So signed up for Toyota 5+ club this year and now found out from dealership that it's been withdrawn as Toyota relax programme has replaced it
In a nutshell Toyota no longer give 20% discount to 5yr+ cars and now include 12month extended warranty (up to 10yrs/100000miles whichever comes first) with every service carried out
Seems great but on top of service and mot, I need aircon re-gassing £79 and handbrake needs adjusting which is another £79. Did challenge the latter as I have never been charged before in all my years of owning cars but they say neither interim or full service include adjustment.
Could have done with 20% off the total bill rather than 12m warranty lol

Insurance is so variable. For my 2015 gt-86 I pay under £300 business class 1 which is less than we pay for our other car a 2018 Yaris icon tech lol.
On my gen7 celica going from NA to supercharged with 275bhp cost £25 extra. I thought at first they had just quoted me the admin charge but nope that was all in.

Thanks and have confirmation email.
Found similar link via a few dealer websites but it's strange that any direct link on Toyota UK site has been removed. Even the blog about it that still up links to the service page that doesn't mention it any more lol
I suspect Toyota UK are quietly pulling it 🙄

Anyone got the link to the Toyota 5+ club registration?
I thought it was under servicing on the Toyota UK site but I can't find it anywhere?

I am in the market for a facelift GT86 front bumper. So I had a look on the Internet as you do. Unfortunately, as normally is the case, most of what was available was from the US. Price was around £300 ish, no grills or anything else just the bumper skin. This was direct from Toyota dealers in the states.
This sounded reasonable. I also read the thread posted by Tweedbean and his facelift BRZ front bumper cost him about £278 direct from Subaru. Again the price isn’t too bad. So I rang my local Toyota dealer in Wakefield, and was quoted £680!!!
Surely this is a mistake? I haven’t contacted any other dealers yet but just thought I’d post this on here and ask if anyone could recommend anywhere in particular for a facelift front bumper, grills etc?
Seems high
For reference back in Aug 2017 I got a quote for a preface lift front bumper, Left front wheehouse cover (arch liner to you and me) plus clips etc and parts total came to £245.77+vat at local Toyota dealer
Fitting and painting was something else though as total bill was £1252 which thankfully I wasn't paying as I was just trying to get an estimate for someone else lol

Is there a list somewhere of what the alarm light is trying to tell us.
Unlocked the car today and it beeped three times which suggests it went off. Pressing down the clutch without pressing the start button flashes the alarm light red a number of times equally spaced flashes which I presume is a lookup as to what triggered the alarm?
I did check the bonnet switch and bracket which seem fine.
Thanks

They have a battery that lasts a few weeks as it goes into a deep sleep mode after detecting it's not being charged and no movement. It charges when the ignition is on so isn't a drain on the battery. It wakes up and sends out location via sms at your predetermined intervals once movement is detected or ignition is turned on.
The version I have is the size of a matchbox and has a magnetic base which has held it exactly in place. Doesn't need line of sight either so easy to covertly install.

Does the 6yr body service apply to the gt86 too as I've never heard of it before and nothing mentioned at my 6th service?
-
Depends on what you mean.
My supercharged celica running PowerFC ECU displays knock sensor output and flashes the CEL rapidly if it goes above a threshold.
Anyway, It's tuned to use vpower. I got caught out once and had to use regular unleaded. The knock sensor increased significantly when I gave it beans with the unleaded so there was no placebo effect just cold hard fact and a busted engine if i didn't heed the warning lol
Why didn't it retard ignition? Well, It's not as sophisticated as stock ECU (or syvecs alternative) so cannot retard ignition in the event of knock. Its not usually an issue but glad I had it showing that day

I suspect they (Toyota) would argue coilovers voids the warranty on the suspension and possible the steering as it allows geometry changes outside of spec that could affect both of those?

I've got an Android head unit to go in, and I was just interested if there were any other signals/inputs worth paying attention to (beyond what's in the ISO harness adaptor).
The parking brake wire on the hu can't be left unattached as it's used to ensure your car is stationary before allowing video to play. It does this by the wire getting grounded when you apply the handbrake

It's basically lasted 2500 miles and obviously caused mayhem internally eventually. Service manager said it will probably need a new block and I'd imagine other parts.
31 minutes ago, BRZ-123 said:Interesting. Worth asking what they are getting. Your engine died of oil starvation as galleries got blocked by the over zealously applied sealant. May be pistons , may be bottom end but this is where I have no clue and am guessing.

