    Problem With Heat Wrap

I certainly did, with heat reflective wrap rather than the stuff around the exhaust.

    Remap?

The TD NA kit will save you money and give you better performance. As for sound, with no primary cat it's going to be louder but that depends on how noisy your cat-back is. Keep your secondary cat in place otherwise you'll never pass the MOT.

    Problem With Heat Wrap

It's going to have to be, I see no way of opening up more of a gap. To be honest, it was closer before and took a year to become a problem. Now that there's no rubbing it should last longer. Be sure that I'll be monitoring it closely.

    Problem With Heat Wrap

Top hose now replaced, wrapped and twisted so that I have a 7mm air gap. I'm so glad I saw through replacing it, look what the exhaust had done to the underside of the original.

Ditto here, the NA package is the way to go.

TD in Warrington. Sent from my LG-Q6 using Tapatalk
  7. With sales like that I think we can say goodbye to a Mk.II.
  8. All they would need to do is get rid of the torque dip and increase power by 20-30bhp. It wouldn't impact Supra sales, they would still be very different cars. Question is: did the GT86/BRZ ever sell as well as they had wanted?

    Problem With Heat Wrap

Just the top hose, which was still more expensive than buying a complete hose kit on eBay from China! I'll do my best to twist fit it to open up the gap as much as possible. It'll still only be a few mm, though.

    Problem With Heat Wrap

It was hard to do a neat repair with the top hose in place. I've now ordered a replacement from Subaru and will wrap it neatly, and re-do the exhaust, before I fit it.
  11. I'm not convinced by the looks, it's a bit loud for me. However, if you have ever driven a BMW with a 6-pot engine you will know that it's one of the most silky smooth and superb power units out there. Lovely sound, too. Not light, though.

    Problem With Heat Wrap

Thanks. I just tried Toyota and got a load of jobsworth telling me that I had to have a Toyota registration plate or chassis number to be able to order a part. No amount of my telling her that it's the same car would budge her. Grrr!

    Problem With Heat Wrap

Yes, I guess I'll have to pop over to Bulldog Twyford (Subaru) and collect one. It's not ideal so I was hoping to have one delivered. I've just had an idea: there is a Toyota dealership in Basingstoke. That might be a lot more convenient.

    Problem With Heat Wrap

Gosh, all I can find online is a complete set of radiator hoses from China. Does anyone know of a UK/EU retailer selling these items individually? And no, I don't want a silly red one with a brand name on it costing £125!

    Problem With Heat Wrap

Did the fix just now. The wrap is almost impossible to cut without fraying but I've done my best. Two layers around the exhaust, spiral layer around the top hose. I'm going to order a new top hose as I'm not sure I liked what the heat has done to it. Better to replace it to be sure. I may be able to experiment more when I reposition a new one so as to create a better gap.

    Problem With Heat Wrap

Yes, that looks much closer to my exact setup. I see Mike used the titanium exhaust heat wrap on both pipes - I shall do the same. Thanks for the confirmation! P.S. I also have the same TD intake pipe.

    Problem With Heat Wrap

Thanks for the offer, Mike. However, it's a 7 hour round trip for me so I'll keep that in my back pocket for now. Good to know that the gap is a bit close compared with the norm. Unfortunately, the heat wrap never arrived despite my paying for next day delivery. I put a claim into eBay and got a message saying they had tried to deliver to work at some very late time and no-one was there. No shit! I'll be OK using the car minimally and doing the repair on Monday. The few mm gap I opened up by twisting the top hose was good enough to get me home without any further issues.

    Problem With Heat Wrap

Please do, I'd like his opinion as to whether this clearance is typical for new installs.

    Problem With Heat Wrap

Interesting that TD started heat wrapping the water hose as with mine, though. Some of the photos of earlier cars show no wrapping of the hose, just the exhaust.

    Problem With Heat Wrap

I have rotated the water hose both ends and that has given me a small gap, which really helps. Still waiting for the heat wrap to arrive.

    Problem With Heat Wrap

Subtle changes in model year, maybe? Or else the engine mount variations mentioned above.

    Problem With Heat Wrap

I'm going to try that when I do the fix later on.

    Problem With Heat Wrap

My clearance is virtually zero. You can see the discolouration from the burning. Hopefully the heat wrap will arrive later and I can fix it before driving home. Here is the crank pulley clearance. Pretty damned close!

    Problem With Heat Wrap

Very close, I can't believe the small clearance!

    Problem With Heat Wrap

That's my thinking. It was always close, but the engine moving has worn the heat wrap right through over time. Yes, mine is UEL.
