    Known Issues

Some of our cars are coming up to four years old now so I just wondered if there are any known/common issues we should be looking out for? Mine's only done c. 45,000 miles and the only wear and tear items to be replaced have been front discs. Pads have been replaced front and rear but they're consumables like oil and tyres really. I've also had a coil-pack replaced under warranty after it kept going into limp mode after a sound thrashing. That was >20,000 miles ago and no repeat since. Anything else to watch out for on standard(ish) cars?
  2. Thoroughly enjoyed my time in the GT86, one of the best 'drivers' cars I've driven. I'll miss it, but 4 years is way longer than I've kept a car before so it has to go. Ginger Jap's been sold, new guy's collecting Wednesday. Sayonara!

    Harrop/Eaton S/C

Grateful thanks to Mark at Abbey for a spin in their supercharged ginger ninja. The best way to describe how it feels to me, is like a decent sized V8. Very different to Dave's turbo which while I really enjoyed it, (and it has a fair bit more grunt) I just preferred the delivery from Abbey's Harrop. In it's standard tune, as-is, it's not mid-blowingly quick but has a great surge of low-down grunt that builds and builds. It's plenty fast enough for my needs and I'm sorely tempted, but haven't decided one way or the other. Yet. If I could have two cars on the drive, I'd do it in a heartbeat, and keep a NA and get a S/C car too. I'm just concerned that I'd miss revving the tabs off my NA engine - I really enjoy it the way it is. It's just the rare occasion when it would be nice to ride a wave of torque from what feels like a lazy, yet urgent V8. At the moment I'm a definite maybe. It'll be a month or two before I make a decision anyway - plenty of thinking to be done.
  5. I have the engine light on again, Torque app reports P0351 & P0352 this time. Had one coilpack replaced under warranty a couple of years ago - now another two. Awaiting callback from dealer...

I'm still here, though me ginger jap went last Wednesday. Just popped in to say I took an MX-5 RF (2.0l) for a test drive on Saturday. I'd recommend you try it - if you like the GT86 there's a good chance you'll love the RF.

Chipping Sodbury. Not my first choice, black. I'd wanted red or blue but nothing with the right spec. This one's loaded so hope to be a happy chappy when I go to collect it tomorrow. You'll love the gt86, they're great fun. Enjoy!

Z4. After more than four years in the 'edgy' Toyota, a somewhat more relaxed and refined waft-mobile is in order. The Zed's no drivers car, but it's fun and I've missed having a droptop. It's the 3 litre twin turbo with 7-speed DCT (sDrive 35i).

This is not bad news - new short engine fitted by Toyota under warranty! While the engine was out I took advantage of the situation and had a new clutch fitted, new spark plugs and new battery. This was a massive saving in labour costs for me, and a nice bonus for the next owner. Run-in complete and it's running sweet as ever.

    worth buying

Depends how you define daily driver. I've had mine from new, 4.1/2 years and 56,000 miles - great daily driver for me. I'm single, rarely have passengers and have just a ten mile each way 'commute' through lanes and B roads. Not a fan of Audi full stop, so can't offer opinion on what I perceive to be an overpriced dull barge.
