    JDM Combe - June 2, 2018

Club bookings have been extended but will close 9am on Wednesday (tomorrow)! For those who enjoyed Japfest at Silverstone on Sunday or have missed it, this is another "Japanese only" action day. Not aiming for 72 cars, but would be nice to have more than few. I'll bring muffins...

  5. I can exchange quite a few nearly new stock parts for few of those on your list[emoji6]... Does not have to be the same ones either. Are you seriously planning to take it apart? Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  6. Dont know the part number, but took it to Toyota and was told it needs to be shipped from Japan and I will get my replaced end on May. Annoying, but I am happy to wait. In the meantime I put some acf50. When I get a receipt will share the part number if its on it. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

    1st track day

Opentrack has a day at Silly in November. I am planning on taking it as last track day for 2018[emoji3], not too keen on December... Btw - good luck with the race!!! Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

    1st track day

Ok, so time to plan 1st track day. What are people recommendations close to London? I dont want to start with Brands Hatch as it was scary busy when I was there last time. Goodwood and Castle Combe probably too technical for an inexperienced driver like me. Silly or Bedford? Both just under 2hrs drive from home so doable as a day trip. And what are peoples view of MVS track academy? Worth for a whole day or better to book couple 20 mins tuition sessions instead? And finally, am I correct to assume I should be fine with fully stock car for first couple of track days before primacies wear out and brake pads and fluid need an upgrade (not planning to go for fast laps, building confidence and consistency more important to start with)? Many thanks Vadim Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

    1st track day

Thank you. Bedford is very good to start with for a novice. I would definitely recommend as a 1st or 2nd track day. Although its long and takes few sessions to get used to (and 2 long straights get a bit boring after a while in 200hp car). I have got a few mid week days reserved of work this year, so would be up for a "GT 86 track day" at Bedford (or may be even Donny where I can drive up to late evening and stay close overnight). Snetterton is also ok for a novice. Even though it has walls and tyre posts in few places, I felt that couple ares where you can make a mistake (like car in front of me at Murrays) are fairly forgiving with enough run off. I would definitely like to do it again, but its just much further than Bedford, Brands or Silverstone for me. I have Castle Combe on the list next. Booked for August when my family is away [emoji6]. 1st track day

Managed to get 2 track days in as many weeks "in lieu" of 2 days cancelled due to winter. (1) Bedford again on April 14th Had a good family friend with me for his first track day (instead of cancelled Silverstone), so Bedford with lots of run off and close to North London was perfect. Had couple sessions with instructor, played with Tiens set-up for a few shorter sessions and most of the afternoon ended up chatting and drinking coffee/ eating chocolate. More like a social rather than a track day, but considering it was first properly warm spring weekend it felt great to be out all day enjoying yourselves and few sessions on track. Palmers got our their Formula 3000 for hot laps @ £35 and despite good weather it we had I think only around 45 cars (with few extra drivers and quite a few giving passenger laps). Definitely need more practice getting gears right though. On the long straights I rarely got to 5th and in manual ended up barely going over 100mph (in auto its 110ish). (2) Snetterton on April 17th Managed to get a day off work to try mid-week track day at Snetterton. Its a long way from South London: morning took me nearly 2 1/2 hrs (with quick re-fuel stop) but full 3hrs on the way back in the evening. Certainly not a day trip (unlike Brands, Silverstone or Bedford that I can easily do in a day). But the track itself is very enjoyable - decent run off in the areas where you may need it (Wilson, Agostini), track is long enough to be interesting (not like Brands where after 15 laps my head starts to spin) and the combination of corners and straights of different length make it quite interesting and challenging, certainly 1st time for an inexperience track day driver. I found Brundle and Nelson somewhat tricky and think this is the corner combination I almost never got right in the entire day, always ended up going too slow towards the Bombhole. But then Coram is just fantastic - my favourite part of any circuits I've been at so far - going at 75 mph you can feel that adding couple more mphs your car will start to slide and then braking into Murrays and getting the line and exit speed right into Senna straight makes a massive difference. Then Riches that you can take in 4th at speed (it took me good part of whole day to be brave enough to do it though) before properly braking for Wilson. I could not get Wilson right most of the time, with too narrow exit not using all tarmac and meaning the car was at its grip limit at rather lower speed turning in too sharply. Tried both auto and manual. In manual most of the track is in 3rd or 4th, few corners times like Wilson going down to 2nd and Bently straight occasionally to 5th. Harry laptimer showed best lap at 2:42, although I only properly put it for 2 sessions and think I afternoon was probably better. Well, next time will aim for 2:30ish. A bit more details in my blog now with video from Snetterton I have already booked few track days in August (will tray Castle Combe and evening session at Brands), but its too long to wait... need to find some time and company for end of May or June...

