    Engine trouble!

Thanks Church and Ben. I'm still checking with the parties to make sure that this is going to work. When this is all over I'll drop a message here to help any other unforunates...

    Engine trouble!

Thanks Dom2497. Yes, the 8k was for a brand new Toyota warranted engine. Crazy cost when you consider the value of the car. I've found a local company who *may* be able to recondition the existing block. So I'm in discussions with them now. I'll report back if anyone's interested...

    Engine trouble!

Yes not via the Toyota dealer

    Engine trouble!

Hi Paul/Cerastes The dealer gave a 6 month warranty which has expired now. The engine noise is a load rattle, possible big ends or crank bearings (I'm told). The main dealer didn't strip but said they would not repair this type of failure, only replace it. Toyota very unhelpful and tried to blame it on the most recent service not being done by a Toyota dealer.

    Engine trouble!

Thank you all for your comments. Unfortunately, I didn't pay using a credit card and the dealer warranty has run out. Not sure if I have any come back on them so might take some legal advice on that. In the meantime, I've getting some quotes... Thanks again, Luke

    Engine trouble!

Hi, I'm new to the forum but would appreciate and help or advice you have. I picked up a 2012 GT86 last August from a dealer. Eight months on and with only 53k on the clock, I get some engine noise. Toyota dealer says I need a new short block (no further explanation given). Toyota won't do as a warranty repair but kindly offered to "help" by quoting me for a replacement block for a mere £8K. Not sure how to go about fixing this. Should I consider trying to repair the existing block, fit a 2nd hand engine or maybe a re-manufactured engine? Any thoughts or experience appreciated. Luke
