    Disks and pads.

I picked up a pair of TORA Vented 299MM front and TORA 290mm vented rear and by simply buying some GTS/BRZ attach brackets that the caliper slides on and using DBA RDA extreme pads I got my temps down by 100C on decelerating run down. No invasion of calipers is required just bolt on. Costing PAIR TORA $89 Front AUD$ 88$ rear Pads extreme 89$ set Time and cost of caliper attach brackets from US $100 All done under $500AUD and stops on a dime time after time REAR VENTED 290mm FRONT 299MM vented with oem calipers and GTS attach sliding bracket. LINK to how it is done MRT watch what this says https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Q9gS4vtCUQ

  3. Hi all from the colonies. They have a saying down under if you over drive your lights What is stopping you? Well if you are unlucky at 100 plus you hit one of these with your plastic and aluminium front GAME OVER MAN! Being a night driver it became obvious that the GT86 lights as delivered may comply with ADR rules were woefully inadequate. GT86 has no attach points per se. On the hoist using the head not the heart the HELLA NARVA COMET 6 inch fits. Drill one hole use one dowell so you don't crush the valance, use nylock nut and wire via relays to the alternator line and it all fits. Light is parallel to the road but illuminates flanks of the wildlife and some scatter occurs. Next stop is HID upgrade to the Comet lights total cost so far $79 upgrade will be the same. The driving lights are balanced don't look out of place and don't block airflow. The small lights in pic are 4 led DRL's in place of the ten watt Toyota OEM. H11 High beams are 100 watt inserts. Comets have H3 100 watts Total light output 400 watts 30 amps can be reduced going HID once I work out where to stow the ballasts. I can see them now before they hit me 80-100km/h any faster how is your insurance?
  4. I am a late comer to GT86 ownership and as such many of the teething troubles and discussions are long gone as are some of of the experts and the owners. My questions are simple as are my comments. Oils! Extreme confusion re right engine oil, just go into auto store and type in to the oil advice. zero w 20 suggested, by Toyota, 5w by Subie and most oil guys. mobil one? diff oil? must have friction component. GLS5 gearbox api spec? Fuel. 98 ron ok. avgas no too dry. 10/94 ethanol ok according to Toyota. 95 ron?. Brake fluid as supplied useful for normal driving. pretty poor in mountains on winding roads. GT brakes underdone bias fair. can be rectified by fitting brz attach brackets brz gts rotors front 299 up from 277 and rear vented same diameter but more rotating metal so runs cooler at 18 mm vented instead if 10 mm solids, and retaining gt calipers throws bias back to the front by a few % dba pads or hardie ferodo metals. see mtc racing utube video.

    Classic newbie

Bought a 2012 Australian delivered zn6 that had been stored and rarely driven in a country town. Total km at delivery 4300 km or 700 per year 14 km per week shopping or communter Thats not many miles and first casualty was the battery. As classic owner of a 1974 Corona GT twin cam A 1967 Corona 1600s 4R A 1989 Alltrack ST185r GT4 AWD This is my next keeper for future gens. Aim not to molest but to do intelligent upgrades first of which were the GTS brake rotors 299MM front and 290+ rear vented replacing the underdone 277MM font and 289 rear solids. By watching an MTC video that explained the exact differences between the GT and GTS brakes the upgrade was obvious and essential. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Q9gS4vtCUQ Makes sense when you watch it end to end and it means you can upgrade brakes without interfering with hydraulics.. I read all the 86 forums ww, see all the trials and trivilations and wonder why folks molest these cars. 580/20000 for sale down under bit if a worry. 10 in breaker yards, 16 inch wheels for sale at $100 each heaps of upgrades to 17,18,19 inch wheels and skinny tyres. hope prices dont go down the tube like the gt4 and suzuki gti and skylines fast and furious! GTS brake upgrade GT86 none invasive. TORA ROTORS 290/299 $90 per pair, RDA Extreme Pads $170 on slotted dimpled rotors total cost $350 AU$ Wheels JDM enkei and Potenza RE off my GT4 for testing. Temp drop on rear 100C over same test and 2km coast to stop front 450C tests as per RDA advisory to bed in pads.
