dude I've drove brand new 911 turbo s, Caymen S, a 600bhp M3, a M4, a RS6, m sport 235i, GTR black edition....all of them felt boring to drive because the car does all the work. Most of them (especially the BMW ) felt like sitting in a lounge watching TV. They are so efficient it doesn't feel like driving at all compared to a or manual/mechanical car. They all felt similar to my old mans 4.5l v8 range rover, but with less roll. Before my gt86, my daily drive was between a 450 bhp Evo 5 and a toyota celica. Out of all the cars I've had access to the most fun to drive honestly have been my brothers 1.3i original mini, the evo 5, GT86, 750 bhp R33 skyline and the wifes NB Mx5. All of these cars felt more like you where connected to the car. You can feel everything and you are....mostly...in control of everything. Every fancy fast auto box car I've drove felt like the car did 90% of the work, specially with traction control, auto adjusting suspension and AWD systems. True a lot of these dead/ boring feel may be due to other electronic systems in the car like those previously mentioned, but with auto boxes its another aspect of control you remove from yourself and let the car do for you. Anyone who says that all the new tech doesn't takes away from the actual driving experience and feel of a car, simply hasn't actually experienced a good manual car. Your claim about serious drives further down this thread is true. Serious drivers are about lap times and as I originally stated, they are far more efficient and better because no one can change gear faster than the most recent boxes. Top hyper cars are all about the badge, big numbers and lap times. Nothing about fun or the feel of driving. Also the supra may end up with a manual eventually since they are adding manual boxes as a option on the next M4 and Z4 models. Since the supra is a reskined Z4 its possible 😮

Sad but true. No matter how much faster flappy paddle semi autos change gear it still seems to drain the fun from the car. I hope the next gen doesn't have it (which it may not because they rarely are on cars that are sub 30k) but I wouldn't be mad if it did since they are , mechanically and economically better. After driving a Porsche carrea S, BMW m4 and BMW m235i i can say its the most bored I've felt with such power and 0-60 times. As for turbos ect, since Subaru has announced the next Impreza will be using a FA24 turbo'd, with US modders putting standard WRX impreza turbo on the current Subaru that uses the FA24 and it easily pulling 500 bhp, I'm starting to think the next 86 will either be the FA24 NA or stick with the FA20d and have a small turbo.

Looks awesome what's the width and ET? Any scrubbing? I looked into XXR and could only find 18x9-9.5 which everyone keeps telling me you need to roll the arches to fit (which i am entirely 100% sure i would F up) unless you have major camber but your's look great :O!

Pretty sure legally they cant stop you from taking your own property, items or the car. Even if it failed on a dangerous defect, for the stealership cost of that , i'd rather of called a recovery company to remove it from the garage and go somewhere more honest and willing to work with you, the customer. Should of threatened to get the police involved and report it upwards to toyota. If you kick up enough fuss bothering Toyota's complaints department, asking for their higher ups etc, you should eventually get somewhere. End of the day they have a reputation to up hold and a bad rep could cost more than one angry customers issues.

Ouch 3 cats has got to be a killer. You brought up a good point so I looked into it a little and apparently a lot of companies are moving from superchargers over to small turbos because of efficiency, since a supercharger takes power from the engine to create more (increases strain, power drain and fuel usage) which is fine on bigger engines like V6 or higher, however, turbos use a waste bi product to create more power re-purposing it. Obviously turbo lag is a thing, even with twin turbos set at different RPM ranges since it has a minimum gas flow to turn quick enough, buutttt some clever people are creating electric motor turbos (currently used in F1) where a electric motor turns the turbine while the engine isn't rev'ing enough to turn it with emissions basically removing actual turbo lag. Would be hyped to see this sort of thing used in the next 86 😮

Not really, because as soon as the GR86 releases gt86 prices will likely drop. So if the GR is complete garbage then just pick up a cheaper GT. Luckily they arn't too common on the drift scene so drift tax isnt a thing yet...yet.

