@smudge have there been any developments on your kit? what are you leaning towards? @rob275 i can understand the complications of having water injection with the sprintex kit since it's part of the manifold. On this HKS kit however it's much easier since there is piping between the charger+intercooler and the throttle body. So, are you saying that the IAT sensor or whole MAF was positioned there? Or could you be referring to the MAP sensor? The reason i wanted the water injector so far back from the IAT is because i want to measure real charged air temperatures going into the engine as it has been cooled down by the water injection. Also, was there another methanol injection thread? i tried to find one in order not to double post but couldn't find anything?... Thanks Chaps Andrew

Fantastic job! Lovely car! Well done

Speed Academy just did an engine change. wow! i was super impressed at how easy it was! @Nigelr32, @Fensport, @Abbey Is it really that easy?
-
From what i can see they're actually using the engine hoist mounts not passing the chain under the manifold! i was shocked too! So if we don't have those fuel line connectors, how do our fuel lines connect?
-
Wow rob! this kit seems to be like a right pain... or the guy you dealt with was just hole where the sun doesn't shine much! What are you using to get the sealant off? Did you try some WD-40? Good Luck rob

Hey all, I have a question which i've been thinking about for weeks and think it's best to discuss here. As you all know i have fitted an HKS V2 Supercharger. Along with that i have also fitted the HKS Spec-S Oil Cooler. Question is this: how do you change the engine oil and effectively flush out all the oil in the oil cooler, cooler lines etc etc? The RX7/8 rotary guys usually run compressed air through the oil filler neck and low and behold the oil squirts out the sump drain. But i'm not sure if it's the correct method to do so with our engines! Thanks in advance Andrew

Here is a reference of my bone structure and some flesh just in case you ever see me wandering about the streets of london! And this is my beauty, the one that makes me smile every single day

Nige... please ;( How am i going to build my own engine if i have no one to copy pictures from? @Tareim is right, probably just a bad joke! Cheer up

loool rob! Keep us updated with the response from SSP Keith, i'm very curious to see what they have to say now... Goodluck

How did i not see this thread? hahah! Keith, thanks for the lovely words, it was a pleasure having you over, we're all in it for the same thing, the love of cars! I think i'm quite right in saying that the majority of 86/BRZ owners are quite like minded ( minus the quarrels ). Thanks for the yacht charter, we really had a blast! Spec K is right, we do kind of struggle with basic motorsporty stuff like a track or some basic, decent fuel! having said that, very little stops us! Anyone who ever wishes to come over please drop me a message and i'll make the necessary arrangements to free up as much of my time as possible! (@Nigelr32 i'm looking at you! After getting the chance to meet keith nothing can break my opinion about the forum members :P ) I simply love this forum, everyone is so helpful, nice, and not afraid to rip the warranty sticker I come up to London every month or so on work related stuff, but i'll be definitely be coming up with my car to meet all of you and pop a couple of beers @Lauren maybe we can do some twin-drifts as i've heard you're quite the tail-happy gal any high speed drift tracks around? have a great day all

Wow! awesome info! I'm sure it will be very useful! great work! Yes Special K is right, i did program the auto-fold mirrors when locking and unlocking the car. i could have taken the easy way out by buying a module but since a friend of mine prints custom PCBs i decided to build my own circuitry with an ATmega micro-processor and other bits and bobs and do it myself. Thanks for the info @Gringosteve!

Do members or premium members get traders discount.
iddrew replied to remal's topic in Non GT86/BRZ General Chat
going to butt in here, rob feel free to correct me. This majority of the forum is accessible to all the public. If you are a normal registered member you can see the photos posted in the threads. You also get a discount from traders. If you are a premium member (paid the fee of 12.50 i believe) you get access to a couple more exclusive stuff, track day discounts, and further trader discounts correct? -
Hey Guys, Dropping in to update everyone on what's going on at the moment! (I know i've gone a bit silent on my build thread but don't you worry, lots of info coming soon. spoiler alert: it's going well ) Anyway, So i picked up this mad old man up from the airport on Friday night that goes by the name of "Keith"! I thought it would be funny to wait for him in the Arrivals area holding up a Special K cereal sign! He walked right passed me though ;( I spotted him from his Custom Fensport/Toyota embroidered jacket (really jealous about that one!) so i chased him and eventually met up with him. After loading up the luggage into the back of the very spacious GT86 we headed off to his hotel. Not too shabby i must admit! spitting (literally) distance from the sea! A couple of beers + 2 hours later we were still at it, talking, laughing having a good time in general, before we called it a night. This morning i picked Keith up from the hotel, we went to sort out his rent-a-car, got it back to the hotel, and made our way to a lovely restaurant (which Keith seems to have fallen in love with) for what i must say was a SPECTACULAR lunch! Beer, Wine, oysters, cigarettes the LOT! We were there from around 12 till 6PM! Awesome time we had exchanging stories! We have plans to catch the ferry tomorrow and spend the day on the small but lovely island of Gozo! This guy is a total and utter nutter! True petrol head! Love him! More to come

