  1. Hi all, A while ago a stray stone that was thrown up by a lorry hit the very edge of my windscreen next to the offside A pillar. Even though it was a small stone and the impact wasn't severe because it was on the very edge of the screen it resulted in a crack which then proceeded to spread across my windscreen, forcing me to replace it. I've owned lots of other cars before and all the cars that I can think of have had a strip running along the edges of the windscreen which would have stopped this happening. I'm wondering if anyone on here has come across a product that would protect the edge of the windscreen on our cars, maybe a strip of soft low profile plastic?
  2. Hi all, I like the look of the latest US spec GT86 head unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto - https://www.toyota.com/86/86-features/technology/ . I'd be grateful if someone could tell me what the OEM part number is or which external company manufactures it and the model number. Thanks in advance, Ellis
  3. These are good tips guys. I'm really looking for a budget head unit that fits well, integrates with the standard GT86 USB socket, has Apple CarPlay (though Android Auto would be nice as an option), plays MP3s from a USB stick and has DAB. I assume that these would all be double DIN? I'm happy with the standard GT86 audio quality and have a facelift late 2017 model GT86 (if there are any differences in the fittings). I'd be very grateful of any recommendations that you can provide. Thanks, Ellis
  4. That’s interesting @vanko25, I was told by the Toyota dealer that I bought my car off that they also fit the DAB aerial and the locking wheel nuts at the docks too. Might explain why the DAB aerial isn’t properly integrated into the shark fin aerial - I have a MY17 facelift car.
  5. Thanks for the responses all. From following the link to ft86club.com it appears that US cars also have a reversing camera which displays the output on the rear view mirror? Is this standard fit? It looks like the US head unit does not have DAB, which is a shame. What head units that are CarPlay compatible do people recommend at the moment? Cheers, Ellis

Discount for October - NA Tuning Package

Thanks for the explanation @Mike@TD.co.uk. Bit shocking to hear how they're over quoting the outputs by such a margin!

Discount for October - NA Tuning Package

Thanks @Mike@TD.co.uk I'll have a look when I get home from work. Thanks @GravelRash. I'm a bit confused by the four MAX figures for HP. What do they equate to? Are two of them for torque LB/FT? Is orange before and red after? I guess these figures are for at the driven wheels as the standard later model cars are 205 PS?

    Hi All

There's a build thread on the pistonheads forums where a guy got hold of a CAT C or D writeoff deliberately so that he could mod it. That might be the way to go, I'm sure there'll be writeoffs around, if you want to use it on the road you'll need to make sure that the writeoff category is one where it can be fixed and put back on the road, the categories have changed but this used to be CAT C or D.

    Hi All

Not sure whether this'll interest you but here's a V8 engine swap article and there's more info on other ideas in the comments - http://www.speedhunters.com/2015/06/enjoying-the-scenery-at-11600rpm/

    New windscreen - DAB aerial??

Hi @Twigman, I had my screen replaced by Autoglass and they peeled it off by carefully sliding a razor blade or something similar down behind it, they had to do that twice too as the first replacement screen I had fitted was substandard and the black finishing strip on the A pillars wasn't parallel all the way along the side of the screen, ended up having to insist on a Toyota screen and one of their better fitters (they grade them internally apparently) to fit it. I seem to remember that when I asked the first windscreen fitter about removing the DAB aerial he said that if it broke when he did it it wouldn't be covered by their insurance as he was doing me a favour, might be worth checking this out before you have the windscreen replaced.
  12. I need some small scale repairs to paint on my car. Does anyone have a smart repairer (e.g. ChipsAway) that they can recommend in the Cheshire and surrounding areas? I've got a pearlescent car so I imagine that the work might be a bit tricky. Thanks for any help you can offer.
  13. Thanks for the recommendation @GoonerKev! I'll definitley get a quote off them.