Always emissions. Not really sure why toyota strangled the power out with 2 cats, when there are plenty of fast more powerful cars with just as low emissions without putting such a dent in performance. As you said the upgrade from the likes of TD's N/a tune and replacing the manifold would make a world of difference to a lot of potential drivers. One of my friends has had every jap car under the sun with a minimum of 500+bhp , Rx7, supra, Every model of skyline cept the R34 and his daily drive is a R33 with 680 bhp and after driving my stock 86 he was hyped and is now looking for a cheap mid mileage one as a weekend run around, so it goes to show they are doing something right with the car and power doesn't =fun. I'm ok with my stock power for now but my end goal is to make sure no standard ST focus or VXR corsa could gap me, so anywhere in the 300-360 range would be enough. Would be nice if the future models could at least compete with all these common hatchbacks that just have turbos dragging the life out of them. Side note, hows your car feel at 300 bhp? If i remember right its supercharged right, do you have any issues putting power down and does it still feel like the same car to drive but just a lot quicker? 😁

I think a lot of people are put of subaru engines because of the whole 'chocolate pistons' reputations scoobys have. Most people don't realise these claims come from people who buy a bog standard impreza, put up the turbo boost pressure and red line it from cold. Also, this counts for both the supra and GT86's engines design, but Toyota tend to have incredibly high quality standards, knocking back the BMW engine's design over washers and minor components, and the FA20 for subarus poor fuel injection. I agree with you in that I hope the flat four stays, I just hope they work on either adding a turbo or at least flattening out torque dip issues. The car as it stands now has everything right but is just a lil lacking in the power department. It's a car in the price range of £24-32K I don't expect there to be any 3.0 litre bmw engines or pushing numbers over 200-250 bhp.

aww man the effort put into this REALLY pays off. Looks awesome! I was never too sure about the V2 Rocket bunny (all pics i see are either photo-shopped to death or have stupid 'stance' wheels at crazy camber angles) but damn this changes my mind for sure. Good work ^^ cant wait to see more!

Yeah I don't think I've heard a single good thing about the new supra.....like sure its a good car but its not a great one. I'm surprised at the amount of BMW parts and stamps all over the final product. It's disheartening when a 50K+ sports car gets reviewed as 'boring, very tame/dead feeling' and a lot of reviewers say the GT86 was more fun to drive. I just hope that Toyota listen to the fan base and current 86 owners and make the GR86 a little more nippy without that torque dip.

Pretty sure the porche 911 GT2 RS, 2nd fastest production car round the Nürburgring uses a boxer, or 'flat 6' as porsche call it, engine. Just because a engine is more common or popular doesn't mean its better.

So I only got one set of keys with my GT86 and for obvious reasons would like a back up set....however~ I am yet to find anything outside of the stealership that isn't around £500+ for a spare set. Local car replacement key shop chain (i forgot the name) wont touch it and will only make the ignition/door key, not the electric sides which given its a push to start, is 100% useless. I get its not exactly a house key that can be cut but surely somewhere does replacement keys that doesn't require me to sacrifice my first born's soul? Any ideas?

£580 they gave me over the phone, they said it could differ depending on which dealership I actually decide to use (I'm near 3)

I'm the second owner of this car (2018 gt86) and everyone who gets in keeps asking why do I have another aerial?? There's a little shark fin antenna on the roof and the radio from what i can tell is totally standard, no sat nav though :(, so I have no idea what this is for. From what I've seen of the older models this isn't usually there? Any ideas or is this some extra the original owner has installed?

Out of curiosity is your interior stitching white or red, and is the passenger side dash panel like some weird plastic carbonfibre pattern? All the interiors i see that aren't heavily modified seem to be the 2013-2016 model and have red stitching and just a black dash panel. I want to get a arm rest in the centre like your one but all the ones i see for sale are red stitched...

