  1. Hi All,

I couldn't post this in the 'official meets' board for some reason. Or find any posts about it.

I'm wondering if the club will be attending the Japanese Performance Show at Stonleigh Park, CV8 2LG on Sunday 18th August?

    https://www.japaneseperformanceshow.co.uk/

I haven't attended before but know many people who have and love it.

The show is mostly indoors, with 10 car pitches costing £30. Stand and general admission tickets are £13.50, Show & Shine £21.00

What does the club management think?

  2. Hi Nathan.

Car looks good! Great choice in wheels 😉

As my name would suggest, I'm from Bristol!

Not many people at all have had the recall done. Just bear with Toyota and it'll eventually get sorted out.

From seeing posts on here and in the FB group, be sure to push for parts only price on the spark plugs (if at the 60k service) and similar for clutch if you know its slipping etc (clutches seem to be on back order though).

As a local guy. Be sure to take a look at Slip & Grip Automotive who run regular track days at Castle Combe and meets etc!

Hope to see you about soon.

  3. Hello Management.

I'm wondering if someone could provide me with either a link to or information about Trade Membership fees etc for the DC and associated Facebook group please?

My local performance garage (FCM Motorsport. Bristol) is interested in signing up but needs to see the rates first.

I've been having a search on here but couldn't find anything.

    Thanks in advance.

Great thread guys thanks for the tips on installing. I'm looking to get the Pioneer one very soon with DAB.

Quick question, are you aware of a harness that allows you to use the steering wheel controls? I'm aware there are a few harnesses advertised but wondered if you'd be able to recommend any first hand.

This is something I’m not sure about. Reading the instructions for my Sony HU, it has a section about programming the unit for steering wheel controls, but I won’t know if they work until I receive all my cables to do the install.

A bit of Googling has found this...

Dunno if it's any good though?

Thanks for the link Tommy. This may come in handy if my HU doesn’t deal with steering wheel controls after all 😐🤔

Didn't bother with the handbrake wire. I'm pretty sure it's to stop videos being played whilst you're on the move... I've never played any video content on any headunit I've owned and don't intend to start! 🙂

    That’s what I thought too.

I’ll be sure to give it a test drive before the final fit and tidy up.

    Cheers

I used this when fitting the pioneer (previously mentioned in this thread) that I bought...

It led to a lot of stuff being crammed into the dashboard, so I spliced it and the Pioneer loom together! All joins soldered and covered with heat shrink.

Regarding the surround, I made my own blanking pieces. I shared the dimensions in this thread...

    Cheers for the link.

Ive ended up copying everything that McDude bought for his as it only came to another £25. 😂

Fortunately the XAV-AV3005DB had a single DIN chassis, Double DIN screen and frame. So should be reasonable space for the harnesses etc.

One final question for you both. The unit has a green wire that the instructions say needs to be attached to the handbrake position sensor. Did you do it?

    Cheers again for the help!

Can I just comment on how useful your original post was. I went to buy a BRZ on Thursday and used your guide to order all cables (and Halfords for a Pioneer SPH-D230DAB as they had it at a good price) and managed to get it all installed over the weekend.

Also did the DAB under the speaker grill as suggested above and its working but haven;t tried it in many places yet.

General_Kirby, I was just thinking the same! Good work McDude. Thank you!

Could either of you tell me or provide a link to where you bought your harness cables and surround from please??

I got 25% off this today! Can’t wait to fit it at the weekend but only want to do it with all the right bits in hand.

I just picked up my Pro on Thursday and have been attempting to fit a reverse parking camera to the Touch 2 with Go

however it seems to the well known 16 pin reverse camera connector is not present on the Touch 2 with Go

I do however have a free 24 pin and 12 pin connector which are both empty (top left in my attachment)

has anyone had this working or point me in the direction of the relevant pin outs?

from looking at past threads i can see the original Touch & Go used the 28 pin port for video inputs so i may find the 28 pin has the required connections but would like a diagram to verify before i make any connections.

EDIT - the 24 pin connector is used for the reversing camera on the top two left pins

    Thanks AndyB

    Hi Andy.

Hoping you might be able to help me.

Is this the CD less head unit?  I've got a 2017 pro and am about to change the HU for a Sony XAV3005DB.

I'm just wondering how the USB connection from the HU to the dash port (by the start button) is wired up?

Edit: I’ve found out it’s a poxy special end on the USB cable from the dash port, so I’ll be buying a harness cable to get it to a traditional USB-A to plug into the back of my new HU.

  9. Cheers both.

Loving it indeed. 😁 Not even taken many photos of it yet as when I've managed to get out I. It, I've been driving not wanting to stop for snaps.

About 650miles at the moment @Lauren. I've had a couple of weeks where I've been in hire cars etc away with work, so it's only been used on weekends.