An update to Spec K's visit : Keith was kind enough to invite my girlfriend and myself on a yacht he chartered this week! What a fantastic day it was! We sailed around the maltese islands, stopping at the tiny island of Comino and having a swim in the blue lagoon! Followed by lots and lots of wine & beer we headed on to another quiet bay, ate some nibbles and carried on sailing! Keith was teaching us the ropes (pun intended) in sailing. had me and my girlfriend do a maad 360 turn with the yacht! great stuff. Unfortunately we had to cancel our dinner reservations as my on-call phone started ringing and i had to go to work in the evening. Today i picked up Keith from the hotel and we headed to the local (and only) drag stip. Met my racing team mates, again opened a couple bottles of wine, and had a great time! Below is a picture of all of us together along side my buddy's Amuse Widebody S2000, MY HKS GT86, and my other buddy's drift missile Skyline R33

Admin, i don't know if this should be in Mechanical of Electrical section so feel free to move it. So, my question is, since i'm now going forced induction, fuel in Malta is not so great, plus i want to take care of my engine, do you know of some kind of gauge of monitor or device etc etc that can monitor knock readings? Maybe also show highest knock reading? I'm really REALLY scared about knock and would like to keep a close eye on it. Thanks

excuse my ignorance but what system does not do live logging? ECUtek does live logging right? while the engine is running you can "Map Access" and see the values change in real time and log them correct? Or am i missing something here?...

I can also vouch for Fensport! I am also far FAR away from the UK (in Malta) and Adrian has also mapped my car with an HKS V2 Supercharger. Apart from the fact that he's a fantastic guy, he really is a master tuner. At a reasonable price, Adrian has been weeks fine tuning my Map and i must say it feels great! Highly recommended!

haha yeah you were all right about the wine We've got it under control now though (not at all) Last Sunday we had a fantastic day in Gozo! roaming around the island in the 86, we then went for another lovely lunch at Ta' Tmun restaurant (obviously with a nice bottle of wine to compliment the meal), carried on sight seeing, stopped at the beautiful Azure window for an ice-cream and at about 6PM caught the ferry back to Malta. Below is a picture of us at the Azure Window (YES! i managed to finally get a pic of Keith on the forum SUCCESS! ) @Nigelr32 oh we had that discussion alright! hahaha

Oh yes Lauren! i've learnt! Thanks for the tip
-
Awesome stuff Spec K! Really happy that you finally got your monster back (all beefed up ) The Fensport gods really know their way around the 86 it seems! Glad to know i'm in good hands too (from over 2000 miles away ) When are we foreigners going to see some videos of 1 of the cars all of Europe is raving about?!?! WE DEMAND MEDIA!!! :D Enjoy mate

As @Mark-in-Stoke said the oil discussion thread has lots of useful info. I'm in Malta and after consulting lots of people (including @GT86Jay who has an HKS GT Supercharger V2) i decided to go for Motul 300v 5w30 for my HKS V2 SC build. I'll monitor oil pressure and temperatures and report back. Depends on how much you're going to be pushing your car i guess and temp you're going to reach.

Thanks guys for the info, really detailed. I didn't know racerom is so advanced! It's now extra piece of mind when it comes to tuning. Thanks a lot guys

It would be awesome to have some device that in real-time can monitor octane levels, would prevent so much damage by incorporating it into the ECU's maps. however i'm not aware (doesn't mean it doesn't exist) that such a device exists. Current flex fuel sensors just measure the Ethanol content (much easier to detect and calculate than a RON octane level) and output it.
