  1. The 0-60 times are much faster than the 0-62mph times as our second gear runs right out of puff at the wrong time. Some magazines do 0-60 and others 0-62mph so there is always a massive variation with some doing gear changes and others trying to hold out in 2nd.

The gear change costs around 0.5 of a second. Remapped cars with a higher rev limit of 7650rpm can do the 60 dash without the need for 3rd gear and most people get 6.4-6.5 I think?

There was a picture floating around somewhere of a GT86 on a Toyota stand with a 0-60 figure of 6.7 seconds stock? Will try and dig it out...

  2. It's 99 remember ;)

Joking aside, Andy the guy who fitted my kit is sending all the pictures over from the build tonight for me, so I will order them and then upload them all in one post. I will then do a full write up in a post underneath.

Thought that would be the best way to structure things :)

  3. Intake, exhaust, manifold and then remap will yield the best gains and have everything optimised. If you start adding exhaust components after a remap you will then need to map the car again to gain the full benefit of them :)

  4. Gradual boost logs will be sent to John this evening to make sure everything is running fine higher up in the rpm range.

I had confirmation that the idle and cruise log figures looked good, so I am happy with that.

I have also booked the car in to be custom mapped on Saturday on a dyno at Torque Developments International in Thurrock. Had a great chat with Sam there today.

They will be modifying the turbo map using my own Ecutek programming kit and license. I have already rang the guys at Fensport and they said everything should be fine to do it that way. Adrian has been super busy at the moment and can't tell me how long it is going to take to road map my car to his liking, so a proper tuning company and dyno was the next best solution in my eyes.

I don't want to drive the car too far on the basemap, so seeing as they are only 30-40 minutes down the road from me I thought it was the best decision.

Looking forward to it and posting the results :)

  5. I'd assume that he will be using a Euro series as the US ROMs aren't compatible outside of the US. The base maps are similar but the cars are mildly different that a C/D series tune won't work properly. But then you'd only copy across the tables you need and not a whole map.

US is C (manual) and D (Auto), UK/Euro/Aus/Japan all use G (manual) and I (Auto). He should be using ZA1JA01G or later ideally. Our 99RON is just short of what the Americans call 93 so if he's using a 91 basemap then all should be well.

JV has a mixed set of reviews, ever since he burnt someones car to the ground... He's still a competent tuner (from reliable sources), just don't catch him on a bad day.

I'l check the file when I get home, as it is on the laptop and report back. I have been relaying information back and forth to Adrian though and getting advice, as obviously having done all the work on my car beforehand, I trust him more than anyone.

Well that isn't reassuring, It was his flex fuel kit for E85 that had a leak wasn't it? Caused a fire and then the rest is history....

I have noticed he can be a bit abrupt in conversation through emails, but has been very good with his response time and info. I am probably getting the kit custom mapped by Adrian when I can afford it though as being in the UK it is the easiest solution.

  6. Yeah I only use Shell V Power wherein possible. I have a Shell garage 2 minutes down the road from me, so I would be stupid not to!

Never trusted Tesco fuel to be honest, and BP 97 is horrible and way too expensive for what it is. In my area it is more expensive than V Power?!?!

  7. Is he tweaking a UK map or an American map and is there that much of a difference?

I mentioned about the fuel quality I will be using (98 RON) and the difference between the US (C ROM) and European (D ROM) Ecutek formats, and John said not to worry about it and he had it all covered so I am guessing he has modified it to be perfectly fine in UK cars.

He's done a great job so far with me and the slight issue I had on the first map he rectified right away :)

  8. your a star James many thanks.

Hows the turbo; build going on?

No problem, it will fit in an envelope so I might just stamp it and send it in the post that way? Will easily fit through your letter box :)

RE turbo kit. Turbo is all plumbed in and running. A revised basemap was sent over from John V after getting a fault code on the first map. Uploaded it and all appears fine for the moment with no faults.

Sent over some idle and cruise logs for him to check first before I get the all clear to drive normally again, and then it will be a case of saving a few pennies to pay for some proper custom mapping to be done by either him or Adrian :)

  9. It's a JV tune??

There are ways to speed up the accelerator dead spot, just stamp on the pedal 5-10 times before you fire it up. If you're still getting "lag" it's just that the fuel trims are a bit high.

Sure is! Chris Riggs from Speed By Design recommended him. He has a lot of experience with the SBD turbo kits and offers custom mapping for them so thought it was a no brainer to work with him to get a good basemap on the car.

I did slam on the pedal 2-3 times before start up as I knew about the dead spot before, but I guess a few more are needed to totally sort it out ;)

Apart from that though, everything appears to be running fine, and I am just waiting on his email today to confirm the idle and cruise logs that I sent are spot on, or if the map needs a bit more tweaking.

    We will see :)

  10. Just a quick update..

After much swearing over the weekend, and a P0107 fault code, I went out at 10.30pm last night, uploaded a revised basemap that was sent over by John Visconti, and the car ran fine with no problems.

He requested a log from me showing the idle and cruise figures, so after I let the car run for 5 minutes, I took it for a short 5-10 minute drive logging the car stationary and when cruising and sent it over to him last night.

The ECU was still learning the new map on the drive so the idle and throttle application was a bit choppy to begin with, but by the end the car was pretty spot on.

Just waiting to get his approval today that the figures looked good and I am free to drive normally for the rest of the week. I will also do some more aggressive driving on boost, which will probably mean some WOT logs that need to be sent over to John later on in the week, just to make sure the car is behaving itself :)

A full write up and pictures will be updated later on, I didn't have a chance over the weekend as I was too busy mapping and sorting out issues!
