    oil cooler

Ian... despite the disguise you're a real petrolhead... Agree with you about a cooler for track use, Lauren. My oil temperature is running at 80-90C in the sump but the Torque app shows temp in block at 95-105C. This is road use - on track oil temp according to Torque goes up to 105-120C . Snetterton will be my first chance to see what the sump temp reaches on track. Also the additional oil used to fill the cooler itself - mebbe 1litre? - will reduce the running temp as well, as it adds 20% to the oil volume... fitting a cooler is on my 'to do' list.. ( actually, what I mean is 'get Fensport to do' list... ) Spec K

It was only a matter of time......

Why? I cannot for the life of me see the advantage of doing both - can anyone explain this to me? A properly evolved Ecutek re-map (as offered by both Fensport for turbo and Abbey for s/charger) mitigates any perceived power 'rush' at a damn site less cost than a doubled-up f/i system.. It's a shame they give the power/torque outputs in gobbledegook..... can anyone translate? (I've fallen in love with the Toyota FT1-concept car...) Spec k

    plates

Quball - are you talking about the vehicle registration plate - what is termed a 'cherished number plate'? Buy it from wherever you like, providing it is on a 'Number Retention Certificate'. Otherwise it's a pain in the a*se to transfer it from another vehicle - which has to have a current MOT certificate, whether it's scrapped/written off or not... and it cannot be from a newer car than the one you're putting it onto.. and it must be a UK plate... It won't make any difference to your insurance premium (other than a possible 'admin charge' for changing your policy). Full details/costs can be obtained from the DVLA website. Spec K

As the meeting point is only 20 mins from me I'll see you all there... ... the map shows the wrong place (Hotel) - use the postcode for Thurrock Services.. Spec K

    Lauren's AE86

I really liked Tom's attention to detail, Lauren... and his 'parts layout' is a salutory lesson on how to do it..... he may be overqualified but he demonstrates a real empathy with your lump of old cast iron... It reminds me of the hours and hours my Dad spent working on the Del-Boy Reliant engine for my first 750F car.. lapping in valves was a labour of love... 58bhp out of a n/a 650cc lump seemed magical back then, the F3 Holbay 1 litre 'screamers' were only producing 110bhp.... happy days... 11. <chuckle> You're going 19"... ?! You'll definitely need big brakes... the OEM disks/calipers will look stoopidly small inside those rims, I reckon! What tyres are you planning to run? I suppose you can go up in profile if necessary as you're running the 4.7 final drive, yes? Spec K

    RIP John Button

I was at Lydden Hill in 1972 when John Gott - Chief Constable for Northants - had a heart attack at the wheel of his Austin Healey 3000 and was killed. (At least, that's what the post mortem said..) What a way to go, eh?... doing what you love to do... Spec K
  13. Rab, it's not only the cost of the AP brakes - it's also 18" rims. That's a lorra lorra money... It's why I've gone for Stoptech disks and K-Sport calipers - they fit inside the 17" rims, although if you change the bottom suspension arm (I've gone Summit) you also need to fit Eibach hubcentric spacers if running the OEM rims. New new new...

Well done Teg! (Oh, and Mrs. Teg - she probably helped a bit..). Don't forget to swill out the baby's bottle with Castrol 'R' racing oil.... start 'em young, I say... Spec K
  15. Nice pub! Might visit it again some time... Be warned - satnav is totally wrong, takes you up a tiny country lane.. the pub is actually 30 yards further along from where you turn into the lane off the main road.. (It was nice and icy... slippery...) Spec K

I found that it added bhp and torque on the prototype Mark made for me.. albeit that was with the second cat deleted and a H&S HFC installed to replace it.. Spec K

    Deacons '86

Deacon, that's impressive for n/a wheels... well done Mark ! And I do like your choice of maps.. I'll be very interested to hear your feedback after you've got used to Map 3.. rev blipping and flat foot shifting are 'standard' on the auto and it was, to my mind, an 'ace in the hole' compared to manual.. looks like we've lost that advantage... Winter tyres

5 degrees here at the moment... frost is just starting to disappear, I've not been out yet. I have to say that my winters are the best 'wet weather tyres' I have ever experienced on a road car. They clear standing water without any aquaplaning at all.. and I'm talking deep stuff, not just casual... Spec K
