    Supercharger stopped working?

Noticed a lack of pull today especially in higher revs, which is where the supercharger usually makes its-self known. Everything looks normal under the bonnet. Anything I can check before I try to find a local and reliable garage?

    Supercharger stopped working?

All I've done is drive it for 10 months! - Down/up side of it otherwise running fine. First attempt to sort it is this. It likely will need an expert to look at it but I'm trying to rule the basics out.

    Supercharger stopped working?

Hi @Mark@Abbey M/S - yeah, it was fitted by yourselves. The belt doesnt squeal, is there a way for me to check the tension?

    Supercharger stopped working?

Can't believe this much time has passed! So it's still not working right - fuel economy is constistently higher than it was prior to last May, and it's still hugely down on power. I finally did as advised today by @Mark@Abbey M/S and removed the intake pipe, and the impeller is spinning fine on tickover. Also, when not running if I gently push/pull on the impellor it moves the belt/pulley slightly - so clearly at least PART of the SC gearbox works. Any other suggestions would be much appreciated. I've bought myself a cheap runaround for now to allow me to get to the bottom of what's wrong with the GT86. It continues to drive fine, and strangely last week on a run I did feel a large increase of power at higher revs. But only that once. Looking at the extensive thread on a different site about the HKS supercharger - when they fail they usually sieze and stop the car from runnging. Which is not what I've found. Still no engine warning lights. Is there a device I can plug in to diagnose further?

Hi, whats the lowest you'd take for the full exhaust system please?

    Stock exhaust system

    Is this still available?

    Supercharger stopped working?

Is that what is referred to in the HkS fitting guide as the 'suction pipe'? Excuse my ignorance. Also, is continuing to drive it going to make things worse? Many thanks Mark @Mark@Abbey M/S

    Supercharger stopped working?

Well everything looks correct. Oil level is right, belt seems tense and in tact, can't see anything loose or damaged. Air filter is not blocked. Hmmm. Is it worth trying to reset the ECU?

    Traction fluid reservoir?

    Supercharger stopped working?

Same, to be honest. Hoping to find somewhere local who does modifications to have a quick look in the hope it's something simple. Now it's cooled down, gonna go have a look myself and see if anything is hanging off - any exploded diagrams of what I should be looking at?! Supercharger's are all new to me...

    Supercharger stopped working?

No, I don't think so This has the HKS v2 supercharger, and standard internals as far as I know - it was fitted by Abbey a few years ago by previous owner but I'm now 300 miles away from them sadly

    Supercharger stopped working?

Yeah that's what I thought. Just asking around now for an experienced garage. I have no idea what I'm talking about.

HKS. The exhaust tone is quite different too.

I wish I could be more accurate....I think it's barely there, if at all. No mid-range urge and no back of the seat push at higher end. Never had it standard though so hard to be precise.

    Prospective owner, some questions!

Oh - and don't feel that going to your own bank is worth it - you get no preferential treatment so just go with whoever moneysupermarket say are the cheapest for your needs.

    Prospective owner, some questions!

Agree - bank loan. Moneysupermarket will give you a good idea of the rates and repayments you'll get without running a full-on credit check.

I would never consider buying new unless you really want a particular spec.

    Squeaky Brakes

Very common problem. Justified by Toyota by the claim that the car is intended to be used on track. Ridiculous if you ask me. Plenty of other focussed cars don't have the same issue. I swapped mine for a set of Stoptech pads on the front following advice on here, but it's made no difference. Drives me up the wall! Not sure if it's the back ones doing it now, or it's because I didn't grease them when fitting.
  19. Came to the car one morning, didn't unlock automatically when I went for the handle. Tried the fob, no response. Tried again, nothing. Tried 5 minutes later, unlocked fine, started fine, in-and-out several times during my workday and no problems. Same thing the following morning, and each morning since. If I use the little key to open the lock, the alarm goes off when I open the door. Tried my other fob, same thing. Tested the battery, multimeter has it as 3v (correct). Tried turning Bluetooth off on my stereo and my phone. Tried turning my phone off before trying to unlock. Nothing makes sense to me - if it was a battery issue in the fob, it wouldn't work consistently throughout the day. If it was an issue with the car battery (replaced 6 months ago by Toyota) then it would at least struggle to start in a morning - but it's fine. The ONLY thing I can think of, is that the day before this started, I tried to charge my phone from completely flat using the USB port in the dash - and after that when I plugged my USB stick back in, it didn't detect it until I turned the ignition off and on twice. My phone has the fast-charge ability so could it have been trying to draw too much power and has confused something? I've ordered a new battery for the fob, but beyond that I'm stumped. Is there a way to reset the alarm/ECU that's worth trying - maybe disconnecting the battery for half an hour?

    Jev's gt86 aero

    Looks good. Dat nob tho.
  22. A few extra horses will make absolutely no difference to your engine's longevity. Don't worry about it at all.

    GT86 Alternatives, Pros and Cons

M135i is rear wheel drive, but that's where the similarities end. It's not a sports car - it's a refined 5 seater, with the weight and comfort that brings. As you say, it looks like every other BMW. I drove several e92 M3's - seemed very generic at lower revs, but people do say they grow on you. I'd have had one over the M135i, but the prices are ridiculous at the moment - however zero depreciation - my friend had one for £25k 3 years ago that BMW are selling today for £27k. I was looking at 2 year old M135i's for £18k, or a 10 year old M3 for the same price! TTRS felt wonderfully fast, but a bit woollen and again, it's not really a sports car. The only thing that came close, was a Cayman S - if you get the 987 2nd generation (£23k+) then the engine woes were fixed, and it's a wonderful car to drive, and unlikely to cost too much more to run than a performance BMW. Only reason I didn't get one was because at 6'4 I'm JUST too tall to be comfortable. The GT86 is rare, it's light, the driving position is ace, every journey is an event. Kids love it, everyone else on the road seems to hate you (I never get let out of junctions and anything remotely sporty drives up my arse until I floor it). Having said that, I only bought one over the M135i because someone else had spent the £10k on a supercharger and additional mods. Drive them all. Only way to tell.

Help - want to lower the BRZ what my options

I might be able to make it, but it'll be a last-minute decision because I have a lot on at the moment.

Help - want to lower the BRZ what my options

Not sure. I'm thinking either the roads local to me are particularly bad, something's not right with the car - be it bushes links or something else I don't understand, or these particular coilovers - but they aren't cheap, and other people sing their praises. It's a work in progress - just had a weekend in the Lake District, and driving on the smooth roads was great, but on the little back roads here in Yorkshire I'm having to avoid a lot of my usual traffic-light-dodging routes because it's impossible to make smooth progress. It's embarrassingly bad.
