Seconded what Church has said. The Focal 165toy speakers are a simple upgrade and a massive improvement over stock. For ~£115 you can't argue! I upgraded the headunit to a Pioneer one (the Subaru base unit is shockingly bad) and added a tiny bit of sound insulation and the whole thing is night and day difference. Not sure I'd bother with going any further i.e. amps and subs as the car is a flimsy thing.

I'm in a similar boat, I have a 62 plate with 33k miles. The Subaru dealer is adamant it needs plugs and wants an eye watering £760 for the service!!! I spoke to them about doing the service without the plugs and they are happy to do this and will still stamp the book. So I'm thinking this is a win... ...they still want £445 for the service without the plugs. Sod a dog! It's just not worth it for a stamp in a book, I'll get it done at a local independant.

This! I’d have to check but I think my Pioneer unit is 50W x 4 which would be 35W RMS. But that’s missing the point; it’s more than loud enough and sounds great. Sure you can spend more, I’m only suggesting that you don’t have to for half decent sound. My ears stopped being audiophiles a long time ago so maybe I’m not the best judge but once you’ve got the 80% benefit you can spend a lot of money chasing the last 20%

The Focal speakers are a low cost (~£120) upgrade and instantly lift the sound of the car. They are a direct replacement with the right plugs so really couldn't be easier to install. I've hooked mine up to a Pioneer double DIN system and it sounds great. I don't think you need an amp, modern headunits are pretty pokey as it is. I also kept the stock rears connected. Everything, including connectors, came to ~£500 and I think you'd have to spend the same again to more to notice any great gains. But then you are into amps, subs and more complex installs which I've got too old for now!

It will cost you nothing to phone around a few dealers. I've sold a few cars that way in the past and got some good offers - I've also sold through AutoTrader only to find a Dealer buy the car!!! If they are offering you poor money then nothing lost. Definitely get the dings sorted professionally as it will just reek of tatty, unloved car and will only get poor money. You've also got nothing to lose with companies like webuyanycar.com - seriously! Don't knock it! I've had some poor, but not dreadful offers from them in the past and one time (when I did sell a car through them) they offered more than dealers had cars on their forecourts for. As for finance, either you pay it off and show the buyer a record of this or the buyer pays it off on your behalf and pays you the difference assuming you aren't in negative equity i.e. the car is worth less than the finance. If the car is worth less than the finance give the keys back to the dealer and haggle the difference.

Hello - Does anyone have any recommendations for an adhesive to stick Alcantara to plastic trim? The US guys talk about 'tack spray' but that doesn't get a lot of hits on a UK search. I can find plenty of glues which would probably do the job, I just want to make sure I use something that doesn't leach through. Thanks.

For sale: Full set (4 tyres) of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 in the OE size 215/45R17 Less than 200miles on the tyres – they even have the injection pimples on them! £275 collected from Brentwood, Essex It’s an obvious question but why am I selling a set of tyres having done such small mileage on them? They are an absolutely stunning set of tyres and will transform the handling of your car in both wet and dry conditions. Turn in is sharper and cornering is a much more confidence inspiring experience. If this is for you then you are about to bag an absolute bargain! It’s not for me and I’m going back to the stock Primacy HP tyres – they aren’t so good in performance terms but they do define the handling of the car. Profit from my fickle nature and get yourself an essentially new set of tyres for near on half price.

Bit of a long shot this one – I bought a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 just two weeks ago and have done less than 100 miles on them. They have, without a doubt, transformed the car. It turns in sharper, corners better and is altogether a more reassuring tyre, in fact it is hard to imagine a better tyre for the car. BUT… it’s not for me, I miss the playful nature of the Primacy tyre and as it’s not about cornering speed but cornering fun for me I’m looking to trade. So: For Trade – one set of as good as new Michelin PS4s for a similar set of Primacies! If you’ve done more than 1000 miles we might need to talk about some sort of cash top up but let’s see if anyone is vaguely interested. The tyres are on a mint, unmarked set of alloys so if you also had unmarked alloys we could even do a straight swap of wheels! The logistics without this could be a bit tricky. Like I said, bit of a long shot but if you’ve just picked up your new GT86 or BRZ and wanted to upgrade the tyres for free this is the deal for you!!! I'm in Brentwood, Essex.

Definitely interested - not sure how we'd sort out a trade with you being in Wiltshire, but assuming you'd be happy to swap rims as well (and yours are mint) then we could meet halfway with a trolley jack!!!

What sort of miles/remaining tread and what state are your alloys in (assuming we just changed wheels)? You Sir, are a gent! I may take you up on this if my dream offer of a new for new swap doesn't bear fruit. I'll let this thread run for a bit and see what happens.

If the revs dip when the clutch is open then it’s flywheel effect. Once the clutch is closed you’ve got much more inertia in the drivetrain so it shouldn’t dip quickly or rather it can only dip relative to vehicle speed. You’d never notice a lighter prop without getting rid of a lot more inertia but if you did it would add to the fast drop (and fast rise) of a lightened flywheel.

Just forget you have a left foot! Unless you’re confident left foot braking. Bury your right foot as much as traction will allow and don’t lift during paddle or automated gear changes up and down the box. You’ll only make changes jerky and make the car unstable. Doesn’t matter if they are slush boxes, single or dual clutch, the engine management will sort it all out. It really is a piece of p1ss and you have nothing to worry about.

What the hell did she scratch if with? I hope you had words! I’d have a sense of humour failure if that happened to me!!! Plastics are hard to fix. If you can’t rub it down to a point you are happy with then I’d think the best course of action would be to get one from eBay from a car being scrapped. I’d then be a d1ck about it with the girlfriend to make the point about her carelessness!!!

The mirroring/CarPlay is very good but it isn't all your apps unfortunately. It will support Spotify but unless there's been an update it doesn't support Waze so you have to use AppleMaps. Apparantly Waze is supported via the AppRadio feature, but until I googled to find out if Waze was supported at all I'd never even heard of the AppRadio feature which apparently my head unit has!?!? Looks similar to CarPlay but I'm puzzled as to the actual differences. I think it is basically Pioneer's version of CarPlay. I'll have a play after work and see if I can find this and see if I can indeed get AppRadio and Waze to work.

I've got stock pads on my BRZ and never noticed this, however I ran various different pads on other cars. What is usually termed as a 'fast road' pad has been okay, so Mintex 1144 were fine when cold, but Mintex 1155 whilst better on track suffered from that initial loss of bite you describe which does create a confidence dip when cold. It's worse than a confidence dip though because you actually aren't braking for that time. Church (and others) have got it spot on, you really need a more road focussed pad if you are on the road. I'd even argue that track pads aren't that safe on the public road because they perform poorly at cold temps.

Apologies if I caused any offence. Perhaps I short handed it a bit too much; I’m personally wary of ads with “he’res my car ive bin driftin round the lanes” there was an ad for a BRZ when I was looking with almost word for word that text. It doesn’t fill me with confidence and there are plenty of these cars about. I used to be into 205 GTis and anything that suggested that the car wasn’t being researched and looked after could spell big bills. But I think we’re talking a different fish here, even the oldest cars are only 5-6 years old, if they’ve got FSH and clear HPI what else is there to worry about!
