  1. Interesting, I think I'm inclined to go for the just drive it approach, it makes the most sense to me. Not quite sure what you and Lauren mean by labour it? As in foot planted at very low revs?
  2. Is this true? I get mine soon and unsure whether to thrash it or not.

The 5 axis spoiler is very nice, but unfortunately it would require the holes to be filled on the boot lid (unles you have the Primo lid of course)
  4. Its like comparing apples to pears. Totally differently designed engines.
  5. Or if you WANT to, everybody tinkers with their cars because they want to, not because they have to. Personally if I was going to be pumping vast amounts of money into FI, bigger brakes, wide grippy tyres then I would of just bought a Cayman. Kind of goes against the principles of the car.
  6. Hi all, As the title suggests I'm after some 20mm wheel spacers, I need 2 sets (2 pairs). PM me with what you got Cheers, Matt

    Thanks folks. GT86 ordered

Congrats on your purchase! Puzzled how you got away with a 2 week wait though, I've been waiting for mine for 3 months...

    11,600 rpm anyone?

My thoughts exactly, despite having 11000rpm to play with he left it in the same gear pretty much the entire way round.

    Debadge...or not?

Another vote for de-badge. Too much chrome going on round the back end.

    11,600 rpm anyone?

Id absolutely love one, that is amazing, however going by the original JUN article the full drop in conversion is $70k which is £32k, waaayy too expensive if thats true.

It's not NA though is it lol. Forced induction is forced induction whether it's generated by gas, belts or electricity. I'll be interested to see how you get on with the ESC (confusingly ESC stands for Electric Speed Controller too), i love the ingiuity and the fact its pretty unique. Small brushless motors and speed controllers have come on a hell of a long way over the past few years, however not proven in the car world yet.

That's great thank you! I live in the sticks so the roads round me aren't great like yourself, I'd like to get away with lowering the car but not break my back driving round the twisties. Where did you get them from out of interest?

What do they ride like in comparison to the stock set up? The HBS feature looks great in theory, curious how well it works in the real world.
  14. If you can get them for around £1200 to your door that's pretty impressive, I was expecting them to be quite a bit more expensive than that! Thanks for the insight. Look forward to seeing which route you go down.
  15. Ok mate, I've sent you a PM. Thanks, Matt
  16. Tough choice, the FXX with yellow highlights looks look awesome but so do the 57Getters... I want a set of Getters for my red one but I will be going for the narrower Face 1 8.5j. Where was you planning to buy your wheels from?
  17. Hi Lee, Would you sell and ship the Perrin cat back seperately? Thanks, Matt

It was a good read, you've been very selective about what you've done with the car which seems to of paid off nicely. Thanks for taking to time to give me a review! That's great, pretty much exactly what I needed to hear, looks like I will go down the Tein route. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your build, I like the reasoning behind keeping it n/a.

    My Silver Project 86

Great thread James just read it from start to finish. That engine is gonna be revvy as hell, youll have to post some videos once its all fitted! A quick question for you, seeing as you've had the Tein luxury masters on for a while now, how do you find them? Whats the ride comfort like compared to the standard set up? Does it affect the handling characteristics of the car at all? Ive shortlisted the Teins as they seem to have the closest spring rates to the stock set up and I just want to find out a bit more about them. EDIT: With regards to the crank pulley, I've heard some people just stick the car is 6th gear and get a hefty breaker bar on it? More importantly though( as its already been mentioned), is to ensure the crankshaft pulley spacer doesn't come out when you remove the pulley as its an absolute nightmare to refit apparently. see here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26386 Cheers, Matt

    What Exhaust

What about the Greddy SP Elite? very similar to the Q300 and a bit cheaper.

    Any device to Monitor Knock?

If you are genuinely that scared of knock problems then surely you should have the car mapped conservatively to counter this? What is you intention? To drive around continously watching a gauge/monitor frightened to use your car how you should do. You are not going enjoy the car this way.

    What Exhaust

You are spoilt for choice, there are tons of videos of exhaust compilations on YouTube so it might be worth a look on there to see what you like the sound of. If you can get hold of one the Perrin 2.5" resonated system seems like it would suit your needs. IMO there are best exhausts out there than Miltek.
  23. Those 57Getters are seriously nice. What spec would you get them in?

new owner .. with inevitable questions!

Welcome Dan! Like yourself I'm a newbie and I'm having a dilemma when it comes to wheels. You (we) are gonna have to compromise to a degree on either looks or driving characeristics when it comes to wheel choice. After driving a diesel golf for the past 5 years its made me realise how much I despise understeer so I will be going for a square set up. If I'm honest 225 on a 9j is perfectly fine, then again I'm an ex VW & drift guy so 225 on 9.5j-10j rims was considered pretty normal. Your gonna get mixed messages with regards to wheels as this is a drivers car.

    VW Golf R400

Can't understand why they are squeezing so much power from a 2.0L. I mean fair enough tuning a car AFTER its already been designed/released but if you doing it from the ground up why not just start with a bigger lump in the first place. Whats the advantage of it? I don't see them selling many as it will be pricey, even a half decent specced GTI is over 30K... 30K for a golf? I have a Mk4 Golf atm, genuinely great car no doubt about it, however its incredibly boring. I nearly bought a Scirocco before considering a GT86, to be fair it was nice but again just found it a bit boring, my girlfriends 3 cylinder Up! is more fun to drive.
