First GT86 Detail - Semi-Success!

Recommended Posts

I woke up this morning looking at the weather, it was sunny outside with a few black clouds, I didn't know whether to crack on with the detail today or leave it until next weekend. Metcheck said it was currently raining and BBC Weather said it was going to rain until 3pm.

Still unsure at about 10:30 I gathered up my bits to begin tackling this, my plan was initially to wash the car down, Iron-X and clay it ready for polishing. As it happened it didn't rain at 3pm and the BBC forcast said it was going to be dry for the rest of the afternoon/evening so I figured i'd carry on with the polishing.

Items used:

- 4 New Microfibre cloths

- Karcher pressure washer

- DAS-6 PRO Dual Action Polisher

- Menzerna PF2300

- Menzerna SF4500

- Polishing Pad

- Finishing Pad

- PH Neutral Snow Foam

- The remains of my AG Shampoo

- Wash Mitt

- 2 Buckets

- Gtechniq C1

- Gtechniq G4

- Gtechniq G1

- Gtechniq G2

My first step was to snow foam the car to remove any larger bits of grit etc

I then washed it off with the pressure washer lance after i'd left it for 10mins ish

I then washed the car using two buckets, rinsing each panel at a time

I then Applied Iron-X to the paintwork doing a few panels at a time (This stuff stinks I was gagging on it, but it works!)

Rinsed Iron-X off after 3-5 minutes of curing

Snow Foamed again and rinsed

Back on the driveway to begin claying the entire car

Car was then pretty much ready to begin the polishing...

I used Menzerna PF2300 on panels that had some swirls, mainly the bonnet, roof, rear quarters and SF4500 over the all the panels afterwards.

This is where I have got to, I need to wipe down with Alcohol tomorrow and apply Gtechniq C1 then prep the windows up to be done. Will put pictures up tomorrow of the finished product and some in between bits. Haven't taken a lot though as I needed to get it done!

Update:

This morning up at 8am, dried the car, wiped all panels down with Gtechniq Panel Wipe

Polished front & read windows with G4

Applied Gtechniq G1 to windows (at this point it started drizzling during curing and i got a bit mad, but it worked)

Left to cure for 15 minutes and applied G2 to remove residue from the G1

Applied C1 to all panels and shot off to the Grass hopper meet, so Images are Post grasshopper meet.
