  1. Hello,

Car is now unfortunately for sale so it's time to let go of my wheels too. Spec is:

    Desmond Regamasters
    5x100 pcd
    17x8 et35
Freshly refurbished with less than 2k miles on them since, no damage to them at all and not previously repaired.
Colour is a satin gold, very close to the original finish.
Currently fitted with generic ebay TRD centre caps, easily removed.

For those that don't know what they are, Desmond Regamasters are forged aluminium wheels, supposedly originally built in Russian tank factories after the war. They are incredibly light, with this size coming in at around 6.8kg each, so a good weight saving over stock, despite being an inch wider. These wheels are discontinued and are exceptionally rare, especially in this fitment - I know of only one other set in the UK in this spec. This is almost certainly the only set on a GT86 in the UK so if exclusivity is your bag, these are for you. It took me many months of trawling Japanese auction sites to find them; eventually they were imported earlier this year and refurbished to a high standard.

As a result of them being so rare, I'm finding it quite difficult to price them, they owe me around £1500 when taking in to account import taxes and refurbishment but with an impending house purchase they do need to sell.

I will offer them here for £1400 or nearest offer.
I am based in Bedford, collection very much preferred or courier can be arranged at buyers cost.

Pictures on the car are below, any questions, fire away. More close up shots to come.

  2. Sooo...this sucks but, reluctant sale of my 2013 GT86 due to an impending house purchase.

    Spec
'13 plate GT86 in dark grey
    45k on the clock.
    MOT until March 2019.
    Black cloth interior.
Standard Toyota head unit with sat nav.
    Full Toyota service history.
Service due soon so I will have this done for the new owner.

    Modifications
BC Racing BR Coilovers fitted less than 3k miles ago at Tuning Developments.
Tuning Developments Resonated cat-back exhaust. Gives a great sound, not too loud and zero motorway drone.
Stoptech front and rear brake pads and standard front discs.
    Uprated Focal IS165TOY front speakers.
    Beatsonic shark fin aerial.
Replica TRD spoiler (still have the standard spoiler if it's wanted)

    Bad Points
Couple of marks/stonechips as to be expected, previous owner looks to have tried to repair a small scrape by the rear tail-light with a touch up brush, maybe 2 inches or so, not that noticeable unless you look for it. The paintwork is in great condition overall.
Wheels have a couple of small scrapes from the previous owner.

    Location / Price
The car is currently located in Bedford (MK42)
    Price is £12.5k ono.

Please get in touch if you have any questions or would like more photos - I'll get some interior and engine bay shots added asap.

Pics below, more can be seen on my 'mod' thread here

***Please note that the car will come on standard wheels, not the gold Regamasters pictured•••

  3. Sooo, long time since I've updated this, few changes have happened. First was to finally fit my genuine, totally legit, replica TRD spoiler, shipped painted from Taiwan. Shockingly the paint was a perfect match and the fitment was spot on, all for less than £150  Then I met @Paul in a Tesco car park to buy his old Tuning Developments Resonated exhaust, got it fitted it straight away and very happy. Rest of the system is stock but this still gives a good bark when flooring it but no drone in the slightest on the motorway, perfect.

Next was new wheels. I've been running stock for a long time after selling my old Works, that ended when, after months of trawling ebay I finally found a set of Desmond Regamasters. For those that don't know, these are long discontinued wheels, forged aluminium wheels, built in Russian tank factories and are incredibly light. The 17x8 et35 set that I found clocks in at just over 6kg each. So, they were shipped over from Japan, refurbed and after another Tesco car park rendezvous, this time with @Deacon for some new wheel nuts, they were complete. After all that, I'm still not sure if I like them :( I was hoping for a shade or two darker/bronzer to suit the grey car more but they're growing on me.

Anyway, here are some pics of how she sits now:

  4. Works: 18x9.5 et38

    Regamasters: 17x8 et35

On the Works I was running 235/40/18 Yokohama v105s, with the extra width and better tyre there was a bit too much grip for stock power. You could tell that they were heavier, very slightly slower to pick up but not major, the Works are fairly light considering the size but with the larger tyre too they were heavier than stock overall.

The Regamasters I’m just running the stock Primacy tyres as I liked the playfulness of the stock car. For any track work though you’d probably want to go for a better tyre. You can feel how light the wheels are over stock for sure, quicker to pick up. Overall if you’re just driving on the road the differences aren’t major, I wouldn’t go for very heavy wheels though.

I’m running BC coilovers, not sure how low they are set, probably 50-60mm lower than stock.

  5. I think people have mostly covered this, just to add that the thing to remember when browsing forum is that they are always skewed towards the negative; nobody is ever going to start a thread to say "6 years on and no issues!" and many people will pop on here only to ask a question if something goes wrong. In terms of my own experience, mine is a 2013 model with 44k on the clock, like most I had the original battery replaced, the front quarter light rust and the scratched windows - all replaced under warranty.

Definitely planning 17x8 wheels but going to stick to standard offset or as close to as possible. That will give me 1/2” more poke than standard which with a slight drop will give it the OEM+ look I want to achieve. Aiming for a stance similar to the below...

Standard offset won't achieve that look, the wheels in that shot are closer to the arch than the half an inch that 8J wheels will give you.

Ah okay lol. Like them in matt too. Okay, I think I'll get those then. Think it's worth getting 225?

Personal preference really, most people who are looking for better performing tyres will go slightly wider to a 225 and a higher quality tyre such as the Michelin PS4 , better grip, more predictable than the stock. Others like the stock tyres purely for the fun factor, if you don't have a problem with how your current tyres perform then you could always swap those tyres on to the new wheels and slap winter tyres on your stock wheels.

Okay cool thanks for clearing that up. I can't find them 8 wide with 35 offset, only 38 offset wheb setting 8 wide.

I was looking at the ones below, matt black? It's only 3mm difference either way. The fronts should be more or less flush, the rears would be flush with a 10mm spacer or so but it isn't necessary.

They have 38 or 35. Lower offset means they stick out further, right? Or am I being thick.

Yes, lower the offset, the further towards the arch they will be. Just had a look, they do those wheels in an 8" wide, 35 offset which would be a decent fitment. You can still run the stock 215 tyres on an 8" or you can choose to go to a 225 for a bit more grip.
