    Help me decide

Congrats dude! Welcome to the family! Now, until you go FI you have to remember 1 very important quote to tell people: "As the Baby Jesus once said "He who shall be last, shall be sideways and smiling!"" - Jeremy Clarkson when reviewing the 86! haha! Enjoy that beauty to the full

    Any device to Monitor Knock?

Official Octane rating is 95RON (That's the maximum you can get). BUT due to the poor conditions of gas stations they vary a lot and can sometimes even go down to 85 (a friend of mine had taken several samples and tested) That's why i'm worried and would like to monitor knock. Andrew

    Any device to Monitor Knock?

Thanks for the reply knightryder, I am getting it mapped remotely by Adrian@Fensport using the ecutek stuff. But i wanted some device that i can look at occasionally just to make sure knock is under control. I was considering running OFT just for the sake of having a small screen outputting valuable data. That's all. i won't dare touch any maps with it.

    Extra gauges - wiring routing

I promise i won't scare you too much It's actually quite relaxing going 60 - 80MPH sideways nearly touching your friend's car. It might not sound right but it mellows me out I'll be on my best behaviour

    Any device to Monitor Knock?

Thanks for the info guys. Yeah i know that ecutek handle knock very well, but i wanted a device that can show me realtime knock so as soon as i notice that knock readings are repeatedly high i can stop pushing it. Also for example it will indicate if the octane in the fuel is finishing (since we have crap fuel here i'm forced to mix in octane booster every time!) I could have sworn i came across a device once specifically for the GT86 in the US . Can't seem to find it though For now i'm considering running the OpenFlash Tablet as that has a nice page that displays all important data. Will keep you guys posted of any info i stumble upon

    Extra gauges - wiring routing

I too (just like Jay) have just placed an order now for the Block8Head dual 52mm gauge pod. Since these are custom i have asked him to seat the pods closer to the dash (As they seem a bit too raised from the dash from pics i saw), and also closer to the door (further away from the driver) so i can get the gauges out of the way. Especially when performing close twin-drifts when you're literally 30-60 cm away from your buddy's door you really do need every extra bit of windscreen real estate! Hopefully he can accommodate my request!

    Nige's Wide Body Project

Wow nige! What an inspiration! Loving your craftsmanship and engineering excellence! I would say jack of all trades but you seem to be the master of all So, for someone inexperienced with Fibre etc i guess you would recommend just buying the Genuine kit yeah? I love the rivet look but man i saw a couple of photos of the bunny kit arches blended in and OMG that was lovely! pic attaches just to tease :P What do you think?
  11. I can measure the Pulley this coming Tuesday if you want, that's when my kit will be arriving (hopefully !)

