  1. I have some spare intake parts I've bought as I'm replacing my aftermarket intake (came with car, also a Blanco - snap!) - the throttle body to intake box pipe, sound generator and a couple of ancillary pipes. Let me know if you're interested and I can take some photos. If you know anyone with a spare airbox front (the bit the filter fits into) then that's the last bit I need!

  2. Was cruising along in blissful ignorance (listening to my fave DDR music) when I realised a fellow white GT86 was matching my speed (or lack of it lol) alongside me, with the Initial D 'tofu' side decals down the side and a little anime character on the passenger window. I think the number plate started RX62 and had kouki lights. I didn't see the driver but if you're out there and see this, I didn't miss you!

If it has been remapped you can do it when parked up and just turn the engine on. In neutral let the car idle then pull the cruise control stork for 2-3 seconds. If its been remapped the rev counter will move to 1k, 2k, 3k or 4k to indicate which map its in (most remaps have 4 settings). With the engine still on and car in neutral, pushing the cruise control stork up or down should see the rev counter needle move. Pulling the stork again will select that map.

    Hope that helps.

That's a handy tip for anyone looking at or having bought a car - thanks! I've given this a try but no result, so I'm guessing it hasn't been mapped. The only other obvious mod is a P3 vent gauge. The intake sounds nice and raspy on full throttle but I wonder if not having the resonator is making it slightly less responsive - or if the infamous torque dip is to blame.

  4. On my previous car (Suzuki Swift Sport) I had the windscreen replaced on insurance. I'm sure I arranged it directly via Autoglass and they automatically cross-reference your insurance, charge you the necessary excess etc. Didn't affect my no claims though you're best checking your policy. Unfortunately I've also got a chip within a month of getting my car, so I'll have to do this too!

  5. Thanks everyone for your feedback, I had a closer look at the silicone coupling and it says Mishimoto on it. I'm not sure about a remap, I have pulled the cruise control stalk whilst driving but didn't notice any change. Should I have tried this with the ignition on/engine off or ignition off?

  6. I noticed when I bought my car recently that it had an aftermarket intake fitted. I've been trying to find out but there isn't anything obvious on it that I can identify it with. Looking at products online it might be a Mishimoto intake?

I'd also appreciate any thoughts on whether or not I should put it back to stock. I'd need to buy an intake as the car didn't come with the original.

  7. Hi all - I've been lurking on here for a couple of weeks. I picked up my Blanco recently and wanted to make sure everything was fine with it first!

I've owned Suzukis (Ignis Sport, 56 reg Swift Sport) and a mark 1 MX-5 in the past. For years I was fairly indecisive about what I wanted for my next car - I'd considered Honda, then MX-5, then finally the GT86 as they came down in price. My Swift Sport was beginning to get a bit tatty (though I still miss it!) and the right car turned up so I made the plunge into GT86 ownership!

I'm keenly into Japanese culture and so for me the GT86 feels like a homage to so many things; Japan's history of iconic sports cars, tuner culture, touge, drift, Initial D etc. I'm really pleased with the car so far, it's everything I thought it would be!

I've had to change the battery (replaced with a Bosch 65A) and from a bad experience with my Suzuki I've made sure to get a spacesaver spare wheel in there! There appears to be a couple of mods by previous owners; a P3 vent gauge which I unplugged when I had problems with the previous battery, an unknown air intake (I need to get a photo on here in case anyone can identify it) and oddly red LEDs in the interior/vanity lights.

I'm planning on getting a reversing camera installed, getting a stock air intake (with aftermarket panel filter), sound generator delete and maybe swap out some lighting for LEDs. Other than that I think it's a great car as it is and will be keeping it fairly stock.

Unfortunately I don't have any service history so I'm hoping it's all good. It looks like it's been well cared for and the Mot history looks fine. I don't have the manual and I don't have a PIN number for the alarm - should I be worried about that?

I'd better finish up my ramble; I look forward to being a member here!
