800 a while back? Is this better than an instructor on a track day? I’m happy to spend where it’s best placed but don’t want to pay more than I need to / get less than I need so that’s my main concern.
In terms of upgrades I probably won’t do any, I have an aero car if that makes literally any performance difference, other than that I plan to change cars in 3 years and would rather spend the cash on track days and consumables, though I suppose that could change as I get in to it. I will be sure to pick up helmet and gloves after a few times.
for insurance do you mean it decreases the more experience you have? Or you buy a package of cover?
Min quite happy to go to Bedford to start as it’s local and I’ve been there before, so it’s  just a case of what form/format do I persue to learn what to do effectively that I’m trying to pin down
Re CATD: I think its worth it regardless of your experience. Club days were much cheaper than that and there were 6 of us and 2 instructors. I also thought 1:1 is expensive, but 2:1 or 3:1 was a good combination of theory, practice and and also looking what more experienced drivers tend to focus on. Its quite different to track day tuition with a lot more focus on car control, what happens to it depending on drivers input, etc.
I have not tried Carlimits (yet), but few people also recommended them.

Re insurance: I think its both. My first 2 days come to smth like £300ish, then single day quote was around £100-115 per day, but booking 5 was more like £80 per day. I arranged it through Morris. The policy valid for a year and for £15 I can change future trackdays.
Greenline does policies with additional track day cover on pay as you go basis for £45 (if I recall correctly), but they couldn't insure me at all.

I am going to Bedford again on Feb 10th, would be nice to see another GT86

  3. Not that I have much experience (yet), but when I started few month ago:

    1) Get some training!
I had couple days with CATD (first with my work buddy who does more frequent track days and another with this car club). Over couple days Colin gave me enough confidence to go on track and actually understand (well, at least a bit) what is happening with the car.
I intend to get more once I do couple more track days (trail braking, left foot braking - lot more to learn and practice in my case).

    2) Start with an easy track
Guys here have a lot more experience and can provide better comments, but I found Bedford very good and easy to start with (may be a bit boring once you get more track time) and Silverstone also quite good with decent run off and long enough to be interesting (although it felt somewhat crowded at times).
Definitely get some tuition. If you can afford get a whole day - i found splitting instructor day with someone very useful and reasonably cost effective. (Although next time I will get 3 sessions with instructor instead).

    3) Insurance is a good idea
My first was fairly expensive, but after couple track days I could get 5 days insurance for about £80 per day.
I found that premium difference between 15k and 20k insurance was relatively small but then jumped quite a bit steeper (go figure), so consider partial cover a good idea.

    4) Go stock for starters
(To be fair I only followed this advice for 6mth ).
First time on a new track I personally found difficult to concentrate for more than 15mins, and learning race line took me a while so it was not the car but the driver (me) which was the limiting factor.

    5) If you end up planning more track days get your own helmet and boots.
I bought my helmet aftet couple track days and trying couple different ones. I thought Sparco were fairly reasonably priced. But definitely try few before deciding- even same size feel differently (particularly if one has oddly shaped head or ears).
I also bought boots on sale (could not resist 1/2 price offer for my size, even though they are blue). The pedal feel is so much different to trainers.

I was pretty much the slowest on track, but it doesnt matter much as long as you enjoy yourself and initial learning curve and progess you make you love the car even more!

  4. SOLD

Selling my stock wheels with original Primacies tyres.

Been on a car from delivery in June 2017. 2.5k miles (including 2 track days).

Good condition. Very minor curbing mark on one wheel (1st photo, barely noticeable). Tyres nearly new (my first 2 track days, was easy on brakes).

Selling as I got new 18" wheels and decided I dont need a spare set of 17".

  5. Thanks Lauren, sounds like what I am after. Good to know it is future proof too. Main thing keeping me away from going straight to FI is it is then a slippery slope of other supporting mods once you start increasing heat etc especially when using it on track.

Just navigated to the Tuning developments section on here and found the big thread also  Answered a lot of my questions regarding DB readings etc as well. Present to myself in the new year I feel. Was temped by Abbeys ACE setup but this seems a lot more cost effective.
I should be able to share "pre" and "post" TD NA tune experience after I do a track day at Bedford in Feb (will be rather subjective and based on limited track experience though).

  6. If you just go for the TD manifold you'll be alright.
I have an FA20club manifold which is a very similar design, Cobra overpipe and the rest of the exhaust is oem. This gives me readings between 75-78db when tested.
Cool, thanks. Will measure noise level when I get the car back. Fingers crossed

  7. Thanks guys

Have not considered noise limit. I will measure it after TD NA tune and then can decide.

Its pretty close to me and (at least on videos) looks like a good circuit.

I will be going to Bedford in Feb and Brands in March. Cant wait...

  8. Hello good people,

Can I ask more experienced forum members of their views on Thruxton circuit as a track day?

And also, hopefully not a controversial topic, opinions on TDOs?

I only had experience with MSV and Opentrack. Opentrack was at Silverstone and while it was very enjoyable being on track with McLarens, Astons and Ferraris at times it was somewhat crowded with waiting times in the pits.

I have heard Gold Track allow less cars and although they are more expensive some friends say its worth it.

    Appreciate your thoughts

  9. Lets do one after new year? I will be definitely up to it. Above suggestions look good but smth further south would also work well.

If you end up meeting around Christmas lets do another in Jan anyway

  11. Good place to try on helmets in the Midlands?

Sent from my STF-L09 using Tapatalk

I just tried few on track days to see. Frankly was not that much of a difference - Bell was somewhat less comfortable in M (but L was too loose), and I found Sparco fitted me well and my ears didnt hurt after a whole day on in it. Sparco also has several different M sizes, so it was a bit easier to choose.

But if you cant find a shop close by (I couldn't), I'd say try few at track days and then order online from somewhere with good returns policy.

  12. Helmet sorted as well now, ready for 2018...

My GT86 is going to get some nice Christmas presents thanks to Mike@TD.co.uk and Lucas@Partbox.

Looking to decide on next track day - either Bedford again or Brands in February.

Would want to try TD NA tune asap while I still remember how stock car behaved.

I also want to try CarLimits, but taking a day off in Jan or Feb will be challenging 20b0cb602ed0d2beca61f539a67e0a36.jpg

  13. Had a great day at Silverstone last Sunday with Opentrack. As with Bedford took me some time to get used to the circuit and learn the lines, and it was a bit crowded (with all the expensive supercars around was not entirely comfortable getting close to them :) ). But what a fantastic circuit, definitely worth the extra money.

Got a bit too brave in early afternoon and ended up turning through astroturf into Arena couple times (each time 1st lap from the pits), but all was fine and stayed all the way till dawn.

Managed to overtake McLaren P1 (well, he was doing cooling lap :) , but still - shame had no video or photo).

Great day, time to plan next one...

  14. Well, MSV also has few options on Dec 16th... Bedford is £119... I thought I was done for 2017 after doing Silly track day this Sunday (separate update to follow), but still tempted...

MSV now has dates released till end of Feb, so if anyone is up for a Saturday or Sunday track day in Feb at Bradford or Brands please let me know

  15. What are these events like? Is there chance we can all park together?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Supercar PHSS was cool, thats the only one I attended (wanted to go to Silly but was on holiday that weekend). Dont think we will be able to park together unless we meet somewhere in advance and then arrive together.

  16. Aww, I really need to block myself from accessing this forum, I can't look at this stuff anymore; it's torture. I need to save for a house!
Shame TD is so far from me, maybe I buy my house within 10 mile radius of TD
I am getting one + couple more mods. Already booked with Mike and can't wait...

    The slippery slope has started
