smudge 1020 Report post Posted February 22, 2015 I need new track wheels and have been looking around at what width I want on the front 9.5J on the rear seems suitable for the Sprintex power I'm putting through them But what's the realistic difference between having 8.5J on the front vs 9.5J? I've got 9.5J all round with my Rays and I love the hold you can get on the road, bit I've never had them on the track. My old Work track where 8J all round and I felt like I needed wider wheels to put the power down Anyone had experience of running 8.5J fronts vs 9.5J fronts? rob275 1817 Report post Posted February 22, 2015 I think you're liable to get more understeer, but obviously this could be tweaked out. Having 9.5J on the rear is no bad thing. I'm on 9J square atm and seems fine imo. There are times on track where I feel I need more grip but the reality is i probably just need to learn to drive.. KevinA 695 Report post Posted February 22, 2015 9.5 all round, many prefer a squre set up. Too much grip is just enough !
smudge 1020 Report post Posted February 22, 2015 Would an 8.5J front and 9.5J rear be better than 9.5 all round?
Jamie_GRMN 177 Report post Posted February 23, 2015 I wrote a massive essay in response to this but it is useless because: This is another one that comes down to personal preference mate, you set it up how you want it, not taking others advice
smudge 1020 Report post Posted February 23, 2015 But I haven't tried them both lol
Lee 82 Report post Posted February 23, 2015 Square set up is easier as you can rotate tyres. Tyre width on a given wheel width plays a bigger difference given the same tyre - slight 'stretch' is better than a tyre too wide for the rim. e.g. 235 will feel better than a 255 on a 9" rim on certain tyres.
