    Focal speaker upgrade

I second that the rear speakers are pointless. The focal kit is a decent upgrade and does sound much better with an amp. I ended up doing mine bit by bit until I was happy with it. First thing I got was the focals along with some sound deadening for the doors. Definite improvement but could tell they weren't being driven properly. Next up was a compact amp. 4x45w rms. Set in 2 channel mode to give 2x90w rms to front speakers. Rears are still in but not being used. Sounds much better and deadening helps a lot with mid bass and eliminating rattles. Next I decided to change the head unit. Went with an xtrons android unit. The one recommended in a thread on here. Improvement in sound again and it's actually quite decent. No doubt a major brand will be slightly better but as I'm only using pre-outs there's not a lot in it. And finally ended up getting an active subwoofer for some low end punch. Had to do some more deadening in boot and parcel shelf at this point due to rattles. I'm now happy with it and there's no rattles unless I'm really driving the system hard. I've spent roughly £900 all in. That includes a front dashcam for the xtrons along with a reverse camera. Bit more than I planned on originally but it now does everything I want it to.

    Subwoofer boot rattle

Thanks. I can deal with small vibrations. Turn up the volume enough and you can't hear them anyway. But these vents sound like someone had a bad curry the night before. I think it's more the thin plastic covering the vents from the outside to stop water ingress. When the sub kicks the air is forced through these vents and causes a horrible sound. Don't really want to block the vents they're obviously there for a reason. I'm going to order some thinsulate sound sheet to put between the vent and the boot liner. Hopefully muffle the sound enough to not be irritating.

    Subwoofer boot rattle

Hi, I've just installed a sub in the boot and I'm getting really annoying rattles even at quite low volume. I've sorted some out after looking at the guide on here and attacking with silent coat and bits of velcro. The worst of it seems to be coming from the air vents near the rear lights. I take it these are to relieve pressure when closing doors and airbag deployment etc. Has anyone had this problem and solved it? Thanks.
  4. Pretty sure it's marked up as 'ant' on a blue cable. You should have got a little card with the xtrons showing what cable does what.
  5. The Oem is 12v but the xtrons has multiple 12v outputs for aerial/amp. Pretty sure mine is wired to 12v and reception was fine when tested. But I never use it anyway so can't say how good it is on the move. I'll test it tomorrow.
  6. I downloaded copilot and as you said after dpi change you can agree and use app. Never used it before though and got something weird. Started journey and it just started reeling off commands. Turn left in 100, turn right in 100, make a u turn etc. With absolutely no bearing on the journey itself. Safe to say I just deleted it but take it this isn't normal?

    12v socket

What do you mean disintegrated? Not sure if it pops out but the console is easy enough to take out anyway and I'd be concerned about the 12v feed going to it isn't exposed.
  8. Something messed up. It's in with your message. USBDAB01 is the dab dongle. Comes with stick on aerial. While stationary the quality is miles better. First time I've used it today though travelling and the sound has been choppy with high pitched clipping so I'm not using it at the moment.
  9. Also I've just stuck mine in the small gap behind the trim piece next to the head unit. Works fine here.
  10. Why didn't copilot work? I meant to quote you in previous post about custom rom. Have a read. I'll try copilot with this see if it works now.
  11. Well after having a good play around I couldn't find anything that would work to properly secure the device. Done a bit of research and found that xtrons just rebrands a Chinese made unit. Most of these have the same hardware inside and so work with the same software. I've ended up flashing a custom rom on to the unit. It's now rooted. It has a pin code on startup. Has built in launchers and more flexibility to make it how you want it. Also the power button now shuts down and requires pin again on startup. There's also a power button on screen which allows a full reboot. Every feature of the unit seems to still work but I will test extensively over the next few weeks. To flash the rom you need to be able to enter recovery mode. I took the unit apart to find the physical reset button as I didn't want to poke about and damage anything. It's located in the small hole to the left hand side of the dvd drive. The hole on the right has the microphone so don't put anything in there. A toothpick with the sharp point cut off fits perfect. You have to hold the button in for about 10 seconds until unit restarts and flashes green 3 times. As soon as it stops flashing you release button and press it once again (not hold) but timing has to be right. I found tapping it a few times quickly for couple of seconds done the trick every time. If anyone is interested this is the rom [ROM][PX5][HD] Malaysk ROMs for PX5 (2-4 Gb) 8.0 Android Oreo any yet known MTCD-MTCE by Malaysk Found on xda forums
  12. What lock screen did you end up using? Can't seem to find any that work
  13. Well my xtrons unit arrived today. Ordered it on the weekend and they're not open until Monday so sent next day by Dpd. Good start! Got it all fitted. Like matt said very easy with just a small locating tab to grind off. Longest part was routing the cables for dab & front camera. Completely forgot to test with/without amp. Got distracted trying to find a 28pin harness I now need to retain steering wheel controls, reverse trigger & microphone. Looks a decent unit though and from what I've heard so far it's an improvement over stock. Dab is so much better on this.
  14. Looks good to me. Just remember to size fuse according to cable size. Wouldn't even bother with the rears especially if putting a sub in.
  15. Nice one. Thanks for the link. Bit pricey for a usb lead though. When mine arrives and I get it all setup I'll test it with/without an amp as I've already got an amp and the focals installed. Will let you know how much of a difference there is. With the stock head unit it's night and day but I'm not sure how good the xtrons amp is. I'm guessing it's still relatively low rms. Currently using high level inputs so I'm expecting some improvement using low level from the xtrons.
  16. Thanks for the review. I've ordered this same unit with the dab+ dongle, dashcam & obd dongle. Has anyone fit a reverse camera with this? I've got one currently working with the stock tas400 unit. Is it a case of connecting the reverse signal cable from xtrons unit to reverse signal from toyota loom? Power is currently fed from 12v acc. Also did you find link for USB adapter. Will this retain function of front plate & centre console USB?
