Yeah with a decat UEL and full exhaust system I used to idle at 95-98 db's. If you have already got the stock catted front pipe, then a resonated catback would probably quiet it down enough drone wise. Everyone's perception of bearable is different though and it would be a faff to swap catbacks over.

Cheers for updating Rob, be lovely to see everyone again.

Aren't JRM the guys who run the Nissan GT3 program?

Nick has given me the heads up about this, I will trundle down after work in mine and meet up with you all.

Love the Porsche Blue colour.... Full titanium exhaust system did I read? That's what probably gives it it's slightly "hollow" unique sound.

Welcome to the club fella

Cheers Nicebiscuit.
I haven't had an Issues to be honest James, clearance is fine and there has been no rubbing what so ever, it must be the AVO set up I guess. What size exhaust are you currently running, 2.5"?
I've just been to see Mike at Tuning Developments in Warrington (apologies Richard, I didn't have time to pop onto yourselves), Mike has confirmed that the grinding noise is just like you said, extra transmission noise due to the upgraded clutch and flywheel. PHEWWW. I'm a bit over cautions at times due to previous mechanical disasters I've experienced with other cars in the past.. Better to be safe than sorry though I guess.
Mike mentioned that they are having an open day on November the 1st, so will be going along to that and getting car on the dyno, will be interesting to see what it is currently running at the moment. You coming? Also went out in his turbo'd GT86, very nice, it went like excrement off a shovel!! And looks beautiful.
Yeah mine was custom made for an N/A manifold, so it is not ideal when it comes to the different position of the downpipe, whereas obviously the AVO kit is designed for a turbo kit from the ground up. Yeah mine is a 2.5" currently, I did speak about upgrading to a 3" but apparently on our turbo setups, 2.5" is good for flow up to 400hp.. saves me some money
Yeah I did think it would be that mate, it does take some time to get used to.. do you notice it most on the down shifts when the revs start to fall? I like it, gives you that race car like feeling haha!
Yes I will be coming so it will be good to have a catch up and have a nose around your car bud. Not sure if I will get her on the dyno but I will be buying a few bits like a dedicated turbo blanket and maybe some accessories whilst I am there.
Looking forward to it.

I'll nab a turbo blanket off you too whilst I am there if you have any, so I can finally get rid of that useless heat shield.

The joy of having to rely on Shell... You have to plan every journey around their filling stations!

I never could hear the radio when I was catless so I didn't give a toss about the missing controls on the steering wheel.... Dan don't lie and pretend you listen to music any more, that fart cannon drowns out everything haha!

As long as I am free I am definitely up for coming along guys!
Car hasn't been on a long journey for a while and it would be a good chance to stretch it's legs a bit
-
I never really found it an issue to begin with. But now with the charger 6th gear overtakes are just effortless - I'm sure you've got the same with the turbo setup now
You don't need to go through the OBD port like GringoSteve is doing, although I'm sure it's an option
It's something to do with locking the car in some sort of sequence...let me have a search
Yeah I am building boost from 2900rpm, so because we sit at around 3k RPM at 70 in 6th, the torque is there ready to go whenever I start accelerating.
Cheers for digging that old chestnut up though mate, I'll give it a go when I get home and see if both doors now unlock afterwards. Although I have to say, listening to the missus moan outside because I refuse to unlock the passenger door when I get in doesn't get old haha.
-
Meant Keith Nick... My mind is failing me this morning
Amended to save the embarrassment haha!
-
Why is having 6th a long ratio a bad thing? Means you still get decent MPG when cruising on the motorway because you're not sitting at 5k+ revs!
You can program the car to unlock both doors at the same time btw. I can't remember what the method is but if you search I'm sure you'll find it
It's generally the spacing of 5th to 6th when I think about it Jordan. If 5th gear was made a slightly bit taller, then 6th would not bog down the engine so much. It's not so much a problem now for me, but when I was running N/A 6th just took you right out of the torque band and the car just died. I cannot complain about the MPG bonus though
I see, maybe GringoSteve might know how to do it? I know he was messing around a bit with the car controls.
-
How long the final ratio (6th) is, the fact you have to manually unlock the passenger side door on the switch instead of unlocking both doors at the same time. How thin the paint is and how easily it chips. How narrow the depth of the boot is, the height is terrible even if the overall size is good.
Rear brake light in the rear window is also terrible. Apart from that I am a happy camper

V Power everytime. Your ECU will cut back big time on 95 to avoid knock and you will lose a few horses in the process. On N/A it is always preferred.
Funnily enough, my car was turbo mapped on V Power. I recently had to use Tesco 99 as my regular Shell garage was out of V Power. The next 7 days I drove the car, I could feel the difference in the quality and the car certainly run a tiny bit lumpy.
We know Tesco boost their octane rating with their 99 by using a massive amount of Ethanol, and it certainly shows when driving compared with V Power. Even though it is the same octane rating, the quality is night and day.

