infernouk 8 Report post Posted October 30, 2017 Hi guys, So i just got my GT86 used, its had its first service recently before i purchased it. Im currently deciding how to handle its maintenance over my ownership and wanted some advice. The dealer, Steven Eagell doesnt seem that great, they are offering me 20% off servicing because theyve messed me around so much already, but im apprehensive to trust a poor quality main dealer. My mum has a 370Z who they take to Japex, a specialist garage who they say do a great job. So i was considering using them, they maintain the warranty for the car too. So my question is, should I be dodging main dealers with this car at the cost of the 20% saving? especially if my local seems not to be that great and the plan ties me into their dealer network. And secondly how is warranty claiming handled if you dont use a main dealer? Does it still need to go to them if something goes bang? or van valid independents work with the warranty? Cheers for any input here, I am Hertfordshire based
nikndel 509 Report post Posted October 30, 2017 Steven Eagell are worthless and unless you are prepared to travel up north I don't know of any other local dealerships that are any good. Using a other option as independent garage while keeping your warranty seems to rely on Toyota parts and VAT registered but I am not 100% sure but if they carried out a bad service or repair I can't see Toyota putting it right and if you did use a independent and had a warranty issue can't see a dealership running around to do this. I used Toyota dealership for my warranty period and they weren't anything special and expensive
Minion 132 Report post Posted October 30, 2017 I see your based in London, I know you've got Abbey Motorsport not too far from you which a lot on here use and rate very highly. I've only ever purchased stuff from them but have always been pleasant with good service Just remember 20% off main dealer prices will still probably be more than a reputable tuner that for sure knows more about the car and working with them. infernouk 8 Report post Posted October 30, 2017 My thoughts too on the tuner being more than 20% cheaper anyway. My concern here is my warranty, I want it maintained and does that mean staying in the main dealer group? I believe most specialists that do GT86 abide by the warranty rules of parts oil and vat registered abbey is unfortunetly still 90mins away

rob275 1817 Report post Posted October 30, 2017 I take mine to Abbey, it's on the southern end of the M25 but I imagine there isn't much in it distance wise between Fensport and Abbey for you.
infernouk 8 Report post Posted October 30, 2017 Cheers guys, so in terms of warranty work can these guys carry it out or do I need to return to a main dealer and request help?
nikndel 509 Report post Posted October 30, 2017 You need to go back to main dealer however it would be interesting if Toyota have authorised any non dealer warranty work?

That’s what I mean, turning up at a main dealer and asking for free warranty work is likely to be tricky if they haven’t had the profits off your servicing, does concern me as in this case it may be easier to take the servicing deal with the reduced rate I was offered? They can't refuse warranty work because you haven't been there. But they do just refuse warranty work en general because they are cnuts.

Is there any significant history with needing warranty work on there cars? Minus the battery issue I saw, my car is a 2016

So potentially the best move is to use independent timers and if something goes bang I turn up and hope Toyota honour the warranty. Just a bit of a mission to get to the reputable tuners and the fuel cost!
Church 209 Report post Posted October 30, 2017 Speaking of warranty. Is there any place where i can check if i have extended warranty or not (bought used)?

infernouk 8 Report post Posted October 30, 2017 Yeah so this is the main point of the topic so I take main dealer with the 20% discount or do I take indipendant and hope they still honour the warranty

infernouk 8 Report post Posted October 30, 2017 Yeah it has to be their dealer group apparently and they don’t seem too great I’m really just concerned about being able to get warranty work

It’s them for the discount as they keep messing me around so I don’t get that in any other franchise. But I’ve totally lost faith in their group based on the customer service so I’d rather get far away from them, happy to use an indi it’s just about handling the warranty as I don’t know how well the car was treated and want to cover my back
nikndel 509 Report post Posted October 30, 2017 Well not a lot of choice really a tuner will most probably be cheaper and know more about the car but not local as for warranty work fingers crossed you won't need it but it's a lottery on what's covered with some of them I haven't got a clue on how it works anyway I guess they have to see if Toyota will pay them
Guest 86guns Report post Posted October 30, 2017 I bought my car from a BMW dealer. They carried out its 2nd year service as part of my purchase deal. I immediately had a warranty claim (heated seats not working), which the local Vantage Toyota dealer handled no problem.
