    Sorry he was replying to someone who asked how hard the coils were to replace so assumed he was talking about them. I'll give him a ring and see what he says :)

    Tbf the lad there has been brilliant since I've had my 86. He's got me £400 off my 5th and 6th services combined. Recommending I get my brakes done elsewhere because of the price they charge (probably could get in trouble for telling me that) and customer service generally has been brilliant. He's promised to do a deal so hopefully he knocks quite a bit off the labour .. we'll see :)

     

    Or are they in an easier place to access than the spark plugs? :unsure::lol: If so I might give him a call back!

I watched Gary change my coil pack last time it failed at a sprint. He did it in 15 minutes and the engine was hot! Replacing OEM pads and discs is a little under £500 fitted from your dealer. 

    It sounds like wherever you are going are hugely taking the piss to be frank.

    It's always the coil pack, pretty much never the plugs. If you have an OBD reader plug it in and I'll bet it will say it's a coil pack. It doesn't usually cause a misfire though. I've had all four replaced  and it was only the last one which went at 110K that totally failed so it was running on three cylinders. All the other ones I didn't notice any difference save for the EML coming on. 

    £320 I've been quoted to replace the coil pack because of the dropping of the engine to get to them... Although he said he'd do me a "deal" so hopefully get some money off.

    Also been told my brakes and pads are low which will cost about £700. What alternatives are there to these, any recommendations? Not looking to spend a bomb!

I would say that given that the only real thing that seems to consistently go wrong is the coil packs, there is generally very little else that breaks. If you have a remap as well, you are voiding the warraty on the engine internals. 

    I looked at the extended warranty and was going to go for it, but I had done 100K miles, which they will not cover on extended warranty, so I had no options there. So far I've had my final coil pack replaced. I'm nearly at 120K miles now. 

    Mine's only at about 50,000 but yeah I think i'll just set aside the money I would be paying into the warranty and get the coil pack replaced once the CEL comes on again. Thanks for the help! Is it ever the spark plugs which are the issue, I have my 60,000 service next year where I know they get changed.. Or is it usually always the coil packs which cause the problems with misfires?

    Toyota did me an awesome service plan which included the 50,000 mile and 60,000 mile service for £400!! and I've been paying monthly. Worth checking to see if your Toyota offer a similar service plan for your next two.

But I'd check that as it's the most common thing to fail. 

    Be aware that you cannot have an extended warranty over 100K miles so if you are anywhere near that it won't be worth doing.

    This was the response from Toyota when asking if the Manifold, exhaust and remap would affect the warranty...”And yes unfortunately it would as the remap would change the set up, firing time and load on the engine at any given time. So if you were to install this it would be pointless doing the warranty. The exhaust would cause different degrees of exhaust backpressure, too.”

    🤔🤔 Do you still think it’s worth going for the extendedtwo year warranty? I know they try to get out of paying for anything! 🙄

     


  8. I've recently had the EML come on twice after redlining in 3rd. The first time I took it to a Toyota dealer who read the code and said the engine had misfired.

    Is it worth buying the warranty for around £400 and claiming it on there? Does anyone know the cost of replacing coil packs?

    I'm looking at getting the TD NA kit after this is sorted, so the warranty would be useless once I get the new manifold, exhaust and remap?

    That's interesting, everyone seems to rave about the difference it makes. Is that with the Whiteline positive shift bush in too?

    I personally found the smaller resonator to be loud - not raspy, just loud across the frequency range and a little droney in the car at speed.  The larger resonator is just fine with me - can still be loud when giving it serious welly in a narrow street, but otherwise well behaved and there is no drone on the motorway.  The bass note at idle makes it sound like a serious car.

    The torque is very noticeably better than stock, it gives the car so much more flexibility.  Acceleration and willingness to rev at the top end is also much better.  Overtaking in 6th in the stock car is almost impossible, now it's quite possible and eliminates the need to drop to 5th on some occasions.

    Brilliant can't wait to get it all fitted, all sounds great! Have you got the MTEC shifters too?

    Thanks! I don't mind it a little loud, I just don't want it raspy. Without the bigger resonator does it still have a good sound to it?

    Also with the NA kit, I know it eliminates the torque curve and you can feel the difference lower down the rev range. Can you also feel the increase in HP higher up or is it not very noticeable?


  12. I say new, I’ve had it almost a year now but love it just as much as the day I picked it up! 

    Only recently started to change things. Got the smoked valentis and spent the weekend plastidipping the wheels and front lip (so much fun!) . Looking at getting the windows tinted & roof wrapped shortly. Got some alcantara on order to wrap the dash.

    And hopefully get the TD NA kit and Resonated exhaust before the end of the year.

    Any other mods (fairly cheap) you guys would recommend?