And as there are also ones going opposite route with those lithium batteries for track use .. Priorities. Or maybe one should go similar as with brake pads, switching between two sets if it's for trackday or dd, in similar way with two different batteries, heavy lump for lockout non-driving charge hold, and one for summer (IIRC low winter temps also reduce max charge)/track days. One thing that kept me from going this route was not wishing to deal with learnt fuel-trim relearning on battery disconnect.
You don't have too relearn fuel trims. Get a 12v jump pack or spare battery (it can be small as you are Not going to start the car with it) and connect it to the battery leads before disconnecting main battery

Went with with the Yuasa YBX3031, 3000, 72Ah, 630A , 18.4 Kg, dimensions 26.0 *17.4* 22.5 (£74.49 delivered)
With it being 260mm wide rather than 230mm of our stock battery it fits the battery tray perfectly as there is just a few mm all around the base but still contained within the tray itself. The HSB072 at 26.9mm would have been resting on the raised edges of the tray.
So given the better fit and higher rating I would definitely recommend it.
Oh and used the Varta D47 disconnected on the Celica to keep power to the gt86 during change over so at least that battery has now been used this year 😂

The yuasa HSB072 seems to be proprietary to halfords
Is this a close enough match?
Yuasa YBX5069, silver 5000, 75Ah, 650A , 18.1 Kg, dimensions 26.9*17.4*22.5 (£85.97 delivered)
Or this one
Yuasa YBX3031, 3000, 72Ah, 630A , 18.4 Kg, dimensions 26.0*17.4*22.5 (£74.97 delivered)
Which might be a safer fit at 26.0cm as my battery tray recess appears to be less than 26.9cm wide unless i have the battery supported on the four raised edges of the tray which doesn't seem safe to me as they flex?
Still trying to work out what the difference is between a type 69 and a type 72 battery as they appear to be the same size and terminal config lol

4 hours ago, Dave7 said:I ended up with the Yuasa HSB 096 from Halfords (I think this is the model, please ask me to take/post a pic and confirm if you're not sure and about to go and buy!). 80 Ah for ~£115, and I couldn't be happier!
This one
The terminals are the opposite way around to ours?

42 minutes ago, Philip said:My experience of CTek Comfort Connectors on a wide variety of cars is that they always go from Green to Amber in a very short time (minutes or hours), so I wouldn't read too much into that.
I replaced my battery with a Varta 70Ah Blue Dynamic - cost £73.83 from Tayna. Certainly seems to keep its charge much longer than the (uprated) Toyota one which it replaced.
Yes, green is for anything above 12.65v. Amber is 12.65-12.40v. I don't think mine has ever been that high except for straight after charging lol
This one?
https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/varta/e24/
Did it fit ok as it's 30mm wider than our stock battery?
-
Indeed. The sorned Celica has the battery disconnected as it's running an apexi ECU for the supercharger so no trims get lost anyway lol.
If it wasn't for the fact that the gen 7 celica uses a 005L rather than a 005R like the gt86, I'd have used the varta D47 from that 😁

They are not factory fitted as only the UK has the thatchem approved alarm we have. Do the brz and 86 have the same alarm fitted at the docks?

1 hour ago, MartinT said:You're never going to notice the difference between 60Ah and 62Ah, LOL! There is plenty of cranking current, too.
The reliability and longevity of the battery is far more important and Yuasa are great here. Interesting that they have bought the Panasonic battery division, who supplied my original OEM battery in the BRZ.
Yeah, didn't mean to put 62Ah (cut and paste error) as I knew that was negligible lol it was more the 120-170CCA (if you end up with the 450CCA version) however thanks for the reply 🙂
As to yuasa buying Panasonic battery division....I best get in quick and order one of the existing stock lol

I definitely need a new battery.
Every time I charge it with the ctek 5.0 the charger goes from 3 lights to green in under 10hrs and the traffic lights on the comfort connector continues to flash green after the charger is disconnected. However by the following morning the indicator will be yellow and sometimes red.
Checking the usb dual charger in the aux port with ignition on but car not started that reads 12.0v but car starts fine. Once that drops to 11.9v is usually when the fun and games start lol
I assume from your username you have a BRZ? Different alarm and current drain?

1 hour ago, MartinT said:This is what I have, from Amazon. It's a drop-in replacement. Yuasa are highly regarded in the battery world.
I saw that on Amazon but it's £73 at the moment. The Amazon listing also can't decide on the CCA as searching for ybx3014 gets a result with 450CCA in the title but the thumbnail photo has 500CCA. However the 2nd photo shows a different label with 450CCA on it matching the title lol
Also both of these are less than the Toyota OEM replacement at 62Ah 620CCA?

Cheers for advice.
Maybe I have misunderstood the deep discharge then.
I was looking at it from the perspective that the typical user doesn't recharge their battery weekly so over a say 2-3week period the culminative discharge would be a lot and that's what I saw as deep discharge of the battery. All my journeys are no more than 15mins so I don't think that's enough to keep the battery topped up?
The UK gt-86 (presumably the alarm) seems to have a higher discharge rate and without use a new 60Ah battery will be dead in a month.
I do have a ctek 5.0. and it just so happens after a few days of checking Amazon have the 2.5m extension lead on sale for £11.99 delivered so I will have that Wednesday
Now I just need to get a battery to suit my use case 🙂 oh and our battery is a 005R but why is there other types that have the same dimensions and terminal positions lol?

So no one else have any comments re: using an EFB type of battery 🙂

Update. They only 🙄😂 charged £37.50 as it was on the visual safety check sheet and same on the invoice
I have looked through the service checklist and it says check brake pedal free play & parking brake travel. Its a black box for intermediate (which is what my car was in for) meaning not applicable to this service interval. It's a white box for full which according to the legend says check combined with white box means check and adjust, top up or report (extra charge for fluids)
Not sure where that leaves me as on one hand it wasn't even meant to be checked but on the other it needed doing and so they charged me for out of service work?
