  1. Wide-ranging question, I know, but does anyone regret going turbo with their GT86/BRZ? I'm not talking about the cost, because it's never worth it come resale. I'm more interested in any bad aspects compared with OEM. For example: * throttle response? * reliability? * quality of mapping? * heat management on track? I have a supercharged Mx5 Mk3 that is so much better than when it left the factory, but it has taken a long time to iron out the above to my satisfaction.
  2. Hi, Does anyone have a cable that they want to sell? Cheers, Paul

    First service - how much?

Subaru BRZ - local Subaru dealer quoting £255 for a first service. Seems a little steep - it's only oil, oil filter, pollen filter and a few checks Is this the going rate? Thanks.

Don't know if it helps but Blink Motorsport in Cheshire can test shocks on their damper dyno. http://www.mx5nutz.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=212986&hl=%2Bdamper+%2Bdyno

    Custom Trimmed Steering Wheel

Jack did a nice job on the wheel on my Mx5 mk3. I would definitely go for the exchange option though as he is very busy and lead times can be a bit variable...

    First service - how much?

http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2012/09/fuel-economy-race-brings-expensive-oil-to-inexpensive-cars/index.htm " We generally support any technology that can improve fuel economy. But in this case, we wonder whether some consumers who purchase new cars may feel blindsided by the increased cost of their oil changes. And since 0W-20 mainly only improves fuel economy for the first few seconds of driving, we question whether the fuel economy gains are really worth the added costs for consumers over the life of the car. First service - how much?

LOL - Bulldog Subaru have corrected the oil now but I have no confidence in them at all. Here's the email from after sales: Sorry for the delay, had to pop out yesterday. You are correct the factory fill is 0w-20 fully synthetic oil. This is a recommendation as a world wide oil fill. The 5w-30 fully synthetic is also listed by the factory as suitable oil. We have been favouring the 5w-30 as a better suited all round oil for our climate in the UK. Both grades are perfectly expectable to use. If you prefer we use 0w-20 fully synthetic then we have no problem with this, I am also happy to use this at no extra cost to you. I love the bit "I am also happy to use this at no extra cost to you" - so you bloody well should at over £250 for an oil change.

    First service - how much?

Thanks Mike - shame you're not a bit closer Is the 0W20 for emissions/fuel economy or is it genuinely the best oil for the car when used on the road? I assume that genuine parts means the warranty is intact. Do Subaru have electronic service records yet (like Mazda) or still stamps in the book? Any good independents near Reading?

Reading - local Subaru is Bulldog in Tywford - don't think they have sold many BRZs.

    First service - how much?

Thanks - unless the Subaru dealer will reduce their price I'll probably go with Toyota. The only difference seems to be that Subaru includes the pollen filter - an easy change and dirt cheap with a BluePrint filter. Subaru Quote Parts (pollen filter, gasket, oil filter) £41.47 Oil (Castrol GTX 5w30 - is this really the crap that our cars use?) £48.33 Labour £120.38 VAT £42.04 Total: £252.22

    GT86/BRZ forum split

Yup - that swung it for me. The WR Blue is gorgeous.
  17. I bought a spare set of OEM wheels for my BRZ but they came with Toyota wheel caps. A long shot, but does anyone have Subaru caps that they would like to swap for Toyota caps? Makes me think of Multi-Coloured Swap Shop from the '70s/'80s

    New BRZ owner

Collected my BRZ last week - haven't stopped smiling since. It's a great car - I suppose it had to be, as it replaced my long-term Integra Type-R (DC2). Anyway, thought I'd say hello and upload the obligatory photo...
  19. Thinking about getting some Project Mu HC800 pads for the BRZ. Mostly road use with a couple of track days per year. Has anyone used them for an extended period of time and can comment on cold bite, dusting, noise, etc? I had some Carbotech XP8s on my Mx5 and they were fine for a few days after each track day but then got progressively noisier at low speed stops - just want to check that the HC800s won't be the same!

Project Mu brake pads - long term test?

Many thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll try the Hawk HPS pads first.

Project Mu brake pads - long term test?

Thanks for the comprehensive reply. As I suspected, it looks like HC800 are going to be too noisy on the road for me BTW, Axxis Ultimates work really well for both road and track on my Mx5 so perhaps I'm looking for something more like these. Thanks for the tip on the Cosworth Streetmaster - will look at these too.

    Track Days

Bedford is a good call for a track day, especially your first one. I usually take my mx5 turbo to trackdays but ended up taking my BRZ to Abingdon last month - std tyres, std brakes and it went great. In fact I enjoyed the BRZ on track so much that I'm taking it to Bedford on the 19th http://opentrack.co.uk/epages/8f6001fa-6391-406b-b2c4-02ec9ed70325.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/8f6001fa-6391-406b-b2c4-02ec9ed70325/Categories/2015_Track_Days

    Thanks folks. GT86 ordered

It's fine with me and two children (one sits in the passenger seat with the seat quite forward and the other sits behind the passenger seat). However two adults and two children (even relatively young children) is a struggle - unless one of your children is Flat Stanley, of course
