  1. Afternoon guys and girls.

I was having a think last night and started to ponder whether it would be possible and cost effective to upgrade an NA engine for power gains, like a stage 1 upgrade ...

My thoughts are, to get more power you need more air, more fuel and a better spark, so could you potentially upgrade the following parts to gain considerable (maybe 50BHP) power...

    I was thinking;

    - Full Manifold back exhaust

    - UEL header

    - Some sort of better air intake (not sure on this one, without a turbo how could we improve the air ?)

    - Upgraded fuel pump

    - Upgraded, bigger fuel injectors

    - Some sort of Air/Fuel regulator / Piggy back ECU?

    - Better gapped spark plugs

    - A different Thermostat?

Could the above actually be worth the investment, am I missing anything?

I wanted to get a conversation going, and ask if anyone has actually tried to gain more BHP on a NA engine, with more than just filter, exhaust, remap e.t.c

Quieter or louder in addition to own subjective feel of what is what also may depend on use. I would love louder exhaust for short trips or on track .. but if i often cruised on highways for few hours each trip, i'm sure i'd get tired from loud constant noise and would prefer quieter one.

In ideal world all the exhaust offerings would have remotely actuated valves to make it quieter or louder on press of a button :)

There is an exhaust like this! http://www.fi-exhaust.com/product/toyota/86.html

I enquired before I purchased mine, I was quoted ''Catback system of Fi exhaust for Toyota GT86 includes: Mid pipe + Valvetronic Muffler + Titanium blue dual Tips with remote controller module, and the price is USD 2,500.''

The local installer in UK is http://eurocharged.uk.com apparently.

I didn't pursue it because it's far too expensive.

  3. Yep mines exactly what is on the link.

The resonated version is extremely quiet compared to other aftermarket exhausts, I have had people make statements of 'Have you actually changed the exhaust?'

Which is perfect in my eyes, as I am to change the front pipe, over pipe and manifold at a later date... should mean it's not overly loud when it's all done.

Our exhaust parts are designed to fit with the stock items. So long as your CAT Back fits on a stock car, it should be compatible with our parts.

Our manifold works well and we're very busy with removing torque dips currently :)

    Thanks

    Mike

    Good stuff!

Yep my Scorpion system fits the stock front pipe, I may have to have a look on your website.

  5. Hi all,

    Looking for some advice.

I have installed a cat back Scorpion resonated system (https://www.scorpion-exhausts.com/toyota-gt86-2012-2015-resonated-secondary-cat-back-system-daytona), it's quiet which is perfect.

I am now looking to get the front pipe, overpipe and manifold done...

Now Scorpion does a secondary cat delete and overpipe. (https://www.scorpion-exhausts.com/toyota-gt86-2012-2015-secondary-catalyst-replacement-de-cat) & (https://www.scorpion-exhausts.com/toyota-gt86-2012-2015-downpipe), however, they do not do a manifold...

My question is, is it worth getting the other scorpion products to make a complete system and then a different manifold, or is there a better different approach?

FYI, I want to keep my Scorpion cat back, this is not changing. :)

  6. So the brakes are on, the black didn't stay black for long, but that's okay.

    After an hour of driving...

The brakes are great, I would highly recommend them to anyone, I haven't managed to push them too far yet as only installed a few days ago, but we'll see :)

Little additions too, I have my GT86.org.uk sticker on now, I removed the stars and such, personal preference.

It's subtle but readable as you walk past so I'm happy.

And finally, I've been looking at the rear lower light for a while now, and how on a black car it just, stands  out too much so I wanted to 'flyeye' or 'smoke' it.

    ubEdIiLl.jpg

I couldn't be bothered with the hastle of removing the light (which later on I would realise removal would have been so much easier ), so I decided to go down the template route...

    I created my template ...

Cut the Flyeye out using the template...

And viola, the above description makes it sound easy... it wasn't... It was painful!

Overall I'm happy with how the car is turning out, next will maybe be alloys, but I like the originals if I'm honest but would like a little more 'poke'.

  7. Next up, brake upgrade.

I have gone for EBC USR Series slotted and vented discs all round, with EBC Greenstuff pads.

Toyota wanted £790 for crappy OEM pads and discs that squeel like hell, so this made sense.

    :)

I've been working through a few bulbs recently, these are what I've fitted so far:

Essential maintenance this time, none of your frivolous modding rubbish :)

New Stoptech pads and Goodridge SS lines all round. I don't know what pad combo the PO was running but I wasn't impressed by the bite or how quickly they started to fade. Much happier today on the spirited ride home. Looking at the good condition of the lines which came off, I suspect the pads have more to do with the performance improvement than anything else. Very pleased.

I also took the yolks out of the fried eggs, front and back. i did try LEDs first but they weren't kicking out the light output I was expecting, so they'll do as spares.

No pics but I also had some camber bolts fitted up front, a geo and a super pro gearbox mount insert fItted. This last bit of maintenance has raised a small buzz in the cockpit, nothing noticeable with the tunes on, but has tightened up shifting nicely.

All in all some pleasing maintenance making her feel just that little bit sharper all around.

    Looks good.

Can I ask you to link the bulds you used?

That info would be great :)

Thanks mate, I'll chuck you a PM.

I paid more than £150 in Blackpool for a single correction polish, good luck in West London. If you wanna save the cash, you'd be better picking up a second hand DA and learning.

I know I'm not holding much hope but you never know! I'd love to learn, I feel on my GT wouldn't be the best starting place.

  11. Hi all,

I have been doing some research recently into getting my car detailed.

Now I don't want to spend in excess of £150 which limits my option somewhat.

Here are some pictures of how flat my paintwork is...

    smVZVcY.jpg

I also have a heap of stone chips on the front bumper but I know I won't get that done too with the above budget.

Does anyone know of any local detailers that don't charge the earth and have been tried and tested?

I'm starting to think it's a quirk of the car. My offside rear pad squeaks when the brakes are not on. As I've had it before and it was sintered bit of pad, I've opted not to worry about it. It is quite annoying though!

    Yeah, that's what I'm thinking!

I have a new exhaust now, so that covers the noise a little :D

  13. I was just about to start a thread regarding this exact issue!

I have noticed this on mine too, seems to be coming from the rear left, squeaking when the wheel rotates, but only at lower speeds.

My common sense told me something to do with the pad and disk, maybe slightly fouling?

    Strange!
