MeisterR 20% OFF Coilovers Group Buy

Just a bump on this thread, I think we still have a few set of the GT86 available at the discounted price. Another thing to bring up about this "Off Road Use Only" Clause, it is more for USA, but adopted worldwide. With USA, if a suspension isn't certified by DOT, it needs to be stated for "Off Road Use Only". That is why you see this with just about every suspension manufacturer in the world, it is mainly to limit the liability of the manufacturer. In UK, if the suspension are installed correctly, and passed by the VOSA appointed inspector (your MOT person), then it should be deem legal for road use. As far as I know, unlike Germany and surrounding countries that requires show of TUV certification for all road use products. There isn't a law in the UK that require owners to show "type approval" of a suspension before it is deem legal for road use. So the road worthiness of your car are to be determined by your MOT inspector. Hope that helps. Jerrick

Correctly installed your car will pass the MOT which makes it road worthy. You should always declare modifications to your insurer. Otherwise it could void it.

    Tein Coilover Spring Rate rationale

On our current MeisterR Zeta-R setup, the spring rate are 6kg/mm front and rear. A few customers who have been on the Zeta-R have no complain. As Kevin said, unless you are going way out of line you should be able to tune your suspension so the front end don't lose grip (understeer) before the rear. That is one of the good feature about an adjustable damper, because it will allow you to tune your suspension to your preference. By adjusting the damping, you can get the rear to lose grip first to "dial out" understeer. Also, just a side note: We got a 20% discount group buy happening that include the GT86. So if you are interested in a new set of coilovers , we got them currently at £615 delivered. This is for a complete set of coilovers including camber adjustable front top mount. MeisterR vs. Bilstein PSS9 Coilovers

