    Lowering Advice

I have H&R Super Sport progressive springs with the stock dampers. The total lowering is about 30-35mm, which is perfect for a car which is my daily driver. The ride quality is a little firmer but really very good indeed and quite comfortable. The car corners flat and there is no harshness or knocking over potholes. I learned from my previous car that good springs are better than cheap coilovers. I'll stand by that.
  2. On the other hand, an Auris with 180bhp!! Watch out for the men with hats driving them...

    Bang goes another windscreen

At least they're laminated these days. I had a toughened windscreen go on me once, now that's an underpants moment.

Bringing an 86 back from the dead

You're a brave man! Will you be looking for scrappy parts to keep the costs down, or using new parts?

    Our Cars in the Snow

Well, I'll be getting some winter tyres soon. The drive home last night was horrible, the M3 was slushy and I needed a push through the village and then got well and truly stuck in the snow on the single track country lane leading home. No amount of second gear rocking could get it up the gentle incline. Ended up abandoning it at the side close to home. Going to have to assess whether I can move it tonight.

Thanks - pricy, though. Anyone tried Avon WV7 or Kumho WP71?

    Painting carbon fibre bonnet

Try to find a body/paint shop that does subcontract work for the dealership. Cheaper, but they do good quality work and get the correctly matched paint for the job.

    Painting carbon fibre bonnet

I had the Seibon CF bonnet on my CR-Z prepared and painted in genuine matching Honda paint for around £300.

    Cosmetic mods - suggestions please

I tend to think less is more. Our cars look damned good as they are. You already have nice wheels, centre caps should remain dark. I've ordered some black Subaru logo centre caps as mine are Rota ones which came with the wheels. You could get some Toyota logo valve caps?! Oh, and it's always fun finding a nice key-ring on eBay.

    Why gt86

That's the best advice. If you're in the Basingtoke area I'll gladly meet up to give you a ride.

Your choice at the end of the day. Good luck with it.

    Why gt86

How old is the BMW 6 cylinder engine? They still use it because it's a superb design, age has nothing to do with it. I ran all three BMWs for high mileage and I have great respect for them. They are good at what they do, but they distance you from the driving experience. Oh, and they're not particularly reliable, either.

    Why gt86

I don't really understand comments like archaic or low technology. Coming from BMW 540i, 530d and 335d Coupe, I find the BRZ cabin just as comfortable and the seats by far the best of any car I've driven. Technology? An NA 2.0 petrol with port and rail fuel injection developing 200bhp with decent economy and runs smoothly. What's old tech about that? Finally, the car looks twice as good as my 335d did and costs just half as much.

    Why gt86

Mercedes for old men not interested in driving. GTI competent but quite dull. GT86 - you know what we're going to say?

    Your Fuel Economy?

Ah, the good old M3. I'll keep a lookout for you.

    GT86 Gearboxes

I have the 3rd to 2nd issue, worse when cold but never completely gone and can sometimes be irritating when crawling in traffic. 2nd to 3rd doesn't cause me any problems, though.

    Your Fuel Economy?

Or in my case the absolutely infectious supercharger whistle!

    Your Fuel Economy?

When I upgraded my CR-Z to FI with a supercharger (and remapped the ECU), my economy improved from about 38mpg to 43mpg. FI often makes the engine more efficient and economical as long as all that extra power is not used all of the time.

    Tyres???

Falken Azenis FK-510 XL all round. Pretty damned good so far and very cheap from ProTyre (who import them).

    Gt86 price

Here are 12 nearly new BRZs, nearly all dealer cars. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-search?advertising-location=at_cars&search-target=usedcars&is-quick-search=true&radius=&onesearchad=nearlynew&make=SUBARU&model=BRZ&price-search-type=total-price&price-from=&price-to= You get the price down by offering a cash deal there and then, otherwise you'll walk away and look at the next one on your list.

    Gt86 price

There are a good few low mileage ex-demo cars available in Autotrader. Now is ripe for cutting a deal, and demo cars are well known for being high spec.

    Tyre pressure monitoring system

Good thinking. I'll order them and get ProTyre to do them the next time I need tyres.

    Tyre pressure monitoring system

I see that I can get a replacement set of sensors from Amazon here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B073QLP1KM/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I1BBY3N1E9DBJ5&colid=26S5ZKB07Z4DC&psc=0 Question is, do I still need to get them programmed by a dealer after installation?
