There will be a few of us with different systems and combinations of manifolds with different air filters.

I have Tuning Developments Equal Length Manifold with Milltek Overpipe and Tuning Developments resonated System. TD’s systems are very good and made by JP for them and a lot of people are now switching over to them.

Thanks for your reply, that’s really helpful. I was thinking something which changes the shifting rpm when in auto mode might be quite useful, and something around throttle response when in manual mode. Seems like he’s done a few autos so he should know what is and isn’t possible :-) the economy one might have been useful last week when I was running on empty waiting for shell’s double points deal!

Funny you mention final drive - that’s on my to do list either at the same time as the TD ‘torque dip’ package or slightly after, depending on labour cost. Was thinking of going slightly higher though at 4.88, but it means importing from America, which is slightly irritating. Just don’t know if 4.67 will deliver what I’m after :-\ too many options!

I cannot comment on 4.88 as do not know anybody who has had it fitted but 4.67 works fine and you would see the change. Mike has MFactory 4.67 listed on his website and I have not had any problems with mine and would do this mod first as it makes a big difference. You will notice a slight wine as it’s a semi helical cut gear but it’s not intrusive.

Have a chat with Mike as he knows my car and can advise you.

@VAD17 which maps did you go for? As another auto owner, I’m struggling to see the relevance of the 4 “regular” maps (flat foot shifting, launch control etc. Crap fuel map is irrelevant for me as it’s never gonna get crap fuel 😂). Would be interesting to hear what you got. As Lauren asked - is there any particular reason you had your coolant hose wrapped in titanium? I was thinking of upgrading those to silicone hoses.

TD did my auto last year and had it a couple of times to get the map right for auto’s. Only 3 maps, one for economy/service, one for road and last one for sharper throttle for track. We did find the car bogged down on full throttle below 2,000 rev’s and Mike managed to dial it out as best they could (I have to use hand controls so can’t keep foot on brake and plant foot on throttle).

This is with there EL manifold and full resonated system apart from Milltek overpipe and very happy with results and ten times better than previous remap and system.

I have also had rear diff ratio changed from 4.1 to 4.67 which makes a big difference to the way the car drives and would recommend as the first mod to an auto. It lifts the revs in each gear and makes cruising on motorway a lot better and only drop a few mpg.

But having to have another set of wheels and tyres for sprinting, does put the cost up a fair bit and is more hassle of course. I like to drive to work, drive home drive to the sprint, do the sprint drive home etc. I don't want to be having to change over wheels every time there is a sprint. I like the simplicity of only having to wash my car in terms of preparation.

I was not meaning having another set of wheels but when time comes to change tyres having the option put on Michelin 4 for example.

Some very interesting points from all angles, I too looked at the cost between trackdays and sprints bearing in mind track time. But IMO a trackday  will use more fuel, brakes, tyres and general wear on the car, so pros and cons each way. Having said that it all depends on what each individual wants and how competitive you are, I want to do some trackdays in the mix to be honest as they are good for developing the car.

I wonder what buttons they have in X-Drive BMWs?

Whatever they have, it doesn't seem to work...?!

The maker of this video is clearly an Audi fan, but it made me laugh! Mostly because it was stuck BMWs causing most of the issues on friday night, and at one point when I was leaving a bit of 'run-up room' I was passed by an impatient Audi!

I have a BMW 1 series xDrive and for snow and off road you turn off traction control which BMW recommend. I have not been stuck in mud (I work in building industry and on site a lot) and had no issues in the snow.

I had Continental winter tyres on my previous Beemer and they worked really well with no problems.

Might pop out and try snow Mode in GT but tyres on wheelchair don’t grip to get to it lol!

All true as you say, I have driven 86's on light wheels and there is quite a difference in feel. For me the cost of light wheels was going to buy a lot of other mods. But nail on the head " seat time with a good driver " is the best upgrade for sure.

I agree with Kev and might be worth going to some club meets so see how cars sit/look before you buy.

lots of pics on the forum of meets as well to get some ideas.

I run TSW Nurburgring 17x8 et 35 which are spun forged with 225 Advan 105’s fitted. I liked the look of them and were cheaper than Rays etc at the time.

MSW are made by OZ are nice option if on more of a budget.

Just thinking, is a litre enough, or will I need two?

And thank you, you lot for all the helpful advice. Much appreciated. :)

Litre is enough and had my fluid changed at recent service/mot and had been in for couple of years with no problems. SRF comes in litre bottles so initially looks mega expensive but not that much more when you need two bottles of 500 ml from other brands.

At the end of the day we’re only talking of about £20 more than other brands

That's actually quite a lot cheaper than I thought it would be. Very tempting indeed. The four pots will fit under 17" wheels too.

I notice it comes with DS2500, which a lot don't seem to like. Are they going to be up to the job? I guess a much bigger contact patch and bigger discs will help.

I have had no issues with DS2500 and run braided hoses with Castrol SRF. As you know I need a lot of feel with my brakes and had no problems on or off track but AP set up looks good and very tempting.

  11. Kev, I left mine in manual mode to begin with just to get the damping how I wanted it. I then read through the manual a few more times and used the other modes with speed and G settings. After talking with Lauren and changing from Teins base settings it does work really well. I have three settings I tend to use and my wife can tell the difference and she is not a petrol head.

It's a case of trusting the system and let it do what it's designed to do.

Thats interesting. I called them few months back just trying to find out which companies offer insurance with track days included or with discounts for track days and was told they dont offer this.

Well, will find out if couple weeks time.

    Thanks again

Adrian Flux offer trackday insurance per event but was more expensive than Greenlight per event but cheaper than other companies. A F's competition insurance can be included for the year and three levels on value of insurance which was for personal injury.

    Hope that helps

  13. I was looking for insurance had a qoute from them and they were very help following recommendation from Keith. Which included modifications etc but I did ring round a few of the the other insurers who offer modification insurance.

I ended up going with Adrian Flux as they were the same as  Greenlight price and included breakdown recovery and they can includ track day and competition insurance where Greenlight only offer track day. They included all modifications and was fully comp for two drivers and usual two week cooling off period if you find a better quote.

They also offer club discount and don't restrict cover up to car value of £20,000.

If there are any other wheelchair users on the forum they also cover wheelchair damage/replacement in the event of accident plus hand control adaptations to vehicle.

I would of gone with Greenlight as they very helpful and the cheapest but Adrian Flux matched and included additional items.

  14. I am just having my fluid changed with mot and service next month. I use Castrol SRF as it has the highest wet boiling point of 270 degrees C, dry is 310 degrees C. Recommend change fluid every 18/24 months.

Its expensive but worth it and have not had any brake fade with braided hoses and Ferodo 2500 pads all round.