280hp?! You are pushing a lot more than that Keith surely?!
I will be racing back from Warner Bro's studios as fast as I can on the Sunday. My MPG is going to suffer big time on the M25 but I really want to get back in time to meet up with everyone. It takes an hour according to Google Maps, I am sure we can knock a few minutes off that
I am also happy to give rides in my SBD turbo 86 as long as I get back before everyone naffs off.
Ztox reacted to this -
My peak power now I am turbo is 7150rpm. For N/A I think intake work and valvetrain mods will need to be made to get it making power as the RPM increases closer to 8k.
7K generally seems to be the sweet spot though with a stock engine.

Glad to see you have finally got a proper build thread mate.
One thing I did forget to ask you the other day on Facebook, do you have any issues with clearance with the 3 inch overpipe around the subframe area? When GBH Motorsport recently sorted out my exhaust system and stopped it rubbing, they said a 3" would be a real horrible fit in terms of space, do you have any rubbing issues?
The other thing was in regards to the grinding noise you are having from the tranny... Have you upgraded the clutch at all to a heavy duty unit? All I am saying is that a lot of the heavy duty clutches have quite a bit of chatter and when you are cruising down the RPM range (between 2-3k) you will get a lot of tranny noise. My big ACT clutch chatters ALOT, and at low speed will make a racket, so it could be that?
If you haven't done that, then ignore it and it might be a small issue that you need looking at
Just thought I'd throw that out there given my personal experience.
-
I see! Well chuck me a message on FB any time and I'll be more than happy to meet up with you bud. You are only down the road after all!
She is running the base 7 psi at the moment and with a custom map we hit 265hp at the wheels and 210lbs ft.. This was quite conservative as I wanted to maintain maximum reliability.
Loads of headroom still though, just depends on how deep your pockets are!
-
Hopefully they are interchangeable, be an added route for individuality, even though there are so many options already out there for the car to create personality
-
Need to get my brownie points first in the morning before dragging her out to a meet on her birthday afternoon haha!
-
It is Becky's birthday this day Rob (totally forgot) and we are at Warner Bro's studios in the morning, how long are you planning on staying at the pub? The tour is at 11.30am but we will obviously be done fairly soon. On my drive back I can come and meet you all?? As long as you are all still there of course!

Cheers dude, had a lot of advice from the FB thread so just ready to pull the trigger now
2013 Toyota GT86 Turbo 43k Miles For Sale

After building and enjoying this car for over 2 years, I never thought I would see it again. Having part exchanged it 2 years previous, it has found it's way back to the dealership I now work at. Given the happy memories I have had with the Drivers Club, I thought I would advertise the car here and give the opportunity to pass the car on to a member that I know will love it just as much as I did.
It is a 2013 model, cloth interior with parking sensors, navigation and cruise control. It has covered 43,000 miles. The car is an ex demo with 3 owners in total (2 private including me and the original was Toyota themselves). I bought the car back in 2014 as a totally standard example and then spent the following 9 months enjoying it in standard form. For the next 18 months or so I went about modifying it tastefully and that is how it sits today. The previous owner after me has simply used it as a commuting car and did not modify it further.
The service history is as follows:
It is now due another service which will be carried out with Millers Nanodrive once again and matching Blitz oil filter along with pollen and cabin filters. It will also have a fresh 12 months MOT before it leaves our ownership.
Modifications are as follows:
The car was mapped at TDI in Thurrock where it made 263.5hp at the hubs at just over 7psi. I paid special attention to how the car was mapped to avoid rod bending low down torque which kills these FA20 engines as everyone knows. Peak torque comes in at 4780rpm and is 209.9 lbs ft. Peak power is at 7170rpm. The car will also come with the full Ecutek kit and dongle which I purchased off Fensport, as well as an ELM wifi dongle which can be used to measure oil temps, boost pressure etc with apps like DashCommand etc.
I still have all the original manuals, will come with 2 keys, and all the invoices from all the work I had carried out. My original build thread from the car is here:
The car is priced at £15,695 but we are open to sensible offers. Any questions feel free to fire away and I will now post all the pictures below for everyone to look at!