This weekends round trip to Japfest should pretty much finish off the running in. See you there

Welcome! There seems to be a few of us around Swindon, should really get a south west meet going! You might see me and my friend driving about in white and black 86s, give us a wave if you do

And Bristol thank you! Yes, we do need to sort some Sputh West action

  11. As Kobayashi said, Colinite is a very durable 2 coat hard wax. I used it as part of my big yearly detail on the Celica and it's a brilliant product. Lasts well but is time consuming to apply and is expensive purely for wheels.

I used Poorboys Nattys Wheel Sealant (or wax, I can't remember the exact name) which was about £15. It's a high temperature wax designed for wheels. If you have a completely fresh or decontaminated surface, I'd go for it!

After two full coats coats on freshly powder coated wheels, water was enough to take any dirt and brake dust off and it beaded brilliantly. Plus, importantly, its natural and smells INCREDIBLE

Ross I have spoken to Alex Jaskowski are we are happy to share/help with meets as we are based in Cheltenham and had a chat about possible meets in Bristol/Cotswolds/Malverns/Wales?

From here there are some good routes down through to Abergavenny via Ross on Wye and could meet at the big carpark where the cafe is.

I am going on tour of the Morgan factory fairly soon and I can ask about group booking if anybody would be interested.

Now I have my car I'd be up for some meets around Bristol and the South West.

  13. Surprise!

After an unexpected arrival at Fish Bros on Wednesday, I was able to pick up my car yesterday afternoon!

It's perfect inside and out (now I've swapped the rear number plate bolts round so black is on black and yellow on yellow ;)B)).

60 or so miles yesterday and off out for a jaunt around Bristol, Gloucester and South Wales today. Wave if you see me!

Interestingly, I asked the dealer about running in and was told '500 miles no more than 4k rpm and then just drive it and no inspection at 1000miles'. This is different to what's in the owners manual; so I will be double checking that but it's already good.

I'm so happy with it. It's taken so long to get it that it's a dream! See you all at Japfest

Better late than never and welcome Lee. Another local with a 86 :)

Just out of interest why go to Swindon when you have Toyoto in Bris?

I ended up going to Swindon after the two Motorline Toyota centres in Bristol pretty much flat refused to do a deal, being adamant that the deal was pretty much list price.  Also, having had a Celica for the last 6 years, every visit to them has resulted in me having to complain.

Fish Bros in Swindon did me a really good deal through Carwow and have kept me well informed the entire way through the process.

  15. Nope. Toyota now fit all of their parking sensors etc at the point of entry to the UK.  Have done for a number of years, along with sunroofs, stereos and.....armrests:rolleyes:

As other threads have alluded to, Subaru fit them at the dealer.

It's one of those things, it happens. At the moment, as I said, it's still the closest I've been to owning one and it's only getting closer.  Should the delay go on too much longer, i'll obviously have to consider my options again.

  16. As the silence and lack of photo's suggests,  I still don't have my car....:(

According to both the dealers and Toyota HQ, first the parking sensor kit and now the armrest haven't arrived at the docks for fitting.

Not overly happy about it, but it's still closer than it's ever been I suppose.  Toyota are keeping me informed of the progress and have made the car a priority to get the parts and get the car to me, but it does grate a bit that the order has been in since 13th January, the car has been built and shipped from the other side of the world and it's an armrest that's holding it up.

    Oh well.

I'll let you all know when I have the keys! Most likely to be mid-April now, so it's suddenly looking a lot tighter for me to have my car in time for Japfest...

I test drove the 1.5l version with Will and didn't think it was all that, definitely not as pin point as the 86 (more roll, less feel through the steering wheel, ran out of steam quickly and etc.) but it was fun to drive around with the top down :D

The 2.0 Sport solves the running out of puff problem.

I drove that and chased down a spiritedly driven GT86 easily on the UK launch event last summer (or the summer before perhaps). 200kg less helps minimise the effect of 40 less bhp.

It didn't minimise my swearing when it turned down the side road in front of me though. Brilliant little impromptu test. I always find it interesting to see how a car reacts on the road from the car behind. It showed how well tied down the GT86 is.

Great fun car though and it even got attention from the driver of a GT3 with a brilliant plate!

  18. Update 5: The car is being prepped at the docks and I have a registration number allocated (should be registered next week!).

Hopefully, I'll be collecting it from Fish Bros Toyota, Swindon on Friday 17th March.

Fingers crossed because that would be the day after my birthday and would be a fantastic slightly belated present to myself 😋

One question. Could someone the file types the Toyota Touch (or Touch 2) head unit recognises for music, and if it does album art (along with sizes for it). I've picked up a SanDisk Cruzr 64gb thumb drive and would like to get it loaded up with music before picking the car up .  Any help would be great!