    JDM Combe - June 2, 2018

Ask Admin, but I had a pleasure of joining club stand at Tunerfest before I become a premium member (frankly talking to club members in person was one of the reasons [emoji16]) last year. Btw - club stand booking deadline is May 4th. Unless anyone objects I am happy to put our details on the website. 5, 6 of us? Or shall we aim for few more? Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

Another great roadtrip in the GT86

Should ask you for some tips then[emoji6]... Although I am hoping for first continental outing to Spa next spring[emoji2] Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  18. My auto is 82-82.5 db with TD EL, 2nd cat and stock exhaust. Consistently on different track days at Bedford and Snetterton. But 96 with turbo would be too much for my liking. Looking forward to seeing what people have at Japfest, should be interesting [emoji16]. And great write up🖒. Thanks Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

Another great roadtrip in the GT86

Here is a great road if you have not been there before www.grossglockner.at/gg/en/index. 🖒 I only wish I can convince my family 4 of us can fit in GT86 for a long drive to Europe [emoji848]... otherwise its a usual rental from Munich Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

  21. I have already sprayed it wirh acf50 (nice and oily), but the strip itself just gets looser (not sure if its visible on the photo, may be will take another tomorrow with open bonnet). Will call Toyota, luckily there is a dealership less than 2 miles away. Smth to do for the weekend... Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  22. Sorry, reviving this Does anyone have a part number or link to replacement seal? I put some acf50 and current one just peels off leaving gap when i close the bonnet. Thinking I should either superglue it back to metal or replace altogether. May need to call Toyota to ask. Its disappointing considering the car in not even 1y old[emoji54]... and my right pillar trim is coming off as well, more glue? [emoji856]. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

    Driving an Auto

I drive auto GT86. In full auto no need to lift off, although if you can do left foot braking (which I am struggling with, at least so far [emoji52]) understeering in corners much easier to deal with. With paddle shifters I don't lift either but in GT 86 in slower corners lower gears and higher revs is important (at Brands I ended up few times in higher gear than I should have). Touch2 connection charges warning

My does the same when auto reconnecting to phone's Bluetooth (i selected touch 2 as trusted connection). I just keep pressing the button on screen to acknowledge it[emoji5]. But it was like this from the day I got my GT86 nearly a year ago... Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
  25. Castle Combe circuit revealed the dates for 2018 action days https://castlecombecircuit.co.uk/news/castle-combe-revs-up-for-2018-action-days/ and they have an offer of 2 tickets + 1 track session (15 mins) for £45 https://castlecombecircuit.co.uk/offers/action-day-ticket-track-session/ Here is the list of selected events: 1) Spring Action Day - Saturday, 7th April Acting as a ‘season opener’ for many car enthusiasts, Spring Action Day returns on Saturday 7th of April to set the tone for another electrifying year of motoring shows. Focusing on performance cars both old and new, be sure not to miss this kick-start to 2018! 2) JDM Combe - Saturday, 2nd June Another event that returns for a second year is JDMCombe, which this time around will be held on Saturday 2nd June. From Honda Civics to Nissan Skylines, if it’s Japanese you’ll probably find it here! Huge drifting displays and themed show car stands are some of the highlights of this spectacular event. 3) Summer Action Festival - Saturday, 7th July Summer Action Festival will take to the circuit on Saturday 7th July – the all-action bonanza celebrating cars of all ages, all makes and all models! With specific areas for classic, kit, performance and modified cars, you’d be hard-pressed finding a more eclectic mix of vehicles than here. 4) Forge Action Day - Saturday, 8th September Finishing the year’s string of multi-marque events in style is Forge Action Day – set to be held on Saturday 8th September. Here, performance cars are put in the spotlight with high-speed track demonstrations and a huge trade village offering up car parts bargains. Would be nice to have a club stand and see a decent turnout next time (proud grey GT86 & awesome blue BRZ were the only representatives at 2017 Forge Day) And may be a track day: https://castlecombecircuit.co.uk/car-track-days/ (I will aim for April or May if I get enough practice on simpler circuits before then...)
