  1. There seems to be so much bashing for the new Supra which I think is unfair really. I seem to be one of the few who really like and stand by it. Looks will always he subjective but you can't argue with the the pedigree behind it, it's the right wheel drive with the right amounts of cylinders etc etc.

If i was able to justify sinking 50k into a car It would be to a tough decision between the Supra and Jag F Type.

It will sell pretty well but not in this country. People over here seemed to be obsessed with high performance white goods and anything German.

but as I understand it from Mike the TD turbo requires the removal of the 2nd cat.

No its not a necessity, you can keep the stock front pipe, the only reason for changing it is to make the most of the turbo kit (in terms of power).

So you can have your cake and eat it.

There's not much in it I admit, but equal length is the obvious choice and I was chasing peak figures for sprinting. I didn't go for UEL as I didn't want my car to sound like it was broken.  brilliant  :P

I don't disagree with you guys, yes Honda didn't have emissions to worry about back then. My point is the engine is dull, lacks character and tends not to make the quoted figures. In my opinion Toyota should have just followed the crowd and put a turbocharged lump in it which would have got around the emissions thing. I have driven modern turbocharged engines and they still redline at what the GT86 does anyway.

I think even the most blinkered GT86 owner would admit that they would prefer if it if their car had come with a turbocharged lump as standard. Don't get me wrong, I love the GT86 and what is stands for, I might even get another one day, I just think the engine lets it down a bit.

No I wouldn't say a turbo charged lump but a Toyota engine. I'm not a fan of the FA20, Toyota should of developed the engine for it not Subaru, they have produced some good engines over the years, I would of prefered they "sacrifice" some of the ultra low centre of gravity for an inline 4. Its not like you need a flat engine to achieve this seeing as Toyota have quite proudly stated the new Supras CoG is lower than the GT86 and that's got a hoofing big 3.0 straight 6 in it.

I have said this before on here, but my main issue with the GT86 engine for me, isn't the 0-60 or the lack of power, it is actually in the way it delivers it's power, the power delivery, in my opinion is very dull. Honda were getting 200bhp put of their 2 litre NA engines nearly 20 years ago, the difference is, vtec makes it fun.

The other slight issue is that when rolling roaded none of the the GT86's are actually producing the power they are supposed to, they are more like 180-185bhp.

I agree its definitely not the jewel in the crown on this car but then again Honda weren't making nearly 200bhp at less than 7000rpm to Euro 6 standards.  The torque dip ruins the power delivery though.

An equal length manifold is superior to the unequal one. The secret is in the manifold, losing the primary cat and the cam timing more likely.

Superior? More like marginal. Unless you are chasing the ultimate peak figure there is not really anything in it, the choice is primarily preference on the sound.

Does anyone know if the new Xtrons PR78HGTL will fit the 86?

Also has anyone been able to successfully use bluetooth tethering to these headunits?

I can't see why it wouldn't its a 200mm unit which is perfect as you wont need to use any ugly fascia trim pieces :)

2 cats are there from the manufacturer for a very good reason. Taking one out could help you pass for the initial years but as the cat ages and wears out with mileage, is destined to fail. Finding a friendly garage is a nice way to make something illegal, legal for cheap. Not my way of thinking but hey ho.

The car is fitted with 2 cats for EURO6 standards not those of the MOT. Our cars should easily pass on either of the factory cats. If the standards of the MOT were that strict most older gen cars will fail it.

  7. Mk4 1.25L Fiestas, 2 apprentices in my year had them,  they would do a quart every week. We were convinced they were dual fueled, cylinders 1 and 4 ran on oil the other 2 ran on petrol. They never bothered to do oil changes as they turned over so much of the stuff

  8. Mine works really well.

The camera swivels, its like a ball in a socket type setup, that's why there is that groove in the mount, so you can swivel it without obstructing the view, it stays solid. One option is to get it in position then stick some super glue through the back so it stays put.

  9. Changing to stiffer anti roll bars has an infamous effect of making the ride harsh on these cars as you have discovered on both set of springs. You would have been better off leaving the lowering springs on and replacing the ARB back to stock, you would get the aesthetics and comfortable ride back with minimal loss of body roll (lets face it these cars are very planted stock and even better just on a set of lowering springs). Sorry it doesn't help your knock problem, but I also have a very similar knock from the front, its only evident at speeds less than 20mph and small bumps in the road. Anything faster or more aggressive and its silent. I've checked everything for play and tightness and all is good, the only thing I intend to do now is loosen the ARB and top mount nuts, lower the car so the full weight is on the suspension then retorque it back up.

I appreciate the advice but as I said, I don't have the time to part it out due to work commitments. The nearest place that could help with this is 2+ hours away from me.

Totally understand, if you do change your mind at any point however, drop me a PM. Good luck with the sale.
