  1. Thread resurrection time......

Just had an HKS Spec-L catback fitted - rest of zorst is std - but now my attention is turning to the torque hole and manifolds. (yes - I am probably doing this the wrong way round)

UEL preferred as seems to fill the hole best and makes the burble. There don't seem to be any CATed UEL manifolds anymore (HKS don't seem to make their's anymore).

Has anyone had any MOT emissions problems with just the OEM secondary CAT in their system?

Toying with the idea of Tomei UEL (poss +overpipe-is it worth it?)

Edit: Oh and any CEL problems? And how are they overcome?

Power is done on %age and is not that expensive an uplift. Other things like wheels are normally just declared without extra premiums.

oh yeah my wheels and a few cosmetic changes and fancy stereo upgrade are declared with no extra charge....i'm just considering a catback (on order) and was wondering what to expect when I ring the insurers.

I wouldn't waste your time with that one, it doesn't work. It seems the majority of noise is generated by the little metal collar used for the reverse lift lockout. I have a pdf which was emailed to me with a potential solution if you wanted it? Not a 5 min job though unfortunately.

I'd be curious to see it. It's one thing that really gets on my tits about this car. I'll PM my email.

I’ve had the buzz from the gearstick practically the whole time i’ve had the car - it’s only very occasional, and i didn’t believe there was a fix, so it never bugged me enough to take it to Toyota to complain about

Me too - but I read on the USA forum that there is a fix...apparently fitting a fatter washer behind the split pin where the shifter joins the linkage fixes it. I've not had the time or inclination to strip out the centre console to try it...yet ...but the gearstick rattle is getting worse - kicks in at 4500rpm most noticeable in 3rd.

Fair enough, I wondered what could've happened to justify a warranty claim on all four. I'm impressed they didn't write it off as wear & tear, that's the usual first answer!

I got 2 sets of wheels under warranty for corrosion with my Celica Gen7. The second time they let me keep both sets (I paid for tyres) so when i sold the car it had a set of unused wheels on it - that certainly helped the car sell for top money. :)

Does your passenger seat stay fixed when you pull the lever then? say you wanted to get into the back of your car, you pull the lever and you try to get in but it keeps sliding back so you can't get in. I thought that was a common issue.

    Mine always slides back.

It's really annoying when you've got the back seat folded down and you're trying to load a spare set of wheels into the back on your own.

My biggest gripe at the moment is the gear stick rattle when the revs hit about 4500rpm. It's getting worse and the car is now out of warranty so any fix would be at my own expense. I have read that fitting a thicker washer behind the split pin on the shifter joint fixes it but the idea of stripping out the centre console to just experiment really turns me off.

I have two other gripes (possibly related to each other) , one of which which I have managed to fix (HURRAH!):  My front wings started to sit proud of the doors and the bonnet sits higher than the wing on the driver's side. The sitting proud of the doors, which was getting worse by the day, took about 1 minute per side to fix!! There's a 10mm bolt in the door jamb near the bottom of the wing. Loosen it slightly, close the door, then carefully push the wing to line up with the door. Get someone to hold it there while you open the door and tighten the bolt. Job done.......as for the bonnet sitting proud of the wing on one side I suspect I'll need to reposition the hinge mounts but haven't bothered looking at them yet.

I've got the HKS HiPower Spec L. What would you like to know?

I’m just curious about the noise at 80-90mph 6th gear cruising. I drive to Germany regularly. To be honest after months of research I think I’ve settled on this pipe. I did think for a while that ‘stealth’ would be my preference hence my request for looking std but this HKS SpecL has kept haunting me. So much so that today I reserved one from the next shipment via James at Amber....I could’ve had a red carbon one tomorrow but I’m really not sure I could live with that colour so I have a month’s wait for a black one...

  8. Seriously tempted to throw the 'looks like standard' idea out of the window! - I love the look and sound (from youtube vid) of the HKS Spec-L with carbon tips!

Anyone got one and care to comment?

I am determined to get a catback on....noise* and looks are the priority (I suppose I'm a poser)....not really bothered about performance gains although filling the torque dip would be a bonus BUT I don't want to swap manifold as want to keep both cats - the planet is more important than filling the torque dip.

*When I say noise I mean a grown up noise, subtly louder than standard but not popping and farting and waking the neighbours or attracting plod loud.