    Lee's HKS v2 Supercharged 86

Great info lee, seems like you know a thing or 2 about tuning If i may ask, did you go with delicious because they have a better base map then you will perfect it in the UK? Because i know that Adrian@fensport (which is what i am going for) and probably mark@Abbey too offer basemaps. I was just curious as to why Delicious and not UK based companies. In the end what oil viscosity (and brand) did you go for on your car? You mentioned that: But do you know how much the pump is working at? meaning if i want to open the restrictor a bit more and throw more fuel at it, from your findings i now feel safe that the injectors will keep up. But will the pump keep up too? Is it better to just upgrade the pump ? Any other tips for people like me going the HKS FI route this month? You mentioned that the manual was a bit of a pain and after several reads i concur with you. Maybe a revision is necessary. Thanks lee
  13. Jay, What oil pressure gauge/oil pressure sender are you running? Do you have some cool tech running to monitor stuff like oil pressure, oil temp, water temp etc or just good old gauges? I am reading ( and trying to memorise ) the HKS GT Supercharger install manual and i can see that in part 3 it tells you to mount the SC + bracket to the engine. But in part 5 it tells you how to attach the filter to the supercharger out of the car and then stick it all on to the engine... This is a mistake i imagine right? And at the end it tells you to rev the car to 2K RPM for 10 seconds to run the traction fluid and top up if it goes down. I imagine you can only rev the car to 2K once you have flashed the base map correct? Also, the manual warns at the end that while the engine is getting warm you may hear some weird sounds. Did you experience any of these sounds?
  14. It's not a question of driving skills. It's a question of a bad habit i need to cut out. And yeah you're right i need to cut it out before i cause something nasty!
  15. Hi All, I have a bunch of HKS parts on order as i am preparing for Forced Induction. I've had a problem for about a year now and i'm not sure if it's a genuine concern or not. Every 2 months or so when i slam the throttle on low RPM (about 1500 - 2000) I hear the dreaded Direct Injector "POP" from the engine bay, i also loose power for a split second. kind of like a mis-fire. Toyota in Malta while they offer great "normal people" customer care, they know absolutely NOTHING about this car and really don't want to help me on this. I have been complaining about rough idle a couple of months after i bought the car. The idle is not super rough, but if you sit still in the seat and don't move you feel little kicks. It hold rpms good though (maybe Malta's shitty fuel). But this pop i'm worried about. Should i go out all guns blazing against toyota and hire lawyers etc to force them to change the Direct Injector seals, or since it's not that frequent shall i just ignore it and go for the SuperCharger Upgrade + a great map from Adrian@Fensport and hope for the best? Thanks guys, really appreciate the feedback
  16. Great info Jay! It's interesting to see how the HP starts to be pulled down because of the restrictor. Is it safe to run a 43mm restrictor on stock fuel system? Also, Did you have to install an AFR gauge for Adrian to map you car better? Or were the readings from the Ecutek AFR enough?
  17. yeah i know it's a stupid habit of mine! However since our cars are fly by wire shouldn't the ECU open the throttle at a certain ratio to prevent damage etc etc?
  18. Yeah that's the thing that's worrying me. I love to push my car, ALWAYS, so i would imagine i'd always be hearing this popping sound. But in fact it's quite rare! 2 - 3 months i hear it max. Noise didn't get any louder. I will ask toyota to supply me with the latest map before i go FI (not that it's gna make any difference since i'll be getting remapped) but at least before i go FI i can see if it improves idle etc etc. Thanks guys for the info and some re-assurance, i'll keep you posted.

    D2 Brakes??

Hey, i have just ordered D2 8pot brakes with 330mm discs for my 86. They are due to arrive within the next 2 weeks. I will keep you updated on performance, fitment, etc etc. I thing to note regarding D2 for all those that are sceptical (as was i), D2 for many years used to make a "2-piece" caliper, so 2 halves were bolted to form 1 part. Not very good when you have hydraulic pistons pushing pushing outwards on a pad. D2 now completely changed the manufacturing process and are now selling their 8-pot kit as a forged monoblock caliper. My set will actually be the first in Malta with this forged monoblock design. So i'm pretty confident that we're not going to be seeing any of that "caliper flex" issues. Will keep you posted
  20. Hey Lee, Thanks for your reply, i guess i got all my questions answered Goodluck on your build and take care of that back i will def be following Once i install my kit i'll try to write up a comprehensive installation manual with lots of pictures and clear instructions. I'm sure someone in the future will find it handy. Also a lot of people are complaining about the manual if you're not lucky enough to have someone with you who reads Japanese
  21. Excellent Writeup Jay as always! very detailed! Can't wait to see the numbers (more importantly the power difference) this beast is going to be putting out after whiz-kid Adrian is done with it. I should have mine fitted by the end of this month so hopefully i can follow in your footsteps and write a thread about install too. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind: 1) was it necessary to cut a little channel in the upper bonnet support for the charge pipe? Or did you just do this for piece of mind? 2) did you have to buy the T-piece to connect the vaccum line to the Recirc valve or was it supplied by HKS? 3) You told me yesterday that you had to cut some pulley but i didn't really get the full picture. Can you please elaborate on what pulley/s had to be removed/cut and what modifications had to be done around this area? 4) What parts (if any) did you have to buy apart from the HKS GT Supercharger Kit to get all this fitted? 5) Did you have to do some kind of bleeding to the traction fluid system? Or do you just fill up and start the engine? 6) Apart from a goos set of spanner and sockets, screwdrivers, belt removal tool, and a grinder (to cut the alternator pulley) where there any other tools that you used or would have found handy to use? And is a car lift necessary for this job? Thanks for the info and goodluck at Adrian Andrew.