i had a 2003 1.0 litre vauxhall coarsa. saying it was slow was a understatement. the engine exploded twice, once at 30k miles due to some cheap Chinese made pressed part that (as someone who works in steel fabrication/production) honestly costs less than 2p to make. 1 weak later the twig like anorexic pistons where introduced to the block walls again because yet another thin steel pressed part snapped on the connection to the drive shaft and exploded the engine ( how i don't know) The part itself cost £3 to replace....the rest of the engine was £460. I'd say it was a cheap car made of cheap crap, but at the time this was a mid priced hatch back...way over priced considering the dealer ship told me i was lucky to get 30k out of the engine 🙄. But still ...worst car I've ever drove wasn't this...it was a Toyota aygo i got as a 'equivalent value replacement courtesy car' for a v6 crossfire . The car felt like it was missing everything a modern car should have...like a engine, electric windows and suspension. As a 6ft 3" guy i can say these cars are not designed for averaged sized humans, let alone tall blokes. I had more leg room in my brothers classic 1.3i Mini. The entire drive feel of the aygo felt like a death trip, being unable to pull out onto a 30 mph road with a 100 metre gap between cars, the role on the car, how tinny it all felt it was awful. Oh and it had no AC in mid summer to top it off.

I'm on a 67 plate but a early 2018 model, can confirm the speedo cowling is leather, but mine has white stitching. I assume the stitching is the same colour as the rest of the car since all of mine is white, which makes getting the arm rest a pain since all the older ones have red stitching >.> Hope that helps answer your question. Seen a few people on forums complaining it makes the car handle odd but never heard anything of the sort from my friends who have staggered wheel sizes on their GTR/ RX7.

Ahhh ok thanks that could be it. The car was a CAT S write off at 5K miles so they didn't have it long, only damaged the wrong wing and door tho but got it all reapired so they might of just striped it all back out and replaced back to standard. I don't really know much when it comes to electrics in cars to be honest so its nice to have it confirmed. Not sure if I want to risk removing it though because I'm unsure if it will affect the standard set up now? I'm guessing it shouldn't but really i should play it safe and get it checked out by someone who knows what they are doing.

So some time in October I got my hands on a Cat S 2018 model fully repaired and only 5K on the clock. Initially this was going to be my work car but its too fun to remain stock and too pretty to have those skinny pram wheels on it! I aim to eventually take it on small track days, but nothing serious, it still needs to be my daily drive without shaking me to death like my old 200sx. So i got a few basic questions: While on stock camber/suspension, what is the max size wheel that fits without rubbing? I'm thinking about some Work emotion ZR10 18x8.5 ET32. I am aware of the 'wheel it fit' FT86 calculator but I'd rather hear from people with experience than trust something in theory. What are the best places to start modding? Is there anything in particular that makes quite a noticeable difference or recommendations on what is a good start? Has anyone failed the MOT on emissions if they removed the manifold cat and had a singular high flow cat? I noticed a lot of people talking about removing the torque dip by removing the manifold cat however no one ever mentions if they can still pass MOT's 😆 Is here anything thing to look out pr listen for given its a boxer engine? Never owned a subaru or car which had one before. Dreading changing the spark plugs or the bill to get someone else to. Thanks in advance ^^

couple laps on anglesea track or oulton park, not like solid hard driving for hours straight. They are pretty small tracks compaired to others. As for the aggresive poke, I dont mind it a little, from what i've been told as long as the tread doesnt stick out of the arch there wont be any issues with the law. Eventually when i get round to coilovers im hoping the naural camber would tuck it in a little bit better, but i dont want to be one of those huge camber angle people that have 10" wide wheels with only 2 inches making contact with the road... I have seen alot of people saying they have like 18 x 9 et 35ish and have no issues and didnt need to roll the arches but i really cant see how thats possible :/

Yeah I was looking into going down the turbo route once I had sorted out the wheels, since at the mo its got really cheap tires on the rear (no idea why when the fronts seem pretty decent) and it already cant really put power down without slipping. I figured I would wait till I can get someone like fensport to do their avo stage 2 so i could skip buying a manifold twice. Nice to know doing that wont make my car not legal on the road Honestly this was the first thing I noticed about the car. I wasn't sure if it was the speakers or the actual audio unit. In my gen 7 celica the max vol before distorting was super quite, but changing the actual radio itself seemed to fix it and the speakers where pretty decent. I'll check out this sounds well worth the investment!