Just to post up the latest update on this. Lucio have finish 1st place at Race 10 also. As you notice, there is only 3 competitors this round because they are the main challenger to the championship. With this 1st place finish, Lucio will lead into Race 11 and Race 12 on December 5th/6th at the Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Houston. However, it will be very tight as there is less then single place worth of points between the 3 competitors. So who ever do the best in the next two rounds will take home the championship trophy as no one has a big lead at all. We will report back with some news, hopefully it will be gold but there are no guarantee in racing. Jerrick
  13. A common question many owner ask: How does MeisterR coilovers compare to other brands? As coilovers are only part of a car's suspensions, and there are many other variable involved; it is often a difficult questions to answer. So I want to bring up a very interesting "test" that we will be doing. Here in Houston USA, I meet a driver at a local SCCA Auto Solo event name Lucio D'lsep. Lucio was an Italian racing driver back in the early 2000's, and have decided to get back into competitive motorsport after being absent for over 12 years. Here is a picture of him in the former glory days racing with Osella in Rechberg (Austria) back in 2002. Lucio's current car is a Honda S2000 daily driver that runs in the SCCA Auto Solo STR (Street Touring Roadster) Class. The good thing about the STR class is that the rules limit modification you can do as well as tyres you can use, thus creating a class that daily street driven cars can compete with each other. Suspension Issue Speaking to Lucio, he have been having issue with his car. He is using an off the shelf Bilstein PSS9 adjustable coilovers, and he just couldn't get the suspension to work with the car. The tyres just couldn't find grip and the body motion does not feel controlled no matter how he adjust the coilovers, so he is struggling to keep speed through the corners as well as keeping the car on the racing line. The result is lost traction as well as hitting cones, and this put a time penalty on his result. MeisterR Suspensions Change I thought this will make a great opportunity to test the MeisterR coilovers against Bilstein, and will keep things fair as we can get a qualitative (how the suspensions feel on the road) and a quantitative (Lap time) feedback on the same road car driven by the same driver in the same competitive event. So we got a set of off the shelf MeisterR Zeta-R coilovers, and swap the Bilstein PSS9 coilovers out. Initial Feedback on MeisterR coilovers The initial feedback by Lucio is positive after a few days of street use. Here is what Lucio have to say: Both the Bilstein and the MeisterR look like serious tools and not toys. The MeisterR out of the box are ready for the installation, the light weight aluminium top mount included with the MeisterR is the main difference when compared to the Bilstein that need to reuse the top mount from the original Honda suspension. After 12 years out of racing it’s the first time that I see a suspension with springs coil adjustments independent from ride height adjustments. This is a great improvement and it mean no more compromise when adjusting the ride height. Compare to the Bilstein, the MeisterR damping response and compliancy on the irregularity of the street gives you confidence. You are able to feel the grip and trust the car/tyres, and know that when the grip finish there will be space for correction. The accuracy of the steering is what impressed me the most with the MeisterR coilovers. The front of the car is on track followed by the rear even with the non-linear power curve of the S2000 engine trying to mess up your approach to the apex. It is also more comfortable on softer damping setting. If your potential girlfriend has already experienced sport cars, she will not complain about comfort as softer damping setting is not so far from the original equipment. SCCA Result with Bilstein The last round of the SCCA Auto Solo, Lucio finished in 7th place with 13 competitors total. While the lap time of 51.297 isn't slow, the additional penalties from hitting cones brought his result down to 7th place. The next round of the SCCA Auto Solo will be this Saturday 2nd of August, 2015. We will get the S2000 to the track and hope we finish on the podium, because when you race you race to win. We will report back in a few days time.
  14. Well, here is the finale: 90HP MX-5 + MeisterR Zeta-R Coilovers + Kumho V70A (185 R14) Base Lap time: 9:21 Final Lap time: 8:39 That is right, the coilovers and tyres knock a WHOPPING 42 seconds off the lap time! This 8:39 lap time tie the 90HP RingBanana MX-5 with a standard 240hp Honda S2000 driven by Horst von Saurma according to the Nurburgring lap time record… Enjoy the video. :) https://youtu.be/EvToQblt29Y Jerrick
  15. The latest episode from the Ring Banana is out… and talk about shocking (Pun intended). We all know that tyres has one of the biggest influence on the performance of a car, as they are the only thing that touches the ground. The Ring Banana set the base lap time of 9:21 around the Nurburg Ring, then knock 22 seconds off to 8:59 by changing out the 10 years old tyres to a set of semi-slick tyres. The goal of getting a sub 9 minutes lap around the Nurburg Ring with the 90 hp Mazda Miata / MX-5 was shattered on the first try. In an interests to find out how much difference will just the MeisterR coilovers make, they install the coilovers, do the alignment, and put the 10 years old road tyres back on for another go. We expected maybe a 10 seconds improvement, but nothing prepare us for the 27 seconds improvement that the coilovers provided! That is a 8.54 lap around the Green Hell with a set of 10 years old road tyres!!! Shocking performance from the new shocks! :) Full in car lap video can be found here: https://youtu.be/UpFi0dfRnUM Jerrick

    Coilovers: Low or Compliancy?

That is good because that is the "answer" I was hoping for really. The GT86 is a great handling car, and because of the suspension design there is a limited adjustment range if you want to keep everything functional. So our current coilovers allows the suspension to work as intended, but producing a suspension that will let the car go any lower will literally throw performance out the window. Therefore, if people want to have a suspension that go really low, it is something we can do. While we can still produce a functional and safe suspension that will go low, it will not perform as well as our current setup… and that will be a step backward that pains me. Good that no one on this forum is interested. Jerrick

    Coilovers: Low or Compliancy?

We have been working with some owners in the USA market and this questions seems to come up a lot. So we want to talk to the UK community to see what are the general opinion on this. Because of the GT86 suspension design, it is a rather "knife edge" in terms of having the damper short so you can go low, or having longer damper with more travel to provide better compliancy. Generally we strike somewhere in the middle so both can be achieve, but will be limited in the lowering range. However, many USA owners seems to go all out and use extremely short unit in order to go very low. I want to know if there are any owners who are interested in this type of "Super Low" kit or all around performance are the prefer suspension design. Jerrick

    Coilovers: Low or Compliancy?

That is good to hear. I am just looking at the engineering drawing for the GT86 and pretty much to make a suspension go any lower can our current offering, I am going to need to throw performance out the window. We can do it, but it isn't something I personally would like because I know it isn't going to perform. So the fact that most of you feel that there aren't a need to go "stupid" low is good feedback for us, because it mean we don't have to make a kit that I personally wouldn't like to be driving on. Jerrick
